Wacky Graphics O.o

I'm running a 6600 Geforce DDR AGP 8x w/ 256mb. Originally I was running Guild Wars on one of the geforce 4 series, and it ran very smoothly, wasn't exactly stunning, but never had a single problem. I've got a 150gig hard drive, AMD Athlon processor, and 512 RAM. When I start loading an area, and the bar gets to 100% and my character is initially in the world, my graphics just... well... crap out. Everything turns all streak. Everything turns into polygons, and starts flashing on and off, and certain meshes streak all across the map. I'll try and post a picture, but does anyone know this issue? It also seems to happen whenever my character stands still, or on any other loading screens

Had to edit out some stuff, but this is me immediately after loading in thirsty river. All those blurs are people. This familiar to anyone?

i was going to suggest that maybe you were getting artifacts because your card was overheating/overclock too high, but image doesn't look like an artifact problem. do you have the latest drivers? and if this is only happening in guild wars, i would just give the game a fresh reinstall to see what happens. worse comes to worse you can contact nvidia or if the problem presists see if your retailer or card distrubitor will uphold the warrenty.

I'm running newest nvidia beta drivers, they work with everything else. I think a reinstall is just what the doctor ordered, thanks for the suggestion, I'll let you know how it goes.

If you dont think those are artifacts, you need to look again.

I had a similar problem to that, albeit not as pronounced. It turned out to be the drivers I was running, the latest release at the time. They worked fine in every other game yet for some reason didn't like Guild Wars.

Now I'm running 81.98's and they're fine across the board.

OR...you are in a Time Warp at Light Speed.

I never use the latest drivers just for problems like that. I rather have tried and true older ones.

That's also my mantra too. I was very happy running the old 77.77 release but for some reason decided to try the latest (at the time) 78.03's which didn't like Guild Wars at all.

Now I'm running the 81.98 and they are by far the best set I've used to date. I don't know if it's all in my mind, but the colours in Guild Wars looked more vibrant than with the earlier sets.

One thing I never do is run the beta release drivers, for some reason I just don't trust something as important as video drivers when they're still in the beta stage.

Well, I fiddled around with all kinds of settings last night, and I ended up turning off vertical sync, and that solved the problem. Once I saw vertical sync I knew that was the problem, because the only other problem I've had with a game involved vertical sync... odd, I don't even know what it is lol

Scratch that last post, I'm extremely pissed right now. After succeeding in playing for 2 hours last night with NO problems whatsoever, I entered the game today; yielding the exact same problems as before. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is going on here? Problems like this definetly are not hit or miss. Since I was working with beta drivers, I decided to go with the 81.98 that everyone seems to be in love with. Same problem. I'm about ready to smash this video card with a hammer; anymore suggestions?

Remember to CLEAN out your vid drivers befroe instlling new ones. you need a video card driver CLEANER program.

Other Tech Heads better then I can explain that proccess thoroughly....

I learned how to clean last month when the problem first started, I achieved that, and I assure you that's the least of my problems. If I have to look at the screwed up graphics one more time, I'm going to throw my monitor out the window.

You could always try a fresh C drive format....I know...it is a big hassle....

Especially when I'm running about 15 other game flawlessly. The manufacturer hasn't been much of a help either. I wish I knew why it was fixed last night... Those settings just stopped working, and since I wasn't running any programs in the background then or now, I don't understand what's changed. I think I'll give the beta drivers another try, because 81.98 have NEVER worked...

Every second thread I read here seems to indicate one problem or another, and the user has an Nvidia card...

I did use Nvidia once, long ago when the Viper V770 Ultra TNT2 card was brand new on the store shelf. However for the past 4-ish years I've been running Radeon. A 9600 Pro, and more recently a X1800 XL. I've never suffered any graphical probems with any game I've played in that timeframe.

Perhaps in some benchmarks Nvidia can outperform ATI cards. But honestly, with these high end cards... I'll take the 110fps over top of the 120fps and graphical issues with 'x' game. I don't think I'll notice the 10fps difference...

That's me.

I had a similar problem with my nvidia fx 5500. Seemed to fix the problem by uninstalling my video driver, and re-installing it with the disc that I have.

One thing. Before you install new drivers, always go into control panel and un-install your present ones. Then re-boot into safe mode and run Detonator Destroyer from within safe mode. Once that's been done re-boot as normal and your svreen will be at 640x480 resolution, then you can install your new drivers and re-boot. Then you're free to set your desktop back to your prefered resolution.

One quick point though. Due to the limitations of safe mode, always put a link to the new drivers on your desktop.

k, well I put the beta drivers back on and the problem persisted, of course. Just to check, I switched out monitors, and the problem still stayed. Oddly, I ran guild wars and it started "repairing data archive" for about 2 or 3 minutes. Anyone know what that means?
