This is not ANet nerfing the Lt. Helm or fixing an old incorrect stat that exceeded the max limitation this is them effectively raising the upper limit. If, and yes this will NOT happen, they raised the lvl cap to 30 yet told us that characters created prior to this new change cannot raise past lvl 20 and that we needed to delete our characters and start fresh to attain lvl 30 it would be prett crappy. This is the choice you are faced with, 'start over' and get the now perfect shield or be stuck at the previous mark of perfection that has since been raised.

I understand why this change was made but as I stated i believe a shield that had a 100% mod (ie. perfect) should scale to the new 100%.

What's next, raising the sword dmg to 26 and devestating those who've sunk huge amounts of money into perfect/near perfect Crystalines?

The reason this is a big deal is because when they changed the maximum for the mod they altered a stat which was set in stone and which people never imagined could change, let alone would change. The market bore the price that was paid for that shield because it was perfect, if ANet sees fit to tweak such intrigal parts of this game this far out what's next?

This is a change to a fundamental stat that should be unchangable, yes +60 is a better number because you are hexed far less than enchanted and the bonus should be bigger. If they want to raise the stat then raise it but update the items as I suggested in my above post on a % scale.
When I first read the OP's post I was kinda like tuff luck, but after thinking about it and reading Owens take on it, Im not so sure that Anet is in the right. Where do they draw the line, imagine if they changed 15>50 to 20>50. Im not too sure on the solution but it is clearly an issue of some substance, myself if I was out the 121k Id be pissed, especially seens as you wont be able to resell for even a quarter of its value. Basiaclly I hope they think long and hard about changes to key stats, and possibly try not to screw longtime players through updates. Tuff call all around IMO.

Ah right. My bad. I have the stance one too. But I also farmed for the hexed one, I just cant remember what the heck the collector wanted for it.

As long as ANET updates the collectors, I'm fine with it.

Well, I think that they should pay just as much attention to the smaller, more 'hard-core', richer GW community as the smaller, less 'hard-core', less fortunate GW community. Why? Becuase it is us, the 'hard-core' players, that really make the game fun for all the less fortunate players, take this academy for example, the size of the LBS Officer's running threads on gwg.com are proof of how many people rely on LBS to make this game fun for them. Other people were going to stop playing the game all together if it wasn't for LBS to give the game a new and fun aspect, and LBS aren't the only people that provide the less-fortunate with services. They shouldn't be allowed to blow the smaller community off seeing as how the smaller community are the people who really make the game fun for the less-fortunate. From another stand point, the smaller, more hard-core community get A.Net a large sum of their money because most of us have more then one account. That's all I have to say, even though I wasn't 'scammed' or effected in a negative way by the new update, I'm still outraged for the people that were.

Also, for everyone that is saying 'boo-hoo' if you had worked your ass off for the extremely large some of money only to find out that you had basically spent your money on something that now was worthless you would be outraged. After you 'beat-the-game' some people don't just like to stop playing the game, they like to look for new, fun aspect's of the game. So, they set new 'goals' for the game and seeing as how they can't beat any more level's, they move on to trying to get perfect item's and FoW armor. Their reward is having or wearing it and showing everyone all the long hours they have spent working to get the necessairy materials/gold to get the item/armor. To all of the people that say the game isn't about getting all the best stuff, maybe you havn't beaten the game, maybe you have, but some of us have to look for a new aspect/goals for the game in order to keep us playing.

Perfect items are not worthless. Yours just isn't perfect anymore.

This is an online RPG game with a large focus on balanced PVP. Obviously, things have to kept balanced. Things may need to be reworked. THINGS CHANGE. Take a moment and read that until you both understand and accept it, or else this is going to keep happening. It's an evolving game. Take another moment and think about what it would be like if they never even touched it after release.

If you held the best weapon in a more item-centric MMORPG, only to have a new expansion released that added better ones, would it make sense to complain to the GMs that they didn't give you any of them? After all, your perfect weapon that you spent so much time getting is now "worthless"! Sure, you might be upset, but you're showing off a lot of stupid vanity to think you deserve it. While skill is what matters most in Guild Wars, it doesn't make your request any less asinine by comparison.

Its kind of hard to understand what you are saying
Of course it is. "WHAT!? CHANGE!?".

NEWS FLASH: Your item hasn't been changed. You bought a shield with +45hp and -3 while hexed, something static and not relative. It also wasn't overpowered; they INCREASED the maximum health possible. It was a safe purchase. You're just too stuck up on being "perfect".

Of course it would be pretty crappy, but that isn't what's happening. You made a poor analogy because they're not making you delete your (previously) perfect +45hp shield to be able to get a new +60hp one. It's more like ANet raising the character level cap to 30 (like you said, not doing it) and some level 20s complaining because their level isn't a perfect 20/20 (100%) anymore. So they demand to be autolevelled to 30. And that every other level should get bonus experience too.

After all, you spent all that time and hard work on your character (which can be related to gold for your item). To reference the OP, they must not have thought that anyone would care.

Nonsense. Even if I had spent all my money on a weapon, and say it's damage was increased right afterwards, I would be far from outraged. I probably would be a little annoyed, but that would be mostly at myself for my error in judgement, and I wouldn't be blaming everyone else. Why? Because I have the sense to know that THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME. Before spending so much, weigh the possibilities that it might be not even be worth a tenth of what you bought it for after the next patch. If it's worth it, then it's still worth it after such a change.

I feel sorry that you had to spend all that gold for such a let down. -.- Very painful. I'd feel the same way if one of my lovely skinned weapons was changed into the normal skin. Especially that pre-searing crystal skinned long sword (Best alternative to the real thing for skin collectors like myself.)

I understand the frusfration of paying top price for the best items in the game only to find them less than best the next day.

I do not prefer upgrades in the max stats of items as I'm very against grinding.

However, I strongly disagree your statement that Anet should value its hardcore players more than the casual players. Every player should have equal rights to voice out their opinions whether they play the game less often or 24 hours daily. Its not like casual players get the game for free.

Just because I seldom utilize my club facilities, does not mean my membership is less valuable and should be considered as 2nd class/rate. Your statement, to me, is inconsiderate to say the least.

Well if you think about it, all other [while hexed] modifications have been more powerful than their user controlled counterparts, such as [while enchanted] or [while health is above 50%].

So it makes perfect sense to allow something which you have little control over, a hex, to give more of a bonus than an enchantment which you can control easily.

lol. true in that aspect. but the point is more towards why someone would buy something they really don't need as opposed to the whining about a new model coming out..

As long as ANET updates the collectors (HINT HINT) to match the PVP items it's all good to me.

Oh and shields wouldnt be so hard to find if you were allowed to mod them the way you can with weapons. It's a freaking lotto just to find that one shield with all the right stats that you want.

I believe that Anet was really trying to help! lets look at the math.

Negative conditions modifiers usually get 25% more than a controlable modifier, right?

Lets see the math.
45 * 1.25 = 56.25. i'm assuming they rounded up.

I can understand that Anet has the right to alter things, it states as much in the TOS. However, core modifiers...I am touchy with. Someone, (I'm too lazy to scan back through) brought up a point about how many accounts Anet would have to scour in order to alter all the +45 shields to balance it out. Ummm...they DID that with HoD helms, they did it with the 20/20 axes. Interestingly, the only time they seem to do it is when they are taking things away from it. So, as far as it goes, I don't think it takes a whole lot of effort on their part to do that.

Why use a 20% at 1 out of every 5 hits will be reduced.

We have -2 stance, enchant, and hex having long durations. So at the 5 hits the -5/20% would have triggered once while the duration -2 would have reduced 10.

Your old sheilds are still better than the new one by a long shot. Just give the market time to figure it out.
I think +60 ... or anything with helth over 45 while hexed will have only a -5 reduction with a +xx% chance. No stance, hexed, enchanted, etc... dmg reduction.

Regarding the damage reduction, bad math. -5 with 20% dosent mean -1 dmg reduction in 5 hist. Each attack will get a chance of 20% (or whatver) to be reduced with 5. So you could get 25 reduction in 5 hits... or 0.
On the long term... maybe the average will be somewhere around -1.

Some things they alter across the board and some things they just modify all future drops.

It isn't really that big of a deal. I would anticipate a lot of this type of market swing when the next chapter rolls out. What you paid 250k for now may not even be worth selling in a couple months.

First - for complaining about folks making negative remarks about your purchase - you posted on a gaming forum, what did you expect? Some folks won't agree with your "problem".

Second - why is this news to you? People paid huge amounts of cash for perfect fellblades, perfect crystalines, storm bows, etc - then sorrows furnace came along and suddenly, you could get "perfect" green items fairly reliably. Don't you think all those folks that spent 500K on a stupid game item suddenly had a bit of buyer's regret?

Sorry, I just don't feel sorry for anyone that spends their ingame cash on items. I've never bought any weapon or item in game, everything I have I found on my own. I seem to be doing just fine with what I have. Paying anything more than a couple of plat on stuff is simply vanity.

To the OP....

Are you planning on using this for PvE or PvP? If it was for PvE, you still have the same shield with the same benefits. It would be the best of the best out there anyway. Its not like you're going to be fighting another hexed warrior with the updated shield They also didn't buff hexes to the percentage of the shield or anything like that.

Your shield has little resale value now, which is a shame. And if you wanted to buy a better one, you would have to dish out all that money again. (Lets just hope the sales trend for the updated shield isn't based on the one you bought).

If it was for PvP? Oh, well, looks like you might need to buy a new shield

Nope. most of the greens suck, and people are finally starting to realize that. Also greens are identical, and anyone can have one. To a collector it's having one of very few items in the entire game.

This isn't about upgrading anything. If you could take any item to a trader and upgrade it to this weeks version then yeah, it would be silly to voice a complaint.

As for rerolling a PvP character, go back to the Ascalon Arena where you belong.

You simply reinforced my argument "as a collector" = vanity. OMG I HAVE TEH L33T1ST SHIELD IN TEH GAME I ROXORZ! It's an item you don't really use, it's more for bragging about, much like the morons paying up to 100K for a silly knife that does piddly damage against Ogres.

And I said something about PVP characters? I spend most of my time in tombs, SF, UW, or GVG. You spend most of your time running around whoring yourself out for money? How about you go back to Beacon's Perch?

Much as this entire thread has been fairly amusing, the best part is that the OP could quite easily have farmed 15-20k towards a new one(maybe more if you include his E-mail to anet) in the time he has been whining about it.

Seems to me, a lot of people are missing the mark on what guild wars is about. There are no UBER items, and there is nothing in GW worth enough money to get excited about.

Lets assume we want to get the most expensive GW kit we can find. So we go for a Max Dmg Sundering Crystaline Sword of Fortitude, a max shield with a rare skin, and set of FoW armour - maybe 2000plat, not likely to be any more.

Lets also say we aren't very good at making money(which for someone who cares about such items is unlikely), so the best we can do is farm SF for around 100plat a day. Its still only 20 days.

What is REALLY rare in GW are genuinly good players. Some people should work a little more at that than trying to get items which really arent hard to get, and dont make much difference to anything at all.

Sorry, but I don't care.

Why? A simple example. I bought 500 Globs of Ectoplasm for 15K, when I looked at the price the next day, it was halved. Yep.. Too bad, can't change it.

Why should it be any different with you? I didn't see the Ecto price halving coming, and you didn't see this coming. Though luck, but nothing more
