Thinking about buying! What's it like?

Hey peeps.
I'm new here and since I stopped playing Star Wars due to its lack of people playing, I was wondering of the 55.00 is worth the game and experience of Guild Wars. What's the game like? Is it just a kill and move on game or can a person make credits by creating things? A little insight please. If I posted this in the wrong place, I apologize.
Thanks in advance.

If you live in America, its not 55 bucks. Only 39.99 in most game stores.
Mustache Mayhem
it's a unique game.. the pve can keep you entertained for quite awhile and is really full of eye candy (you have alot of options like dye and different types of weps/armors with the same stats- but you can actually be a beggar moneywise and have things equal statwise to the guy who's wearing expensive things).. the engine's good to go too- you can play it on almost anything.. buildwise each character has over 150 skills to mess with =] and has awesome pvp- really hard to compare the pvp in guildwars to other mmo's
thunderpower
It's worth every buck, got mine for 49 bucks, online serial key... no regrets

I used to play SWG too. I'm never going back. GW is worth every penny.
GW is not anything like SWG though. You can't run around freely and make things here, but there's no camping and this game actually has balanced combat!

Diablo???
It's so addictive it's like crack cocain laced with LSD and lots of rum.... Guild Wars, it's good stuff.

if your a pve player your suruly going to be disappointed.
The PvE content of the game is a little lacking its not great but its not bad I would say the best description for PvE in this game is the next evolution of diablo 2.
PvP on the other hand is great game involving skill, teamwork, and strategy.
The Downside is you will need to have played some pve or pvp to be somewhat competitive in PvP ie get half decent skills beyond the few mediocre premade builds you can get for free.
There really isnt really any way to make money besides killing stuff and trading with other players and NPCs. In fact the game is designed so that the high level items can be aquired for a reasonable price but if you want any vanity skin on them you will pay up the wazoo.
For Example if you wanted a max damage sword with a max damage mod on it you can get it realitivily cheap from a crafter in droknors forge (about 5k+some cheap materials) however the sword has an very unimpressive short sword skin. If you wanted a more popular fell blade, dragon sword, long sword or Flamberge skin with the same mods you would have to get very lucky or trade another player 20k+ for it.
Another Example is the armor in the game. Players can get Max Armor from Droknors Forge realitivly cheaply (1.5k a piece + Some cheap Materials).
If you wanted some cooler looking armor you can goto an out of the reach out post and get cooler looking armor with exactly the same stats for 15k a piece plus some rare crafting materials.
If you wanted the most expensive armor in the game with exactly the same stats as the cheap 1.5k armor it would involve paying 15k a piece and collecting really rare crafting materials that only drop in some of the toughest "dungeons" in the game. It would probabaly take you more than a 100 hour long runs through those "dungeons" to collect enough materials to craft the armor. A full 5 piece set of "Fissure" armor costs over 1.3 Million gold.
Though if you into any sort of player vs player play or games of team strategy Guild wars PvP is the game for you.

It's purely go to town, form a group, and go out and whack stuff (or other people in PvP). Which is fine by me becuase that's all I'm looking for in an MMO.
If you really like that sort of fluff stuff, I'd probaly recommend WoW over GW. I've heard they have a lot of that sort of thing.

Guild Wars...what can I say...? Possibly the best game I've ever played. I've been playing guild wars since the preorder beta way back a year ago and still am addicted to it.
Oh and by the way, as this is a Guild Wars forum, most of these posts you see will be biased (i always say that for some reason).
well hope you find it as fun as I have

I don't think you'll get the most balanced critique of Guild Wars on a Guild Wars site, I'm afarid..

Do not buy GW.
You will play it, reach max level in a few weeks, experiment with different builds, and finally realize that you wasted time on a game with no depth or options. After a solid 10 months of playing, I can assure you that the first few months were great! I had 5 max level PVE characters and all the skills unlocked and, basically, did some PVP for a month and experimented with several builds. However, you will come to see that Guild Wars lacks the depth some games have. For example - a VERY linear combat and magic system with no crafting at all (to buy armor, you 'craft' it at an armorer).
The game also has no specialization, preventing anyone from ever having an advantage over a higher level person. In addition, items are basically worthless after the huge influx of goods bought and sold through ebay and bots have made it near impossible to do anything smart with your money (or items).
Want my opinion?
Go play WoW, lineage 2, or wait for a new game to come out that will offer you a good deal. By all means - GW is a good game, but after hearing you ask "Is it just a kill and move on game or can a person make credits by creating things", I would have to lable it as a 'kill and move on game'. And if it is that which you are looking for, there are better ways to find and play that sort of game.
Take care.

I love GW, one of the better online games I'ev played in years. If your looking for something you can jump into and learn quickly, GW would probably be it.
You can solo with henchmen (NPCs you can "pick up) through most of the game if you so want, but later, the AI isn't smart enough to win the later missions.
Money isn't hard to come by, and truth be told, you really don't need much of it... unless, as stated above you want "vanity" items.
PvE is really good and better if you can find a guild of like-minded people. The missions and quests are not hours upon hours long, so you move along quickly.
I can't speak for PvP really. I tried it. Was bored to tears. So it obviously wasn't for me. I do know others that love it though, and there's a pretty big fan base of the PvP. So, it's apparently good... I just didn't like it.
Tons of eye candy in the enviroment, but most spells lack flash and bang - course once you actually see the game in motion, it would be hard to add in more flash to the engine.

Best feature I like is you can stay for 5 to 30 mins only and you will actually accomplish something.

STOP ASKING STUPID QUESTIONS.
-No monthly fee.
-No equipment based PvP.
-Plenty of missions/quests to keep you busy for months of non-grind playing.

Its great game, like every game, it eventually gets boring, but trust me, it won't happen for a long time. Ive been playing for about a year or so, and its slowing down for me. But you have 4 slots to make pve characters, so you can try out all the professions. For those characters you can get gold for armor/weapons/items/skills. Then once you beat pve(like me) and your character is blinged out, then you can spend countless hours in pvp perfecting builds and strategies. It's worth it.
Ilya Khan
Granted, no equipment based PVP. However, that means the PVP is entirely skill/spell based (if not just 'build' based in general). You will be able to create and use about a dozen or so templates, such as a Pyromancer, Minion master, or Paladin, but if you wan't any control over what skills or what kind of buffs you may give to your weapons/armor, you will need to spend quite a bit of time to get the desired skills. In addition, capturing/buying all the skills you wish to have for a desired build may take a while.
I disagree with the 'non-grind' comment. Sure, after a month or so, you will have a level 20 (max level) character. However, after that point, what is the point of doing quests/PVE other than for items or experience to get more skills? This is what I would call 'grind' because you work to get a ton of experience so that you may learn one new skill.
Like Thor Hammerbane puts it - it eventually gets boring. Just for some, it may happen quicker than you wish.
My ultimate advice?
Wait for the weekend coming up where one can 'invite a friend' to play for a couple days. Just check these forums later and you may see people offering their invitations. Wait 'till then to see what GW is like.

GuildWars = Great value for money.

guild wars is ok for the first couple months once you have gone thru it with a couple lvl20's farming or PvP is the only thing to do and farming gets dull when u have more money then u can spend
Retribution X
It's still fun since release.
It's got a decent PvP system, Decent PvE system, Halfway Decent storyline, and it is worth the cash i paid.

You will get this alot, when people say
"PLAY GW ITS BETTER THAN WOW"
and vice versa..
I play both, GW has better PVP in my opinion and build designs than WoW
But WoW has better RP elements.
GW= Hard to Make Money, WoW = easy to make money
GW= More satisfying when you get that weapon you want, WoW = Bleh until next level weapon lol
They both kinda even themselves out. But if you should buy GW yes, for a once payment you have all round the clock entertainment when you want without worrying if your time is up :P

i would suggest buying factions, after the preview event. World of warcraft etc, are pretty much grind. You grind for levels, you grind for gold. Some people like the feeling of accomplishing level after level, but it also brings out the imbalance. Just try the factions event, if you ask, i would be sure almost anyone who hasn't used up their invitations (3 per account) will send you one.

Guild Wars != Grind therefore the only outcome is Fun.
