Pets- Do they grow?
Ashleigh McMahon
Hello.
This thread is in two questions.
1: What happens as pets gain levels?
2: Do pets ever grow in size, like grow bigger? If so, how? And what are the differences?
Thanks.
Regards, Ashleigh.

1: They get stronger, more HP, and dish out more damage.

edit: guh! how many of these must i edit?

How do wolfs turn into " elder wolfs" then?
I was told that at level 17 or something, they transform into a bigger form.
can anyone correct/ confirm this please?
Regards, Ashleigh.

The name is the only thing that changes. Unless you do a /petname

Hmm.
In the old BWE's, i made a W/R pvp character.
The " Elder Wolf" looked bigger than the " normal wolfs" in pre-searing.

this may be the case however you are unable to capture the wolfs in pre-searing as they have some kind of charm-break skill.
i know if you use a thunderstone on a elder wolf it will evolve into zapawolf.
trust me when i say pets do NOT grow in anyway.
edit: looks like i may be wrong here, i cannot confirm as i am quite happy with my spider. please send picts.

Is it at all possible to tame wolfs in pre-searing? Perhaps if I had a knockdown warrior to help?
Also, are all pets balanced in a way? Like no pets are better than other pets?

Im not sure how that would work.. donno if you can get knockdowns in pre.
pets are good at diff. things (correct me if im wrong)
stalker/wolf = damage
pig = decent tank and DD
bear = tank
lizard = speed attacks
spider = pois.

He slowly grew over time and levels - at first it is hard to notice, but once I got him up around 17th or 18th level I realized he was huuuuge. I thought maybe I was mistaken, so I took him back to Yak's Bend to compare - and like I said, those wild wolves there are puny compared to him.
Also noticed it with the bear - my buddy got a bear like last weekend, and at first my wolf was bigger than the bear. The bear has caught up and now I think it is bigger than the wolf.

what pet would be the best tank, except bears?

I got a stalker when she was level 5, she's now level 19, she's almost twice as big as when I got her. One of my guild mates has a strider that gotten huge! It seems the pets do get bigger the higher the level, it doesn't happen all at once but slowly, in fact it took a while to register that they had gotten bigger.
Leventh
i cannot confirm this about the bear.. as i found him to be fat, slow, and useless.. as far as the wolf i had one from level 5 to 15 and noticed no change in size.
edit: if these pets do indeed grow please try and send me a pict. compare to a normal size animal leventh[at]L2unforgiven[dot]com.
p.s. wanna buy some thunderstones?

Yes, animals gain health and grow. I haven't finished testing yet, but melandru's stalker at least seems to have health exactly the same as a character of that level (80+20*level). My wolf (from pre searing) is only level 12 but it's already looking pretty big, hopefully it'll get as big as that one in the photo... I'll hopefully get a chance to try all animals and figure out their damage and AL. Stalkers seem to have a 2 second attack period, though it's hard to tell if it's exactly 2, might be a bit less.
And I had no issues catching a pre-searing wolf. Bears though, I have yet to catch.

You can easily tame wolves in pre-searing just outside the Abbey no different than getting a stalker. One problem, you will have to give the wolf up post-searing if you want the Hunter's Shot skill...
Pet's get noticibly larger when they increase in level, a guildmate has a moa bird and the thing is huge...

Pets get bigger?! My lv 7 ranger has a giant crazy chicken (lv 6) that's already 2 feet taller than him! (ranger created at medium height) That bird is going to be INSANE HUGE!

I heard that pets change depending on how you use them. Ones that are used to attack a lot will become Dire, which means they do more damage. The ones that act as tanks or die a lot will become Hearty (which I assume means either better def or more health).
I had named my pet G I R, but one day I logged on and he was named Hearty Wolf. He was also bigger than before. I assume when they get one of those special conditions they will also grow in size. I don't think it happened at a level gain, but I wasn't really paying attention. Happened around level 13 or 14 I think.
That's just what I heard at least. I really don't know as much about pets as I'd like to. Wouldn't mind finding out actual stats on each pet. I know there are differences between them, but just how much? And for some reason, I can't name my pet G I R anymore

I like how my wolf howls randomly... there have been some pretty amusing cutscenes with the wolf walking up and howling in the face of whatever NPC is yammering on at the time LOL.

So, the Strider/ Moa Bird is overall, a good pet.
Just the sound that makes them sound weak?

You have to use Otyugh's up in the Ice caves area for fun, it's great to get a whole pack of wolves going at the Minotaurs. Not very useful, but makes for nice photos. And all the howling afterward...

you know, i thought my wolf had grown, i just figured i imagined it, but i got it at level 2 and now it is level 17, i renamed it though and its name never changed after that for me, whats this thunderstone thing by the way, sounds like someone making stuff up to me, can anyone come up with some proof otherwise?

That is very cool that pets grow, I did know this! I am liking the Stalker from pre-searing, we've leveled together and I'm sentimental already!
If I were to tame a new pet now (post searing, I'm just a lowly 9 but still..hehe) would it be at my level or would he have to be trained back up to level 9 from level 1?
Also, we can name pets, another thing I did not know, how so?
Forgive all the questions, I'm pretty new.

To name your pet, use either /namepet or /petname, followed by the name you want to give it.

Most pet in pre-searing are lv2, except the stalker...
post-searing pet are all lv5... with the exception of verteran pve
pet damage are pretty much completely rely on BM attribute... some pet like the bear got their own attack skill without the owner using it.

Later, when I started through the jungle areas and I got a look at the other pigs, the size difference was enormous. My animal was at least double their size. Pets must get larger with level. Or maybe with mastery...I don't know.

I may be wrong about growing, it might be that they just made all the models bigger but the bird is twice as tall as my monk (he is as small as a male monk can be) Sorry I don't have a screenshot I'll try to take one next to a large male warrior...

So does the bear gets easier to charm with a higher Beast Mastery Skill level?
