Most collect them for the crimson carapace shield as seen above but they sell between 1 and 2k seperately

They also sell for 1k a piece ^_^

Just don't spend too long trying to spam for buyers, 2 or 3 times a server is enough. After that, just go kill some monsters. Sooner or later there will be buyers. I funded my 55 monk selling shells!

I don't think more than 10 people have ever found a bleached carapace. I saw one sell in game for 800k.

That's what a lie looks like. Carapaces sell for more like 25 gold.

Its annoying as anything, when buying bleached shells, you have to say "WTB Bleached shells 1k each (NOT CARAPACES!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!@!)"

Or you'll get a bunch of lvl17-18s trying to sell you 100 carapaces.

I refused to pay 1k for bleached shells. Just do what I did and do the Dunes of Despair mission. Talk to the ghost to make him stay there. You need a wammo. Bring mending, and disrupt chop and eviscerate. Thats basically all you need. I got bleached shells after a few runs. Thanks to someone for the build, it's not mine.

One could argue that in the time you spent killing wurms, you coulda farmed more than enough to buy the shells.

Look at it not as much much money you spend, but how much worth you are putting into the shells. Time=Money. If you can make 5k in less time than it takes to kill all the wurms needed - then you are winning by paying for them.

And I tell ya--you make 5k much faster than killing wurms for them (I usually got to kill 5 wurms for 1 shell). .

All depends on the build. A good build can farm wurms fast enough to make a profit.

There was a previous topic about ebayers selling GW gold. Read that thread. I replied to that thread and know all about the value of time and money; no need to reiterate that to me.

One could also argue that farming the bleach shells yourself could be done quite quickly in the Dunes of Despair mission. I collected all 5 rather quickly, and I suggested that alternative to those that don't want to spend any money for these 1k bleached shells. Farming for 5k itself is rather boring, and earning these bleached shells yourself instead gives its own intrinsic reward. It's a statement saying, "F- all you sellers, I got these myself".
But sure, if you are rich and want to spend your money, feel free and go ahead.

The trick I have found with all these hard-to-find drops is that I rarely get more than one of them in an area. I know this is not always the case, but It seems to hold true for me.

So I usually go into an area kill the monsters until one drops and zone out, rinse, and repeat. It worked for me for dune burrower jaws, bleached shells, etc. It only took me killing about 7 or 8 wurms to get my 5 shells. Lucky? Probably, but it worked for me.
