Should I Keep Making a 55 Monk?

Ive been reading about the "nerfing" of the Griffons, and i was wondering, isnt the 55 monk primarily used for UW smite runs? (im not sure, cause im in the process of making one.) Another question, with everyone up in arms about the update, will finishing my 55 Monk be worth it, even though the griffons are gone? (im in the process of buying the last 3 sup runes). And my last question, do you recommend getting a set of LA tats for putting Sup runes on, and getting Droks Monk armor for other playing, or just geting a set of Droks with sup runes?

thanks,

P.S- im new at this so plz dont flame me and call me a noob.

i suggest you get LA tats for your first 55.

you go to UW, make some cash, and buy regular drok tats with minor runes for regular playing.

you make more cash and youlll be more flexible with it.

let me just say that griffs are the training ground for 55-ers, after you do it for a while, you move on to bigger and better things, just get someone to PATIENTLY train you for UW and youll be better off.

Most people start at griffons then when they get good at it, they do UW Smite runs with a Necro partner.

Yes, making a 55 monk is worth it. (I made back the money that i lost making the monk within the next two days).

I'd go with the set of LA tats and get the Droks armor for other builds.

Just on a side note, If you are having a hard time training yourself to be a better 55 monk (when you start), since griffons are gone, I would suggest that you do my Sand Elementals 55 Farming in my "New Age Farming" post. It's easy, fast, they knock you down so you learn some timing. If you find that not as profitable, I'd say farm the griffons outside of dunes. If you have any more questions just give me a PM i'll be glad to help.

Solo-farming likely won't be nerfed again in the near future, so it might be safe to make a 55er. But, if you don't want to spend the cash, you can use this build that I have been using :http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=124439
It's good for desert farming and some south shiv farming, but not much beyond that. Im using it to save up for my 55er.

If you have a little extra starting money, I actually suggest getting the superior runes on droknar's armor and matching up the rune locations with your minors (if chest is minor healing, than superior healing should go on the chest). There should be one overlapping piece where your vigor usually would be, so that can be the cheaper armor (from LA usually).
With that, you can have a normal healing, prot, or smite monk with superior runes without spending more money for another rune (or gamble salvage and craft droknar's anyway, wasting the LA craft).

First of all, there's absolutely no reason to use Droks tats for a 55er. Even the insanely rich don't bother; it's too much hasle to collect all the "stuff" to do it. There's zero energy difference and the defense does zippo for your 55'er. You will be taking "5" damage no matter which armor you're using.

Droks 55'ers and 15k 55's are for "asthetics" only...

For a starter 55, save the several plat that it will cost you, including materials for the drok stuff and stick to lion's arch tats. Cheap and perfect. You will need to save every single plat you can get for those runes, which are mighty expensive.

Note: Sometimes, a 55 monk is too expensive to start. And so, some people make 55 necro/monks. Their superior runes are much cheaper and they too have tats. You can then work out a lesser build, based on the monk for the healing and mana generation, but also, using the necro's spiteful spirit to deal the damage. This is a great alternative if you're looking to start farming with 55 now, instead of waiting until you can afford the 55 monk who needs the works in order to make it in UW.

I'd go for the cheap 55 starter; otherwise, consider a cheap necro 55'er. I'm sure someone can help you with it on the Necro board.

Cheers!

The 55monk has been around since July/August; and even after all the "nerfs," it isn't going away. So yes it's a safe bet to continue on one. And, just because Griffon runs are gone doesn't mean all the griffons in the desert are as well.

Most if not all I-monks use a separate set for their 55 gear, so there's no reason not to use cheap LA Tattoos since AL won't matter. Unless you wanna look good while farming... =/

For training grounds, I'd recommend the Minotaurs in Elona Reach. They were my training grounds when I was preparing for Aatxes.

I would suggest that you play atleast 100 hours actually monking before considering making a 55. That way just incase they nerf the 55 build at some point in the future, you dont have a useless char.

With the current situation I would say that the 55 build is still profitable, so its worth it if you need some money between now and the factions release.

Well when I'm playing as a regular healing monk with a superior rune I certainly don't want to have a chest piece with half the armor of what I could have. My post was for people who use their monks as 55s sometimes and normal smiting/prot/heal monk the other times. The difference in price and materials between LA/Drok's armors are so much less than the cost of 2 superior runes.
Hope that clears things up or I'm just an idiot.

I do the same thing. It's more of an investment to buy Drok's tats, but then they become multipurpose rather than purely for farming.

I started farming hydra(augury) with major runes about 180hp takes time and patience as you cant take on more than 2 or 3, and actually when i had enuff $$ to get dwn to 105 i considered not buying the rest of the sups cause i could farm without much probs at 105.......but the 55 w/ the sups makes it MUCH easier. doing the hydras i averaged 5.5-7k per run in about an hour. my monk now has 2 sets of droks arm' 1 for farm, 1 for not farm. so far theres no nerfin there............ Good Luck to you

Good thinking on LA tats, never thought of that, and yes, it should be worth making, its still profitable and am sure it will be for a long time, and even if they nerf it next week... you still should have had some fun, made some money, and had some good expiriances, I try to do everything just in case its not possible in the future, so I can look back and say I did at one point.
