If i add some upgrade component onto a GOLD weapon
will that weapon still be GOLD ?

Yes, It should stay gold, ( 90% sure).

But it would replace the old upgrade component, if it had one.

It will remain gold.

I've added upgrades to blue and purple weapons -- they didn't change color. No reason to think that yellow would behave differently

are you 100 percent sure of this?
i added a fire upgrade to my bow then later added a grip upgrade and both upgrades took fine. the name of the bow changed to somthing i cant remember at the moment but it is still a fire damage bow. it was my thinking so long as the upgrade is not of the same kind it would stick. a string upgrade and a grip upgrade both stayed for me?!?!

If it's gold, it will stay gold, no matter how many upgrade components you slam into it.
