Ouch... sold rubies to the merchant
Dav85
My bad i was selling shitty drops to the trader and before i realized i was lagging i sold by mistake a lot of things... i saved my sapphires but rubies were gone.
let u do the math as it hurts...
the trader gave me nearly 37500 gold
best part is that if i had 2500 more gold on me i wouldn't have had enough room to sell rubies.
allow anyone to /point and /laugh at me
edit: sry i edited after a mod edited me i had to correct a typo

I use my holiday items as "blockers" to keep me from inadvertently selling my important items should they be on the first inventory screen. The rest, I usually keep checked off on merch screens so I don't accidentally sell my gear. ><

um you can lock bags you know?
just above the items there's your bags with ticks over them, if you click on a tick they will no longer be visible in the sell.

You can also use a 'quest item' to block item sellling. Quest items can't be sold so you can save your good items this way.

My sympathies! I once sold a red dye by mistake in sort of the same way.
Sorry, but as an addicted player who plays GW for fun just about every night, I just have to say that I am amazed totally that you had so many rubies to sell in the first place. Like, in all my time playing I and my party members have found total about 5 ruby and sapphire drops! So you must be doing a heck of a lot of hours farming!

I felt like a fool to before. i had 4 ectos, sold them withourt looking. Now I use a candy cain shard to seperate the others.

I keep all my valuables in storage. I always visit storage after a run before I go to the merchant to drop off anything good I may have picked up. I know, a lot of people's storage is full though. I usually don't hang on to stuff for long, so I almost always have room in storage for my high end items.

all the ectos and gems i have come from selling hoh rewards. a single lucky drop can worth 500rubies easily. ask anyone that plays hoh.
i used the word "lucky" with the meaning of "once in a lifetime"... i recently got a 15^50 dwarven axe. 70% of my richness come from that drop

That and storage, most things that I am going to not use for a bit, like crafting material, I keep in there.

i also sell only out of my backpack and leave the belt pouch/bags unchecked.
when i sell i have to actually move anything out of the bags to the backpack to make a sale.
it takes a bit more time and effort but i have never sold a single item by accident after doing this
Sir Skullcrasher
I used my halloween items and holiday items as blocker for all my precious weapons and items. And i usually double check the items that i'm merchanting off.
St0rM
Ouch dude that must of hurt badly,i dont rly use anything as a blocker just dont click sell so quickly and look at what ur selling before clicking thats wat i normally do.
Darkaan
I have in each of my inventories a Gwen-quest-item (e.g. Gwen's flute) so I can't sell my important items like weapons, dyes or rare materials.
Diablo???
Accidentally sold a stack of dyes, but they were just purples so it was ok...

The stupidest thing I ever sold to the merchant was "only" a superior divine favor rune...
Oh, and this one time, I sold my shirt. But that wasn't much of a financial loss... only 3k (or so) to replace it, materials, crafting, rune, go for an infusion run, poof.

Ouch!
I've had my accidents too, but I find the following works pretty well for me:
Things I use in the bottom bags.
Stacks of collectibles and craft items in the next bag and the belt pouch. Ditto candy canes and anything else I'm saving.
Stuff for the merchant in the backpack.
Key points:
Have the full inventory screen up when merchanting.
ONLY sell to the merchant from the backpack. If I have more stuff for him, I move it to the backpack first. This safeguard step is a GOOD thing.
All that said -- did those rubies really go to the merchant, or to the rare material trader? Because if it's the merchant, I have trouble understanding how you got anything for them at all ...

Where would someone go to get ruby drops anyways? ive never even seen someone with them. Same as sapphires what is the use for them and where could i go to get them?

Since I can...

I did the same thing with my Monks max damage gold staff! I was selling a few aquired items in Augry when without warning I got a bit of lag and the bloody thing registered two clicks!
At least I have 'Wenslauss' Faith' so it negates the old gold staff. Although I'd like to have it back just for resale value.

I've done that before, but I don't remember what it was with though. Since then I lock everything in inventory except my belt pouch. I only sell stuff through the pouch and haven't had a mistake since then.
Another time I also accidentally salvaged a pretty nice gold axe because of lag and I thought I was salvaging something else. Now that one made me pretty dang upset.

Get a quest Item like a letter or something and use it as a blocker. I sold some stuff by accident too. I've used that method an never ran into it again.
Tortoise
Ah well, I accidently sold my +20% enchant HoD sword three days after they were taken out of the game. Not as bad as the rubies but I guess it warrants a second place on the 'sucker'-list. It sucked back then but at least I can get a good laugh out of people nowadays!
tuperwho
I did that with a piece of my 55 armor. Good thing I'm a me/mo.... about 2k, and I was back in business

to sell 124rubies to the rare material trader i should have been really crazy... i can sell one to him by mistake, but after the first click i realize and stop selling... the problem with the merchant is that after the first click they were all gone

i'm not bankrupt... but i lost a decent % amount of my savings. and i learned how to block bags. i just unchecked the green "V" as someone suggested here and it works perfectly. i keep all the stuff i'm not supposed to sell in the same bag, and the merchant doesn't even see that bag now
Banebow
Ah, how I wish for a "buyback" function like they have in WoW. . .
Sorry for your loss, I tend to keep my valuables in the storage to avoid such mistakes.

You get about 1 sapphire every 10-15 UW smite runs
chiyu
Yeah most decent games come with a buy back function, even if you pay twice the amount, it's worth it....I"m usually carefull to seperate the bags with items, however this time I happen to not have my belt hidden, and double clicked on the last item for the back pack... bye bye, morgriffs staff. (cries out in lost frustrations as there are no places to leave suggestions)PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. IT would be so easy to just put a buy back button in the programming, you can spend time nerfing everything in the book but you can't take 30 mins to put a buy back button in... jeez.
