Pre-Order Weapons
Reeves
I'm just trying to figure out what weapon comes with what pre-order. This is what I know so far. I really know what comes with the GameStop pre-order because I work there but the others Im not to sure about.
Collectors Game - Aura
GameStop pre - Hammer
EB pre - (I think a bow)
Best Buy pre - (I think a shield)
Is there any more pre-order weapons and also in the game can we trade these items?

Heres a list of all the pre-order items available. And no you can't trade them. They're locked into your account.
The six unique items are:
* Best Buy: Kanthan Targe
* Electronics Boutique: Ithas Bow
* GameStop: War Pick
* CompUSA: Bone Idol
* All others in North America: Censor's Icon
* North America Collector's:Aura
* Europe: Chimeric Prism (NEW!)

Oddly enough. I got the preorder and it did not show in the beta as I was doing it. Is it not supposed to show up on my characters till the actual game comes out?

i wonder if the devine aura is different according to country or simply profession
bouncingsoulx
so i take it if i were to preorder from amazon i'd get a Censor's Icon
Reeves
Alright, thank you for the info! That really sucks that you can't trade them, I mean what if you didn't know what you where getting when you pre-order the game, that and I wanted to see if I could collect them all.

In the same way ATI loves the problems that people have running Guild Wars with N-Vidia cards, EB Games and Gamestop can count on more sales from people that want to have the "ideal weapon"
-I like this part- the good stuff doesn't come from Wal-Mart or Best Buy it comes from the smaller conglomerates selling videogames.
I just hope that all of these weapons can be salvaged after they are no longer useful.
CheopisIV
And as far as usefulness, in my prior mmorpg gaming experience, the "free" in game items were a little bit below the level of usefulness beyond simply "looking cool". I'm hoping they will be good for a while, and I'm sure they'll be good for the intro levels, but by no means are they going to give us endgame items at lvl 1. In essence, I don't think the items will make that big a difference in gameplay overall, even though I did wait for EB to get another shipment so I could have the bow

IMHO, I believe the previous post will be correct. But "if your willing to spend a little more" you can get the collector's edition and then you'd have an aura around you, which to me would be way cooler than a meager weapon (which it most likely will be... bow here too). But braggin rights are braggin rights.

you cant give them away and you cant salvage a customized item
they will be good for the noob area and maybe look *COOL* but they will not unbalance the game by being extra powerful
YOU CAN HAVE THEM ALL
just buy a game from each source or pick them off the ground when someont throws them away because that item is worth less than a storage space
SNAKED AGAIN darn it

I am still peaved that there are weapons that cannot be salvaged. I like to recycle and I don't want to throw anything in the trash.
Reeves
Yeah, Im not really worryed about the use of the weapons, I just like to collect these types of weapons. I hate it when you can't get weapons, but if that is hows its going to be I can't do much about it. I'll be happy with what I got.

In this past beta weekend, i was able to salvage my upgraded, and customized armour (bug? I hope not) Now I don't mean the starter gear, that all needed to be destroyed, but my first pieces of crafted armour broke down into bolts of cloth (mes/ele) when i wanted to upgrade again.

and people who only have access to some places have no choice on what they get compared to their chacter
it is small get over it

Think a level 7 weapon would be an end all?
-I would just LIKE to use the weapon not junk it before getting to Seared Ascalon.
Would even think that there won't be people going to game shops they have never been into just to try out the ______(fill in what you might have gotten if you had bought based on what you got.
-I bought mine at the only place in town, Best Buy. So, I know the pain and don't care, not that the internet wouldn't have solved this.
Would think everyone would only have one class of character?
-Really???
Or would miss the joke about being peaved about not being able to salvage the one set of "starter" weapons.
-I am worried about filling the landfills in Ascalon, but I am more concerned about filling them with dead Carr.

and the really big laugh is that none of the characters i will wind up with will need the hammer i thought i would want
incidently in green askalon it will be the best weapon for started characters regardless of profession until at least level 4-5 as you can do more damage faster with melee weapon than the starter skills at those levels
EDIT
i am no longer tied to the hammer as i upgraded to the collectors for the aura not the item
EDIT AGAIN

there is a collectors item as well but i forget what it is
you will not be left out itemwise but who knows if it will be useful to you (or me)

Again, the weapon/item may be a useless trinket that shows prestige (beta CoH people were actually "shiny") but I'd like to know if its going to be a "pick a character to have the thingie" or if all 4 chars get one? More than likely the pick-a-char route.

I guess I had gotten the impression that I would get both. Oh well, I would rather have the Aura anyway. I will pick up one of them fancy atribute gaining shields later on in the game when I need it anyway.

Gaile has confirmed this also.
Don't worry..
And yes, all characters get it. Even if you delete the character later, the new character you create will also have it. The items are connected to the account, not the characters.

Those of us with real weapons would just force the respawn of innocent people trying to have naked dance parties.
Alas,

ya. I know that the aura is different according to professions, and that you only get it when the weapon is equipted, but will each different character get a different weapon/item, or will everyone get a sword, or will each profession get a different weapon?!
ps: I hope that each character gets a different aura item, that way, everyone gets a unique weapon.

The aura isn't a "weapon." It should just be another piece of equipment that can be worn, or taken off. And since you know that the aura is different according to professions.. that would also imply that if you have all four characters with four different primary professions, then each character will have a different aura based on the profession.
And.. there's nothing about "weapons" connected with the aura. A few of the preorder items, on the other hand, are weapons. The preorder items are different depending on where you preorder. However, if you preorder from EBgames, for example, and buy the CE, then ALL of your characters will have the bow. The aura will change depending on the character.

FROM GW
Exclusive In-game Item, the “Divine Aura”
Only an elite few gain the attention and favor of the gods, but those who do receive a celestial gift—a Divine Aura, a glowing visible token of their god’s blessing. When players purchase the Collector’s Edition of Guild Wars, each of their characters will receive this unique in-game item. Characters who equip the item are surrounded by a unique aura determined by the god who has bestowed it, and the item itself has a shape and color distinctive to that specific god. Once blessed by the gods, Divine Aura stays with a character; it cannot be traded or given to others.

ya, umm, what exactly does divine aura do? Is it just there to make you look cooler than others? Does it amplify your classes skills (example-rangers get +5 on marksmanship)? Or does it constantly heal you or boost damage or something?
Loviatar
it looks cool
5 to marksmanship when a top rune only gives 3
give me a break

So, I wouldn't expect too much. I'm happy just with glowing. It's less a benefit, and more of a "this is my sign that I support ANet avidly" for me.
And yes, I -am- an avid fan.
EDIT: And yes, all of the benefits you listed are.. well, highly implausible, I'm sorry. There's no way that ANet would even think about adding most of those, since even I can see that it'll cause a huge balance issue.

o man, i was hoping for a little boost above other non-special edition buyers!!! will i glow a color, and can i see w/ it better in like a crypt or other dark area?

As for seeing better in crypts.. um.. everyone sees pretty well in dark caves already. The released version doesn't have many indoor/cavern areas (most notable being the ice caves in the Shiverpeaks and the catacombs in pre-searing).. and the devs have said that they're saving most "dungeon"-like areas for a later expansion.
So no, you really don't need to be a walking lamp-post. And honestly, do you really want to have a glowing radius reminiscent of some huge firefly? A lot of people are afraid of the very opposite -- that it'll look tacky. (I personally can't wait to see it..) But on a purely rational level.. just think of that effect in Tombs. Hey! Target the glow-guy! KILL!!

they were more size

Or conversely, one's party members might have to tell him, "Hey, Glow-Boy. Ya wanna tone it down before you aggro every monster in the dungeon?" ^_^

And to bring a semblence of staying on topic.. I know that people were discussing PvE rewards.. especially aesthetic awards.. and with the WoW (Worlds at War, not War of Warcraft!) concept, with that special area that can be opened by the team hold HoH, I'm suspecting that we might get quite a few bragging rights. Well.. at least at first..

So basically if you get the special one you glow? Heh.
