Max lvl 20
horohoro08
i think Arean.NET should make the max lvl higher, AT LEAST 50. kuz i think reaching lvl 20 is just way too easy, especially theres the ascension mission, bam! u hit lvl 20 automatically, then after that theres almost no point of "training" anymore. they should raise the max lvl capt and people can train more, and there will be more to play for. also, max lvl 20 turns alot of buyers down, i hav a few friends who wanted to play the game but after hearing that max lvl is 20 they just didnt feel like buy the game anymore, and i believe that would happen to many other buyers too

Guild Wars, in contrast, is based around your skill as a player. Our maximum level is twenty and you hit that very quickly, after about 20-30 hours of play. ,We call that 'The Point of Ascension'. Almost all of the content in the game and in the future Chapters is only available to Ascended characters, which means we don't have to worry about providing different levels of content. All the good stuff will be available to everyone. It's not our intent to force people onto the levelling up treadmill, so the level cap in Guild Wars is almost meaningless.

Y'know, maybe they should make it so every time you get a new skill point after level 20, your "level" will go up. But aside from the number above your head, and the skill points everyone gets, it does absolutely nothing. That should sate some peoples quest to be better than everyone else.
horohoro08
they should at least make it so that when u "level up" after lvl 20, u gain at least some attribute points, kuz from the very start, u hardly ever use ur skill points, by the time u get to ascension, u'd have about 20 skill points anyways, and at most u prolly want about 16 skills, 8 for pve and 8 for pvp, and then the skill points u get after that is just useless. so maybe not ur level going up but the amount of attribute points can go up
Infinite Sadness
i like arran's idea. feeds the ego but keeps it the game the same.
Pevil Lihatuh
er... the point of having the cap at 20 IS that its easy. They WANT everyone to reach it very quickly after starting to play, because that way everyone is level. You collect skills in this game, not levels.
However I agree, if people are gonna keep whining about a number (and dont get me wrong, i LOVE levelling in other games) then arran's idea is about the best and only way to do it.
Course if you really wanna show off, go PvP and get a high fame and rank

Arran's idea is good.........it just keeps the game interesting for hardcore gamers and at least you would have something to show for your efforts
Reflex Dragonfire
i think its a good idea from anet, coz there are a lot of people who cant spend 10 hrs a day to level up and this way they will stand a change in pvp.
Aranarth
Reaching level 20 doesn't mean you "beat" Guild Wars. Think of it as finishing the tutorial and being allowed to move on to the real game. If you are only interested in the PvE content, though, you will probably not find enough content to keep you busy for more than a month.
The game is called Guild Wars, you know? Please don't insist on the same old MMOG mindset. Allow something new a chance to get your attention.

you can already sorta see how much better you are. Just hover over the skill points and you will see how many you have earned so far. considering there is a finite amount to be earned from quests you can quickly deduce how many times you have lvled since 20 if you really care.
I don't care, so don't ask me how many skill points you can get from missons and jsut figure it out yourself

1 to get powerful enough to go and gank someone just for the fun of it (the way they were ganked)
2 an ego trip to have something, anything in their lives to point to and say *i am better than you and i have the levels to PROVE it*
Gs-Cyan Bloodbane
yeah they can't handle the idea they actually have to develop skill to play instead of just bulling thier way thru areas by sheer force cuase they are lvl 50 and the area is for lvl 20s

Ya this game died for me once I hit lvl 20. 1.5 weeks of play and I was done. I have no desire to PvP as frankly the PvP aspect of the game is just VERY uninteresting. I never saw the luster in beating some1 just to gloat. The PvE part of this game is minescule at best. The only reason to PvE is to become a better PVP player? I never heard of such sillyness. Anyway, they tricked me into buying it by portraying it as a vast PvE world. Well I have seen more life in a bathtub than in this game. I predict the lifespan of this game will be insainly short, The only ppl playing this game soon will be all the 12 year olds that cant afford the monthly fee on a REAL game. Owell, anyone interested in buying a nice collectors edition version of this game? Ill sell it to ya cheap, $40, I paid $70!

I don't understand people who say the world is small... there's a lot to be explored beyond the missions. Have you even tried going into the underworld or the fissure of woe? And if you did, did you get discouraged because your team got killed in 10 seconds? Those two areas alone are incredibly vast and challenging.
Mayar third Keeper
shoud i ever betting, i bet on people come up with this again and again -.-

I hope they never raise the level cap ever. The only people who want it raised are the grind freaks from other MMOs.
ANet has basically said that your level is pointless. That is a good thing, as the game rewards skill and not hours played. If ones level is pointless, then there is no reason to raise it. EVER.

zman_acura
in there last update they set ascension to a certain lvl of xp. I think it was 50,000. Check the guild wars site for details. In other words you don't automatically get lvl 20. only if you are close enough in xp.
Inziladun
I love the level cap as it is now. However, people say 'this rewards people for skill, not hours played', and that urks me.
How do you get better? By praticing, so in the end, people who have 10 hours to play GW a day will be BETTER than those casual players.
Anyways, the world isn't small or uninteresting. The world of Tyria is huge! I do admit, i'm not the fan of the storyline, it seemed rather dull and cliche. The PVE gameplay itself was fun, though repetive. This game is really about the PvP, weither Arena Net admits it or not.

i think the lvl should stay at lvl 20 and in the new expension u should get to 20 to 40 and in the 1 after that its 40 to 60 and then 60 to 80 if u get what i mean but i think there should be a bit where u can lvl all the way in a new PVP type bit that way it keeps all those hardcore gammers from complaining ¬_¬
BlaineTog
The game is perfectly fine with a level 20 cap. The so-called "hardcore" gamers just need to realize that this game is not about training your character.

I don't know yet why in most Messageboards
and Forums threats like this open up.
(this is meant to be ironical)
It's quite clear why Guild Wars is liked by most of the
people the way it is.
Bassically it's all a matter of the gamedesign.
Guildwars is a game and therefore it is build like one.
The basis of a game is that everyone has the same chances
of winning and therefore is the levelcap, to be short.
Well for all that are interested into gamedesign and playerbehavior
and are pretty new to the subject i have a link.

And here the test of that is spoken in the article.
The Bartle Test
I hope that helps some people to understand their acting a little better
and makes them realize some things.

And I hate people who whine for something new, something comes along like GW comes through and delivers, and they start complaining how it sucks when it's only been out for than 2 months. Similar games have had a long time to establish themselves. Some people just need to learn to shut up and wait. Chasing the newest thing is the dumbest thing someone can do. At least this issue along with other problems with the game play will weed out the whiners.

People need to quit complaining about things the game doesn't have, 2 months after it's released. For all the people new to how games work, this is how it goes. Games cost millions of $$$ to make, and many years of experienced programmers, writers, translators, graphic designers, etc to make it happen. A.Net has worked diligently to make sure the internet networking to their servers is top notch, but not only that, but free to customer use. Anyways, while the game is being made, it goes through 3 main stages, Alpha, Beta, Release. Alpha is when there is hardly anything to the game at all, maybe the character can walk around and the HUD is halfway to almost being hardly useable. Beta, is when things like UI, AI, character movement and environment interaction has been completed and when the game is rigorously tested for run time errors, called bugs. Then, the game goes gold, and releases. The producers of the game then check things like how the public is reacing to the gameplay elements, and essentially take in suggestions on forums like these. If something in the game is a HUGE problem...it will be fixed. But most importantly, they look to see if the community is willing to go forward with the game, and see if investing in an expansion pack is worth while. Otherwise, they spend millions more of $$$ to make an expansion pack that very few people get to play, which wouldn't be much fun at all for anyone. So, if the game is popular and the community is willing to go forward, they make the next step forward, an xpac. If you want to make a suggestion to the first GW Xpac, sorry to say but that ship has most likely sailed by now. I would guess that the team working on GW has already worked out what will be added, what will be changed, and what will be fixed, as far as major things go(like level cap out, guild hall options, etc). Of course, they can still incorporate things into the xpac that you'd find in a patch as well, because it's not all to difficult to do. The main point being this.
If they have planned to raise the level limit in the future, they will do it when they choose to. I'm not a part of their teams, so I can't say if it will happen in a patch, an xpac, or ever at all, but it's their decision, and with something like a level cap, they have it planned out...trust me...
vLo
Hm. For the HARDCORE PvE-players, I can share a bit of understanding in raising the level cap, since... the PvE-part of the game says "role-play"... which means you play as a role with your _character_. So you'd like to see your _character_ continually develop, not yourself..? Whatever. For PvP, there is absolutely NO reason to raise the level cap. In a matter of fact, it would be absolutely stupid. So no, shh you.

i am at 20 and i have found that to be quite honest, we need higher levels because if anyone tried to walk from beacons to the forge in a party full of 20s its a pain in the butt

If people want a higher cap to makes things easier they're just kidding themselves, since the monsters will be leveled up as well. Lornar's wont be populated by lvl 24's anymore and be replaced by 55's.
The cap is fine the way it is. I just want new zones, new skills and new items. At 20 I get to jump into the action once the new stuff comes out, instead of spending hours just to level enough to participate like in EQ.
I absolutely hated buying a new expansion for EQ only to find out that I had to be higher just to be able to even see any of the new areas, much less fight in them and get new skills and equipment. It was a complete rip-off.
shadow ranger
I dont see why everyone thinks the lv cap should be raised, honestally theres nothing a good team cant acomplish in guild wars, unlike alot of mmo's gw takes skill not just grinding till you can 1 hit everything
Also honestally, from forge to lonars with a team of 20s isnt too hard, unless you and/or your team suck.

No I have to agree with the increase of lvl cap. Yes some ppl do lvl to beat noobies and feal good, but not me. I see it more like a way to occupie my self and set goals
If you want a lvl cap make it so that if you wanna go pvp, your back at lvl. you would loose the extra Hp, but you gane no point attribute point after lvl 20. Or, if they come out with an expansion pack you start at lvl 1(even if your char is lv 20).
Then you would do more misson from the xpension and be able to reache a cap of 30 or so. but when ever you come back to Kryta your back at lvl 20.
