Best Buy Preorder - question:
Lord Iowerth
Beat me with the "noob" stick here, but am I missing something?
I went by Best Buy earlier and bought my Factions preorder box (sorry Inde, i had a gift card from christmas ) and it was only $10 and some change ... I inquired: "Why so cheap?" the response: "Well, you just come back and pay for the full version when it comes in and you pick it up ..."
Ok, makes sense ...
But I open my preorder package, and there's a "Preorder key" in there ... which i'm assuming can be added to my account ... is this key not the actual "Game" key? In other words, did I just get Factions for $10? Surely they can't be that dense ...
Anyone have any insight?
P.S. - Funny side-note: I inquired about a Collector's Edition, and the first thing the sales rep asked was "Are you collecting these?"

Best Buy stores do get stuff much quicker than other stores.
I went to Gamestop today, Sale req said" they havent sent anything in yet, They may send pre-order package at the end of March". I figure buddy key for 03/24 event gonna be useless in this case. sorry for offtopic.
back to your topic, You didnt get faction for $10. You got pre-order key for $10.
BTW, Did they promise you that you would get $10 back when you come back to pay for the full version?

I got my pre-order from Game-Stop. I went to Best Buy first and they had it, but they didn't have any knowledge about how pre-ordering should work. Thats why I went to Game-Stop, and luckily they had it also. The majority of the employees at Game-Stop or EB Games are gamers themselves so it's easier to deal with them.

OP, Nope - You still have to buy the full game when it comes out.
I also bought it from BB. By having that key you get two pre-order items and as the ability to play the game 1 day before anyone else (assuming you get the full verison of the game).
It's when you get a copy for free (such as Gamestop or EB Games) for putting a pre-order in and they pay the full price of GWF.

The way it works at BB is you first pay $10 for the pre-order kit. Then, when Factions is released, you go back to BB with your receipt showing that you payed $10 for the Factions pre-order kit, and they knock off $10 from the Factions retail kit. You end up paying the same amount as everyone else, you're just putting $10 down in advance and getting a pre-order kit for your trouble.
Whatever you do, don't throw away the receipt from your pre-order kit!

Ouch, I never knew that, I lost 10 on GuildWars (c1) that way.

ya i keep mine in the pre-order box till the game comes out in april

if you purchased with a check or credit card, they can search the database for the transaction and reprint the receipt. otherwise, you are pretty much SOL without one.
sartori
so you dont use the pre-order key that comes in the box until factions actually comes out? or is there some way to just link up my accounts now that im not seeing?
Bgnome
you can use the factions preorder key to either establish a new account, which will be playable on the preview weekend and the day before release, or you can link it to your existing account by using the account tab on the login page ingame. either way, you should be able to input the preorder code now.

Interesting ... thanks for the well-informed replies! How about a followup question: can the preorder box, and subsequent receipt, be used to purchase the collector's edition?
Kill two birds with one stone? In-game item key from preorder + whatever shiny stuff comes with the CE for Factions.

I'm still lost on the pre-order key.
Once I plug that key in, and I get the special items, then I purchase the actual game, which I asume has another key, am I also going to link that to my game too?
Does it have allowances for a pre-order key and then game key?

Yeah you can just add the factions key as well as the pre order key.

I'm pretty sure you should be able to do that too Lord Iowerth. I was wondering what the pre-order kit was. So now I have a question. Since it's just a pre-order kit key, could i use that same key on the 2 accounts i have? and then just use the reciept on one game, and purchase the other game separately? (I have 2 computers with an account set up on each one.)

I may pre-order the CE this time to make sure I get one. That wasn't a problem last year, I was able to pick one up at release and the CE remained in stock at the local BB for quite a while. But this year...I'm afraid if I'm not quick, the CE will be sold out fast...
