Dunes--> getting there is the hard part

Okay, I'm on my 3rd character in the crystal desert. Done everything but dunes, its easy, done it twice before. Now, I can make it all the way to the teleporter. But then there are these sand worms. They kill us no matter what we do. We've gone from all angles, we sprint, we dodge, but there are like 5 of them, and they always knock us down, then kill us.

How the hell can we beat this. I don't remember this before.

you must be taking a different route

I've gone thru the Desert with 3 chars also

my 1st character took a route that was plagued with SandWorms
(and sounds like the route you are taking)

unfortunately,
I forget how to avoid them

My group had basically one person run through all the zones until there was a portal.

Yeah, a way of getting there is getting as close to the entrance as you possibly can before dying, and hoping you respawn at the shine next to the entrance to Dunes.

Sand Wurms are cake, it those god-awful Sand Elementals I hate with a passion. But yeah, getting to Dune's is far more difficult than the actual mission itself.

I guess it makes up for Elona's Reach. Cake to get to, but the mission's pretty tough.

If you don't want/can't to avoid the worms, you need to get a Warrior with a Doyak Signet or some other skill in which he can't be knocked down. The warrior walks forward and everyone else hangs back out of encounter range (the small circle in your mini-map) . The worms will attack him first and as long as he doesn't move, they'll stay on him. The warrior can then hack and slash without getting knocked down and the group can blast the thing to bits from range.

Myself (a warrior), a Monk and a Ranger can take down two ice worms at a time doing this. With more people in the party it shouln't be too bad. This should also work well with dune worms. In fact this stragey should work with just about any monsters you encounter, it does for me :-)

I don't have much of a problem getting to Dunes, but River is a major pain for me.

There's nothing quite like racing to try and get those teleporter triggers lit up while getting the snot beat out of you.

As I said, I've done every route--> the worms are always there. And with 5 of us running with sprint we still died.

I had the same problem, I went right as you go into venture drifts, the hug the left hand side of the mountain to teleporter, then hug the right hand side and you should be going through some ruins of old buldings. I didn't pass any sand worms that way.

Just kill the wurms. Most effective.

Yeah, just kill them all. Besides the worms sometimes give bleached shells, which, if you don't want them yourself, can be sold to others for a fairly nice amount.

There's only one worm, it just shows up in a bunch of places. Kill one, they all go down. If you're trying to run, don't bother. Gotta kill your way to that one.

Lure Sand elementals to the wurm, it might attack them instead of you, leaving you to run away =)

Does anybody have a map of the area with lines drawn in? I am only familiar with the portal but as you are all talking there seems to be another way.
