Our guild has been trying out new ways to make an interrupter. This build is quite good at annoying the enemy monks and spreading poison around(I like sharing!).
This is Version 1.1(1.0 used epidemic, not as useful as we planned)
So here is the revised build

R/Me

Posion Arrow {Elite}
Pin Down
Distracting Shot
Inspired Enchantment <--- very useful, i kept stealing their aegis and used it for us
Dual Shot
Whirling Defense <--- needed if we come up against spikers, it should buy a few extra seconds at the least. Useful all around skill imo
Savage shot
Res Sig

Optional: These ones can be switched around until we get something good going
Debilitating Shot (Monks have lower nrg generally, hard to heal without it)
Choking Gas <--- switchable with Cry of Frustration or RTW

Inspiration 8
Expertise 10
These last two are interchangeable to meet bow req
Wilderness Survival 11
Marksmanship 11

This is how it works, any bow will be fine, zealous should be useful, i found myself out of nrg every now and then. Poison arrow everything. If a warrior is coming at you or chasing down someone, Pin Down! Mostly you should be focsuing on monks, mesmers and eles, distract/savage shot as applicable. If you see the monk or w/e using an enchantment, use the inspired enchantment on him. Usually you'll get enough nrg back to use it yourself, if you need it use away(stealing healing breeze when you and the monk are low on hp is a good idea). Dual shot away. If one of those pesky monks is using mend condition to get rid of your poison, distract it and poison him for good measure.
Whirling defense should only be used when sh*t hits the fan and some warrior is coming to get some revenge, Pin Down, Poison, get some space, Inspired enchant him if he has one. When he starts swinging put up your whirling.
Against spikers, you gotta about 1-3 seconds to put that whirling up. Tried this build without it, and it wasnt pretty.
Res Sig as needed.

Well, i was in the process of posting this when my guild leader gave his thoughts on it, here they are.

Read The Wind
Dodge
Poison Arrow {Elite}
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Pin Down or Serpent's Quickness
Frozen Soil
Res Sig

Same idea as last time, use RTW before battle starts and try and keep it up, poison everything that moves. FS when something looks low on health and you dont want it standing again.

The one problem we had with it is damage output. You probably wont be able to kill a monk on your own, our team didnt deal enough damage to win the battle, keep this in mind! (It was just a really long fight trying to stay alive)

well, with that second build it seems like you're doing trying to do too much with just one character. i'd suggest maybe taking out Poison Arrow and put in Apply poison, and then replace another skill (maybe dodge or pin down) with Incendiary Arrows, which might help a little bit with interrupting...(if it wasn't a sub-par skill to begin with).

even though rangers are a jack-of-all-trades character, they're still much better when you're concentrating on one thing at a time.

Since you are so "poison-centric", why not use a poisoner's bow string instead of zealous? The 33% greater poison duration would put that much extra energy strain on their monks to heal/cure (not to mention the obvious damage increase).

I've noticed in pvp, that opposing healers tend to be quite effective at removing your hard placed poison. Poison rarely stays on the targets for more than 10 seconds, since poison arrow is already at 15~, adding another 5 seconds or so that will probably be never seen just isn't worth the potential energy gain available from the Zealous String.

The only thing i'm worried about with Incedinary arrows is that the duration is so short. 8 seconds goes by alot faster than you want. I'll take a look into this tho, the target is interrupted the whole time they are on fire correct?

Why dont you use apply poison and then take punishing shot... go wilderness/marksmanship/expertise for something exactly like this:

Ranger/X:

Marksmanship:10+1
Expertise: 10+3+1
Wilderness Survival: 10+1

Punishing Shot [e]
Distracting Shot
Savage Shot
Apply Poison
Resurrection Signet
Concussion Shot
Troll Unguent
Debilitating Shot

Its a cheaper way to poison people without the elite status, lasts around the same time and is a much smaller time investment. Punishing also hits for extra damage, and if you put duel shot in and get some orders go spikey -.-
Distract, savage and concussion are all decent interrupts, and debilitating shot adds a different dimension, should make monk killing a bit easier. Troll to help vs degen and res to instant kill people.

If you dropped Poison Arrow you could use Echo.

Echo + Debilitaing Shot is a very annoying combo.

With a shortbow and tiger's fury, you can get this down to an interrupt every 1.33 seconds. That is still enough for a well timed spell/attack or a fastcast mesmer to pull something off between your interrputs.

The only "continuous" interrupt I know of is choking gas + tiger's fury, but of course that only works for spells.

Edit: Just noticed your handle. Long live Fanelia! ;oD

I think Choking gas works like Incendiary Arrows just delayed. But I'll be honest, I need to play with that skill a bit more...

If you want to annoy people (wich it think is great fun) then you could try this build that i have been having lots of fun with lately:

Migraine (E)
Concussion shot
Savage shot
Distracting shot
Read the wind
Whirling defense
Mantra of persistence
Rez siggy

This works prety well and can be modified very easily because the two main skills are migraine and concussion shot.

This is how i do it:
1- enter arenas and cast mantra of pesistence
2- Find a caster target (usually monk)
3- Cast migrain
4- wait until they cast there next skill (usually hex removal)
5- use concussion shot on that skill
6- they are now dazed and migrained OUCH!
7- keep hitting with arrows while using interrupts to cancel skills they shouldnt use
8- when target dead find the rezzing buddy and interrupt him/her

Why use whirling defense when you can get distortion....

here's my pure (and i mean, pure) interrupt ranger:

r/mo
expertise 14
marksmanship 13/12
WS/healing 8/10
oath shot{e}
distracting shot
savage shot
concussion shot/pin down
throw dirt/apply poison/choking gas/read the winds
whirling defense/storm chaser
troll unguent/healing breeze
rez/vengence

i use this pretty much all the time because it's extremely challenging. if you time yourself well, you can pretty much keep 2-3 casters reasonably interrupted, or keep 1 target interrupted forever. i chose monk as a secondary for healing breeze and vengence, since i have the disgusting tendency to be the last one standing. so i might as well have a reusable rez and a targetable healing spell.

if any of you can use this with any success, then i am truly impressed.

(Legless) - I like the look of this one, but the only problem i can see is spreading skill points around.(looking further it may not be such a problem at all, just dump points into illusion for migraine).

Why not distortion you say? nrg is already getting to be a problem with this build, another spammable nrg sucker isnt what it needs. Sure whirling wont save you all the time, but it's not meant to. Use it when your under attack.

Here's what I've been using in the arena's lately, and finding it to be very successful:
Distracting Shot Savage Shot (when Distracting Shot is cooling down) Concussion Shot (useful against predictable monks (count to 10, fire) and elementalists) Apply Poison (my focus is interupting, not spiking, so this allows me to apply pressure without high damage) Throw Dirt (any time this is available, you better be tossing it on a warrior)
  • Troll Unguent (I went without this for a while and while I never died ALOT, I was always going down in health on monkless teams so figured I'd better make sure I have the ability to go up) Mantra of Resistance (I don't have anything better; Distortion is good but I noticed it draining my energy a bit too much sometimes -- I went with physical because of the elemental bonus) Resurrection Signet I would also like to point out that my ranger skills are up to Amnoon Oasis and my mesmer skills are up to Yak's Bend.

i've got a guide for ranger interrupts somewhere in the third page of the ranger section....

    http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...d.php?t=115544

pretty much the basics for interrupting.

    now:

    Quote:
    Migraine (E)
    Concussion shot
    Savage shot
    Distracting shot
    Read the wind
    Whirling defense
    Mantra of persistence
Rez siggy hmm...why use Migraine when you have Arcane Conundrum? it does the same thing (except for the degen), and it doesn't cost an elite slot. you could probably stick in a ranger elite that could come in handy, like Punishing Shot or another stance, like Distortion.

Why do people bother with poison arrow?? There are already enough half assed IVEX builds that bringing a poison skill would just be redundant. Instead of apply/poison arrow, bring maybe leech signet or ANYTHING other than that.

I use this in the arenas -
    Distracting
    Savage
    Concussion/Shatter Enchant
    Oath Shot {E}
    Debilitating
    Signet of Weariness
free slot (maybe I bring both concussion and shatter or whirling defense which could be kept up almost indefinitly)
    Rez sig

See how much more effective that is at stopping spells from being cast and keeping the target drained?? Poison won't eat energy as much as debil and SoW. After all, what exactly are you trying to do with your ranger/interupter/degener/trapper/antiwarrior/tank/doyougetit? Not trying to bash anyone's build in particular (except for IVEX misleading people on the TRUE purpose of a ranger, which isn't wasting an elite so you can poison someone), I'm just trying to show how much more effective it is when you concentrate completly on one purpose.

Question why Interupt when you can disable?

Typically used on casters, works best when you have a Mind Wrack mesmer backing you up.

    R/Me

    Oath Shot {E}
    Mantra of Signets
    Signet of Weariness
    Deliberating Shot
    Whirling Defence
    Troll Unguent
    Blackout
    Ressurection Signet

First, Mantra, Signet of weariness twice, Deliberating Shot, Oath Shot. Repeat. I tend to use blackout on a Bonder after the E-Denial so that there energy will hit 0 unless they remove enchants on allys.

Better than poison and most monks I've seen in random and team arenas are too stupid to swap. In real organized pvp usually theres a mesmer carrying mindwrack that backs me up to deter focus swapping.

Usually hiding behind a wall or something works well, I use it in my ranger spike build because everyone tries to run away and it only helps me kill them faster
