Hey guys.
I usally play ranger or warrior (deleted) as I know I can do combat. Now magic will be new to me. I dont want to do cookie builds or the samething everybody else is doing. So I was thinkin Mes or Nec and I said hey why not do both.
So Id love to do a Me/N build
I chose Me as my primary for fastcsting since the necro uses spells too. Id like my build to do energy degen and health degen at the same time. this could totally screw with people and monsters. Id love any advice on the build and playing casters in general.

Degen (both types) generally only work in PvP.
As for a build, this should suffice.

You'd probably want to take something out for an energy management skill however.

Degen works in PVE, but not alone. You cant go straight degen in PVE. You have to pair it with spells that cause damage along side of it. Like putting Conjure Phantasm, Life Siphon and then Empathy on someone. Health is degenerating while you are causing excess damage. And if you attack with your weapon while all this is going on, the damage works to your advantage in a very short ammount of time.
Always remember with Degen/damage builds in PVE, it works best if the damage you're doing is armor ignoring.

Well I could go with E for air/earth magic to ignore armor and all those nice glphs that make magic cheap.
Im starting another thread but I started my mes yseterday. Level 3 with all skils
Empathy- OMG i love this hex spell. It wil be a key spell now.
Imagne burden- ANother great spell especially vs melee beast as it gives me time to cast...
Conjure phantasm- another great key spell especially for early o
Backfire- great for spell casters and is up to 49 damage
Shatter- I think is what its called. Gets rid of Hex and does damage. Not that great usually use with backfire.
I may change my build as the who degen thing was pure reading and speculation.
Oh and Mesmers are fun!

You can use it to Shatter Backfire but I would suggest you time it so that you shatter right before Backfire ends. Otherwise, you just removed a hex with a great damage potential against spell spamming Monsters, like those silly Flare-spamming Charrs

If you really want, you could go Blood instead of curses, with Life Siphon and Life Transfer. But then you'd won't really be able to take any energy degen, though your self healing (with Transfer) and health degen skills improve substantially. HOWEVER, you need to remember that degen caps at 10 pips, so I'd prefer Curses.
