You may have droks, but do you have citadel/grotto armor, my ranger girl has 3 (and she looks HOT in her druids armor), and of course there is uber elite Fissure of Woe.
You want a challenge, try killing a level 28 Titan or lvl 30 Glint!
Did you get that rockscale out side of Bathazar's Temple, did you avenge the death of Prince Ruik? Have you seen the White Mantle's Unseen Gods?
Do you have a shocking plasma blade, or the fiery flame splitter axe?
How much of the map have you uncovered?
Have you fullfilled the "Flameseeker Prophecy"?
Have you figured out who the chosen are, and what the White Mantle do with them?
Have you solved the Mystery of the Undead Lich?

MY IDEA OF A FUN GAME IS TO GRIND TO THE HIGHEST LEVEL FOR TWO YEARS STRAIGHT SACRAFICING MY SOCIAL LIFE AND SCHOOL WORK TO OBTAIN POINTLESS ITEMS AND ARMORS TO SIGNIFY MY ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO PROVE I AM AWESOME! BECAUSE I HAVE THESE ITEMS, I AM BETTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE!

to the OP, you are far from done.
Even after ascension, still far from done.
Even after Hells Precipe, there are still countless things to do.
It looks like you were run, and you missed alot of the learning curve. Every region has types of damage and skills the mobs use against you. There are counter skills for those regions.
I have fun trying to solo the big bad mobs. I can take more than 2 enemies on. I wont brag.
I have 4 of the 6 main professions done at LVL 20 spanning 3 accounts.
Only 2 of these, my monk and tank, have unlocked almost all the secondary profession skills. I still have to get a few more elites as well. I've run out of skill points just by purchasing cap sigs. By doing this, I can play any build necessary for that region.
As far as weapons, again i have situational weapons for regions and builds.
15^50, 15% enchanted, 15% stance, not even counting the different weapon types such as bow, axe, sword and thier types of damage (fire, ice, etc. I have almost all the green weapons, minus the elusive tarnok bows and rago flame staff.) I wont claim to have the best weapons.
For my ranger, I carry 13 bows including both dragos, boulderbeards, elswths, horns, storms, and i still dont have the best bows. maybe i have some of them.
Then i had to make a sexy female ranger just for the druids armor =D

i think what people are missing is that he/she plays only for tangible rewards.
making the character visably higher in status (showoff armor/weapon/etc) or higher level count to prove how elite they are levelwise compared to someone starting.
if you cant keep making visable improvement by grinding there is truly no point in going on with a game.
the next chapter will have the same caps so dont even think of getting that.

Wow, talk about missing the point.
Games are meant to be played because they're *fun*.
I'd recommend moving on to PvP, but you don't really "gain anything" there, and you seem unable to enjoy anything where you don't get some kind of "reward", so, uhm...maybe you should just uninstall and try WoW? Maybe try GW again in a few years once your mind has opened just a tad?

The point of the game isn't to hit level 99, its to beat the storyline. Also, after you hit level 20 doesn't mean your attribute points are 'locked'. Did you ascend and do the two attribute point quests?
I don't see the connection between the game being boring and lack of character leveling. Sure, your character doesn't advance, but you do. Even after you have beaten the game, there is still so much to learn about game mechanics.
I'd rather gain intelligence for myself then some 7 inch tall, 128 bit man.

After you get level 20 you still have elite skills and then items and soon more money for items.

You play PvE for the fun and challenge. Also the learning in PvE for PvP is more about learning the skills and what they do as opposed to the strategies. PvE doesnt really teach you any pvp strategies but you still can learn what all the skills do. You can learn the skills just by pvping but will be longer with nothing unlocked and being killed so fast you dont know what hit you.
So basically like someone else said, finish the game, pvp or get a new game. If you do finish the game, do it again with a new profession. Learning the different professions and what they do is really beneficial to your group.

I see that Dario D. hasn't replied in a while. Thus, I'm going to assume that he's given up on the game and this topic in favor of some other game. I'd have recomended Ragnarok Online to him, or asked him to send me his account info. Ah well, too late, no use in crying into my beer over it.
Well, I'm off to help people fight off hordes for the Defend North Kryta quest. 'Cause it's fun. And people are getting desperate, due to the quitters

I would like to ask if you beat Hells Precipce(sp)mission if you have Barrage you obviously capped it from Markis in the Iron Mines mission. Then you got to Thunderhead keep and did that mission moving on to the Fire Island missions if you have done them all. What this means is you still haven't gotten all your attribute points and the chance to to change you secoundary.I have seen others that have elites from the Fire Island missions that haven't ascended yet which kind of ruins the story line for you if this is your first charactor.if you played the game right you would of found it a lot different there is still lots you can do have any greens yet. There are some great bows in Sorrows Furnace that I would like to get.
I would go and get asended as well if you aren't already.

I think his argument is that because he has the best equipment for his class and his personal "best" skill set, there is no need to play another class or farm to get gold/items. Switching to another class or working to get a better weapon would be useless to him because he doesn't need to kill monsters anymore. So basically, PvE has nothing else to offer him since he's already mastered (apparently) the Ranger/Monk class.

Guild Wars isn't a very good game as far as objective (or "grind" as some biased individuals may call it) goals go. I don't like being required to perform a simple task for hours and hours for one level, especially not fighting monsters for a week, 5 hours a day to level up once.
However, there's nothing like blacksmithing or material crafting for players in Guild Wars: trainable professions that let you interact with other players. So, that's a weak point. Level 20 is basically the end credits of Guild Wars player development. The only thing you're left to do is finish the weak storyline, or go get more skills, if you actually like grinding skill points, which is debatedly even worse than grinding XP in other games.
First person shooters are fun in their repetition due to their dynamics. Twitch shooters excluded, FPSs never play exactly the same each time. The only similarities in each game are the tools you use and how you choose to use them.
In Guild Wars, you're free to make any skillbar, although by their nature some cannot work with others, or some just genuinely work very well together, so you really don't have many options, honestly.
The only real dynamics to be found in Guild Wars is PvP, and that's more with team builds. Your own skillbar really doesn't matter, since it'll most likely look somewhat like the other 100,000 W/Rs or whatever out there. What matters is how your team is organized.
So, that's basically all that's left for you. PvP. And with that, pick up groups in PvP are boring since if they lose, they disband quickly, and there's little cooperation.
So really, the only thing left for you, REALLY, is GvG. But even then you'll have to deal with either being in a low population Guild that never does anything together, just complains and wants you to do stuff fo them, or a high population Guild that demands your free time and self-sacrifice (and teamspeak and a microphone), amongst other things.

I can understand the OP's disillusionment with the game, although I don't subscribe to it myself - what makes an online RPG enjoyable for him is apparently tangible reward/character upgrades rather than the personal satisfaction that other players feel by overcoming the unique challenge presented by Guild Wars PvE. I think that's fair enough. But the OP sort of did himself in by skipping half (or even most?) of the game content to gain access to the ultimate rewards/upgrades that much quicker. In this sense, by embarking on this course of gameplay, yes, the game can fall apart at around level 20 if the southern Shiverpeaks rewards are the player's singular goal. However, that's a choice made by the player at Beacon's Perch.

It would only benefit me if I played this game just to watch monsters die... when infact, I only like to watch them die if I get reward from it. Having a better build after 20 would only be for the purpose of amusing yourself with your ability to kill better... there wouldnt be any other reason, because the monsters dont give you anything. By the way, I study the skills very carefully (I even have the ranger's Barrage elite skill...) and have already bought 5 or 6 spells that I could actually use (60% of the skills are useless anyway). There arent any other ones that I need, and if I do, I can buy them with one of my 17 leftover points. No worries there... I understand that the rest of the game is only for adjusting your builds (apparently just to kill monsters faster, with no reward whatsoever for a character like mine, since I cant use anything they drop at that point, and I dont need their XP anymore) You have to understand that Ive lost all motivation to play this game anymore, for reasons clearly stated (I thought) above. Ive spent weeks playing this game, studying it carefully, and planning my course of action for days in advance before setting out to do things, and go after certain Elite skills (Barrage), charm a rare pet (Lvl 15 wolf), etc. ...but now that I've reached the top, the only reason to continue would be to play with builds, and not a thing more (which makes playing with builds useless to someone like me). If there is rememdy for my situation, someone please tell me what it is (!) Problem: Ranger/Mo + max armor + max weapon + max attribute points + best skills + 17 leftover skill points + only halway through game = no reason to collect money for armor/weapons/inventory = no reason to do quests for XP/attribute points/skill points = no reason to fight monsters because XP wont give me anything I dont have already = no reason to do ANYTHING = BOOOOOORING!!!! Solution: Amuse myself with new builds for rest of game? So that I can get better XP that I cant use? |
If your only motivation is mindless grinding to gain levels, then Guild Wars isn't for you. Go play WoW if you want that type of stuff.
You must be pretty narrow-minded if you think that most of the skills are garbage and that you have the "best" weapon, because there aren't any skills or weapons that are the "best" in the game. I can think of countless builds for just my ranger alone.
And if your only reason to play games is to see stuff die, you need some help.

at level 20, the game is just beginning. I see the leveling up time as kind of a hastle personally. Once you are at level 20, finished the two 15-attribute point quests and have most, if not all, of you primary and secondary skills, and collector or better items, you are finnaly ready to see what your character can do.
You may have ruined your experience by having someone run you to get the best armor, Barrage, and such. If you had just played through all the quests in the normal order instead of skipping past everything, you may have enjoyed the experience a bit more. You still have several quests to go through, and the FoW/UW/Tombs. there are also other professions, PvP and the like.
This game is about player skill, not character stats/equipment.

The truth of the matter is the game is much more then grinding. otherwise why would Anet provide EVERYONE a way to get a max level / attrib character right out of the box??? I would think this to be obvious to anyone with a single brain cell...
If you don't like it, well not every game will please everyone. Just can't happen. its a shame that your life is so shallow that your only goal in life is to be "Better" then everyone else through worthless farming. Its about the skills, not the goodies... Sure sometimes a particular goodie is ok for a while, but eventually everything in the game gets replaced by something else. AKA build of the month variations...
Personally I am looking forward to all the skill points I have amassed for unlocking of new professions skills and weapons / runes in Factions... For one sole reason... to add to my skill options for PvP builds ASAP...
PvP is either where you start out, or end up. Its the copulation of all things GW as it stands today... However with the new faction / alliance system I feel this will change. This is Arenanets way of bringing the game world together for mutual benefits... From what little we have seen so far. I think people like your self will like very little in the new versions, as its more about teamwork and alliance cooperation, then the lone wolf aspect you seem to appreciate. So for you. Basically save yourself the ongoing frustration and go back to a game like EQ2 or worse Galaxies... which you style of game play is Blatant... And thus is a dying bread... Why yous ask? ahh young one. because there is no chance of equality with new players coming into a game... Those that play longest will always be the best at anything. Thus, Why buy the game? with your mentality that is...
Your only chance of achieving what you want is to get in on ground floor and out grind everyone forever... If I might make a suggestion. try Tabula Rasa http://www.playtr.com/index.html also from NCSoft and Arenanet. Its subscription based and still in beta... But its everything a mentality like yourself wants in a game. Grind to your hearts content...

maybe you should buy some1's account on ebay so you don't need to finish the game by yourself ever !!

I ascended my first character, a mesmer, back in September. I still play the same one to this day. Since then I've made other PVE characters, some have stayed, others went into the digital dustbin. Why? Because I have fun experimenting with the different skill/profession combos in both PVE and occasional PVP. Furthermore, I enjoy hanging out online, socializing with people. About 3/4s of the players on my friends list are active almost every night (and my f-list is nearly full, btw). I can't wait for an in-game mail system so I don't get flooded with PMs every single time the moment I log in.
From what I can glean from the OP's post is he doesn't want to experiment, he doesn't want to try something new. And maybe he doesn't bother socializing with people. He thinks he's got the best of everything, and he's bored. Well, who's fault is that?

I actually understand what the OP is saying. i stopped playing for a little while after i got to fire island. i tried PVP but that didnt really appeal to me. it takes awhile to get a good amount of faction to get any rewards. I dont mind that at all. Problem i have with it is if i spend all that time gaining that faction then why cant my PVE character use the upgrades and scrolls i buy. another thing i dont like that much is the lack of individuality. I would like to find some nice looking weapons that not everyone has. like i said i havent gotten past fire island so if there are some weapons with cool skins just let me know? The rewards for PVP to me are minimal for a PVP based game. i dont want some "uber" weapons that can 1 hit kill everything. i just want something that will set me apart from others who have not put in their time to PVP. also as far as the lvl cap goes i dont really care one way or the other. if you reached 20 later in the campaign then many ppl wouldnt think the lvl cap is too low. if your lvl would raise every time you lvled up i think that would be nice. im not saying getting more att points but just a number next to your name. at least seeing my lvl rise would give me a bigger sense of accomplishment then just getting a skill point. i have yet to finish the game so if there are bigger and better items for me to go after later in the game then just let me know.

That'd be rather daunting though, going up against a like level 300. Not that the stats would be any different, but it'd be funny.

I loved playing Diablo II hardcore before and in the early days of the expansion. The reward? Being high level playing the same character for almost a months time without dying once, ranked on a ladder, etc.
Then shortly after the expansion things went haywire *MOO* and the game was far easier.
