I was just wondering, if one character joins a faction, can another join the other.

If both are on the same account I would think not.
Reasoning:
1. (To my knowledge) Only Guilds can join a certain faction.
2. If you join a guild with 1 character, all characters on that account are in that guild.
3. Hence, all characters are in the same faction on the same account.
However, if the above is true, two characters from different accounts could join the faction in opposition to the other.

One Faction per account...but you can change factions. You do jobs, which gains you faction for which Faction you worked for, this will result in them liking you, eventually asking you to join. Likewise, the other Faction will dislike you the more you do for the other.
