ok first off.. the chat channels in this game are a mess. There is virtually no use for them except to find a group. The spam is so bad i just shut all channels off but party.. so much for any chance at a community.
People find the /$ channel is spamming too fast due too their own peers... so they come and spamm the /all channel.. eraticating any kind of good conversation that was going on..just crap like

^^^^^and thats the /all channel
This to me, makes this game into a combat only game. clearly.. ppl being forced to shut off all channels, cant be "working as intended".
/ignore is a joke<---that being said.. this game has no /ignore..it doesnt ignore anything but whispers? wtf is that. limited to 25, so you must either have no friends or have the griefers text in your face
^^^^cant be "working as intended"
And the grouping interface is not there..for a guild based, team combat game....... this is not going to work.
So im not sure who the target customer is.. but im an adult and a mmo type game with no channels that are usable to chat with non-salesman spammer is in no way a fun experiance.. its not involving.. its just SPAMMMMMM.
Making a group is so annoying most would rather get some henchies and die a couple time rather then spend an hour spamming the sea of spam to try and rally some troops.
These being fixed and updated would make this game for me.... a whole lot more enjoyable and entertaining. I know it can be done, and i dont think these are "engine" changing dev situations..
rant over.. --im /anti spellcheck sorry

I agree, the chat system of GW has to be radically reworked. Sucks telling this to the devs at this point, but I heard so many complaints that I think it became a priority.
We need more channels and more customization. Local channel can stay as it is for spammers (It's always off when I play), but I want to have a 2nd channel for general chat limited to a certain range. I also want filters for each channel. Like I want to see Trade and Emote messages in my Party or Guild channel but NOT in the Local channel.
I bet the more I'll think about this the more ideas I'll have.
I don't like naming other games here but just take a look at City of Heroes. That chat system was better.

ya i agree, giving us the ability to add diff windows would help... i sure dont care who picked up what item, and during combat, i would rather see my teams commecnt and commands rather then a sea of green spam..like soo and so picked up...
So the ability to remove some text would be an improvement

agreed, the chat system does need to be reworked. the spamming is insane sometimes, I just shut off the main chat channel to make up for the lack of a working ignore function.

I just hope they make the ignore feature useful. I'm sick and tired of spam & the idiots who thinks their casino spam belongs to the main chat ... GO AWAY!

The sad part is that spammers will make use of whatever channels they can get their grubby little fingers into. They have the trade channel, which in some places is totally spammed out to the point that sellers and buyers are doubling up the spam in the local channel.
I've read it before where someone metioned the idea of a set "range" for chat to be "heard". That would be a start at least in some of the worse areas. It is possible to find a quiet corner even in LA or AC. Might get people to start cluming a bit more tightly into staging areas in those places a bit closer to the exits and force people to do like they do IRL to go shopping or selling.. Either "leave the house and go looking" or go knocking door to door" to sell.
Not a great solution and I have NO idea how much coading that would involve on ANet's side of things. I would prefer to be able to completely separate the different channels into separate windows though, so I'm not trying to shop or talk or constantly have anything my team or guild says poof off my sceen before I can look at it due to all teh spam.

We need regions we can go to set aside for the specific activities that annoy the beegeebers out of us. Islands set aside for trading/roleplay/Casinos(if they must)/guild recruitment... If a player is interested in any of these, there should be a place for him to go.

AS far as WTS and WTB goes...an idea that has been put out there alot is the auction/classified area for people to put items that they have found up in this area for others to come by and find an item they are looking for.
IF it can be made to work properly without people trying to scam or cheat people, this can work.
For example: I want to sell a sword 15-25dmg, +5 armor, uncustomized (cutomized items cant be put up for sale), I go to the auction/merchant house, give the NPC my item (this way the item can be seen for what it is and is readily available), and they sell it for me at the price I would like to sell it for. Come back later to see if it has been sold and pick up my money if it has. Probably might have the NPC take a % of the sale as a comission to balance out the system.
The only problem with this idea is getting this system developed to work properly and the time it will take to make it.
The Spamming is annoying, but adding filters and more channels means more ways for the spammers to spam thier material and find ways around filters.

I think the best way to do this is make assigned trading, partying and chating districts in every city. I like the way the trades work, and the reason players randomly spam for parties in every city is because there is no search function to look for parties and ask them personally.
If they had a couple dozen selectable districts for parties, trading, and conversation then players who know what they are looking for can meet in those districts. This doesn't mean that you can't spam trades or parties in these districts, disabling those chat modes in certain districts just means jerks who are in the wrong channel will spam in normal say mode, but players would have an understanding that certain people are gathered together in certain districts.
Also you can limit your conversation to whos in your party and your guild, if your in a big guild then you can keep good discussions in your guild channel, only problem is guilds are built around competition so you may not be in one just to chat.
I personally don't merit the time to read anything said anyways, because this game is so involving that I can bearly find an unattended moment to just sit back and chat. I think as I get to end game content I will probably seek more interaction, but as it stands, I realy don't care much.

Well for the most part I agree, I also believe the problem has diminished lately do to some good trends. First off in the larger hubs like Ascalon and Lions Arch you'll notice most merchants cling to the 1st dis and will overflow sometimes into the 2nd dis. So in a sense we do have auction houses in the two large cities in the 1st districts. If you dont want to trade just stay clear of those areas and you will find a much calmer environment in the upper districts, and with good luck you'll be surrounded with like people. Luckily it is just to easy to jump to a different district to find the atmosphere u want.
