Somewhere on Earth (I think)

OoM

Mo/

Im having a problem connecting/loading up Guild Wars on my wireless laptop, it just stays at 0% .. It has worked before, around 4 months

Now, I know it's not Windows Firewall or Virus Software as ive checked them (turning them off and allowing GW through etc). I have also checked the router.
I have also tested it on my Desktop PC (also wireless) and Guild Wars works on there :s

So im completely stumped.

Im not sure why my Laptop has suddenly stopped working and my desktop PC hasn't done the same.

Can anyone offer any advice on how to proceed/overcome this problem?

Thanks in advance.

Try the Guild Wars client from the Website.

Makko, what the...

You tried your account on your Guild friends Machine and it worked perfectly, therefore you think the problem is with ANet/NCSoft?

Dude, that means it's something wrong with YOUR computer...

Hey,

Thnx for feedback. I think i'll make my problem more clearer

I run Guild Wars, but it never get's to the login screen. Just stays with that updater window at 0%.

Ive taken the laptop to a friends house and it works there :s
My wireless PC works at my house, but my wireless laptop doesn't.

I came to the conclusion that maybe my router had blocked GW from playing from my laptop but everything checks out ok.
Checked all over my laptop to see if it's stopping it over my network etc .. Nothing

Im still stumped

If anyone has anymore suggestions please post

Well today...it took along time to "load". It must have been a large update. I have a 6mbs ISP connection too.

Using notebooks on soft, plush surfaces is often considered to be not a great idea. Most notebooks have their ventilation by fans on the bottom of the notebook and the rubber feat keep enough space between the bottom of the notebook and the surface it is on for air to flow. Blocking said airflow could result in over heating issues.

And on a different matter. The base update was around 19MBs. The content one could download at the login screen was far larger though I'm not sure of the final size. No matter how fast one's internet connection is if you are downloading from a source that is on (for example) a 56K connection, then you won't get that data any faster than 56K. Not to mention all the possible bottlenecks between source and destination; the routers on the internet.

:s
Read that a few times. Sorta got some of it
Ill write a response

Don't worry about my heatness I have a nice surface to allow the laptop to breathe It also has fan openings no the sides too

Anyway, as I said before it was 15 mins apart today from when I was at my friends house and it worked perfectly (all updates done etc). Got home and it stuck at 0% connecting (all started from a few days ago).
I decided then to load my Desktop Wireless PC, connected to ANet and downloaded updates etc .. Up to the same point as my laptop.
My Desktop PC works fine but it's not as good/fast/smooth as my laptop. Hence why im hoping anyone can help

I am on 512k Broadband, but as I said my whole house is wireless and my Desktop PC loads/plays GW fine and my laptop did about 3-5 days ago, but now doesn't.

I was thinking just that while reading his post. My Son at college was telling me his laptop kept shutting down on him and I asked him about the air flow....that was it. He was laying down on the sofa with it in his lap on a blanket. hehe... I have a real old laptop that still is good for internet and it's fans are on the side of it....excellent for actual LAPS!

That's what I thought too...I noticed it was about 56k. *sigh*
