getting tired of flaming
Empirism
Well, I had enough on flaming in gw. Honestly there not any fun anymore if ppls can't go to practise arena without having to listen all kind of shit.
numerous times I've played in CA or Random Arena, lets say with monk. then you move circle, stay on healing range to keep your party alive facing all those warrior rangers and mindwrack mesmers. then you have to listen some
"FU noob runner", "you stupid monk" and all other crap.
to all of you PROS out there, I can say that IF I continue play this game, in Random Arena or elsewhere...I keep on moving, humanoids do not have feets without reason. and if you cant do more than flaming ppls when they learning, moving, playing, testing builds or having fun. go to play Heroes Ascent and leave us NOOBS alone

In CS people flame when you camp and stay in one spot without moving... and on this game when you move around you get flammed...
You are just tactical and people get mad because they lose. Dont sweat it.
I always take pride when people PM with flames after they got spanked in a pvp match.
Rukmedes
You get flamed for kiting? Wow. Random Arena really has turned to shit, you do things right and they call you a noob.
I wouldn't have been surprised if you said one of them had a Tiger. IWAY ftw.

people bitch about people kiting, becuase in CA [or ra now or whatever~] it's basic stuf. ivex trapper... paladin. they come in with the expectation of you standing there and letting them get a chance at beating you.

I've had my "all" channel permentantly off since November of last year. In RA I also turn my team channel off.

"You get flamed for kiting? Wow. Random Arena really has turned to shit"
indeed. and I would didn't mind if I have to see that crap, once a week, but Ive encounter that every day and Ill have to say that latest flamer was a sword wa/mo... (;
And what is alarming imo, that its not only with kite, its seem to root in attitude to anything... some first timers who are little lost, ppls do mistakes in fast action, or just your build! to name a few. It's been growing to some basic attitude there liek once was that "press alt+f4 to see fame" bs.
I really consider to get Lady_Lozza solution (sad that we had went into this)

The last time I was playing as a monk, I accidently let my warrior team mate die in the first 5 sec of the combat (he was a decent warrior). The reason being, I was expecting them to jump me first, but the opponent not only didnt... they jumped at my team mate warrior... (I was clearly in range of opponent team's warriors)!? Just so happen that team mate was one of the warrior that didn't bring 5 different self-healing skills =/ Hence, from the surprise, I wasn't able to heal in time... Still, that team mate died rather fast @_@
Oh yea, btw, that was in RA.

I play PvE mostly because I generaly cant stand some of the people in PvP. I tried PvP the other day and found a group of great guys and we helped each other as a team. I havent lost all faith yet but Im still not sure I can stomache some of the PvP people.
No offence to PvP'ers its just an observation and I dont judge when playing because you get your fair share of idiots in PvE also, but they are usualy in your team so perhaps thats the difference.

Yes, I do find it rather annoying the way people tend to insult people for doing something right especially in a place where PvP is suppose to be something of a training grounds for more organized and larger scale PvP. Something I can say of course is if worse comes to worse disable local chat if it is in local chat (yes, some people actually say something in local to someone on their own team) or try to ignore if they are doing it in team chat.
If I could give anyone any advice it would be this don't worry about people that would insult you when you are doing something right as they are every where in the game (both PvE and PvP). What I am trying to say is just don't get discouraged about this keep on fighting as every match is a learning experience. I hope that my post helps some as I have had many people like the Original Poster has mention on my team over the past time I have played in Random Arena/Competition Arena.

P.S. Sorry for any typos and misspellings that are in the post as I have a bad habit of making them ^^.

I think it comes down to the fact that PvP is the most competitive aspect of the game. As such there will naturally be people who will trash talk and act in a manner that is very different than they would with PvE.
I would like to see Anet have active moderators in the PvP zones of the game to take care of some of the stuff that goes beyond normal trash talking and psyching.
Sure if it gets out of hand there is the reporting avenue but I think there needs to be something more visable and official. Even Gaile has said that unless it is a very extreme case of racial or sexual talk that their time could be better spent rather than digging through logs for people talking.
If they just had a few people who were around to mod those areas it would make for a much more pleasant experience.

I know exactly how you feel. Flaming in general is the main reason why I avoid all forms of PvP. I've gotten it excessively in each form I have tried. In RA, it's nearly continuos. I've been called things like noob spammer for using a build centered around punishing shot, as we all know using interrupts against mesmers and monks has noob written all over it. But the flaming doesn't stop there. There is absolutely no place for newcomers in any of the higher levels of PvP. You make an attempt to try it out for the first time, the first mistake you make, wrong armor you bring in, etc... the flames start almost immediately. I recall trying HoH one time way back when I first got the game, and pretty much gave it an immediate thumbs down when I realized people expected me to come in fully on the same par with them, and when I let it be known it was my first-time, well..let's just say, I've yet to hear the word noob that many times in one session since.
Lady Frost Bite
i am a pvper and when i need faction or i'm just bored i do ra or ca, and i play a w/?(my secondary is whatever i'm in the mood for) and i have people run from me all the time. i don't like people who run cause it make them hard to kill and it takes a 5 min match to 20 or more min, but i don't flame them cause its my fault i didn't bring anything to stop them from running (which i now do) yes some runners suck cause they tease you and talk crap about you not being able to kill them. so i say, run if you want..you'll still die.
fiery
JAJAJAJAJJAJAJAJ can't stop the immature people popping in. I would say "immature kids", but I know some 20+ age people who are complete asses.
Kriel Drache
There are people everywhere who will flame. One example. I was playing as Jorin Nightstar, my Monk, and doing Oro farming despite my burning hatred of it because there was nothing better to do. Anyway, it was late and I wasn't thinking clearly and accidentally followed Orozar to the Assault of Endless Doom and Pain and thus triggered it. Needless to say, there was much of both. I said I was sorry but the Warrior in the group wouldn't let it go, flaming me in between waves of evil sadistic midgets while I was working my butt off healing him. He then took to carrying it outside of the mission and defaming my Monk, saying I didn't know how to do my job, despite hardly anyone ever dying when I'm at the reigns of healing things in missions. Dude. I get it. I made a mistake. Mistakes happen. Let it go and we can try again. That's the beautiful thing about games: you can do stuff over. Some people just can't get that.

Flaming is jsut an expression of anger, usually and so most likely the person who is flaming is angry, maybe it is his fault maybe not, freedom of speech allows this, GW isnt a dictatorship, is it?

I'm sorry to hear you've had such bad experiences with flamers and the like, Empirism. If you want to see real flaming, though, you should see the players in Lineage II. One of the worst online communities EVER. I still regret being talked into playing it by one of my friends (who, incidentally, stopped playing it two weeks after getting me to join!). 90% of the people there are powermad, powergaming freaks who will attack and kill you if you're not in their guild and just happen to be standing near to them, all for their own twisted pleasure.
I've had a much, MUCH better experience in GW. In fact, I've only encountered one or two idiots and they disappeared after a couple minutes. There are also lots more helpful players (these forums are a great representation of some of the best ) and people are actually friendly more often than not. At least, that's been my experience. Whereas in L2, unless you're decked out in some of the cooler armor, know someone in a guild, PvP like a merciless jerk, etc, you'll rarely be invited to join a guild, much less be engaged in conversation by anyone.

In the RO server im in, you cant even type words like: "Noob, nub, RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO, shit, etc" Because the game will say Rudeness is not permitted. If you spam too much, your character is silenced for 30 minutes (no typing). And in fact...you cant even start playing the game unless you answer 8 questions abuot the rules of the server (kill stealing, PK, using monster summoning items)

And more than that, the community is unhelpful, full of immature brats or closet bigots who use MMOs as their outlet to rant against anyone who isn't like them, etc, etc... I don't mind consensual PvP when it's organized and the players treat each other with a modicum of respect, but that's something you won't find in L2.

Flaming is the main reason why I venture into towns and outposts as little as humanly possible in online RPGs. I don't find Guild Wars to be quite as bad - and thank God for that, this game isn't very friendly to those of us who like to skirt past human settlement - since everyone's too busy hawking items and runs. I'm pretty quick to disengage the ALL channel and conduct my business quickly whenever I see the name "Bush" float above someone's head, though
Far as PvP goes, it's about on par with what you can expect from just about any competitive game. I rarely speak to my teammates unless it's a good team, and I completely eschew the local channel, so I miss most of the inappropriate flaming.
Oh, and woe to thee who brings a character under level 20 to the random arena! If you think that place is a dive normally, just wait until some poor level 19 soul spawns into your party and watch the four-letter words fly :/

Sadly, there area really only a small group of people that flame in GW, and yet they ruin the experience for alot of people. I want to know how many new people we get that try the game, and get turned off by the flaming. I know during the PvP weekend event there were alot of new people that were very unimpressed with the players they saw.
A game with a bad reputation is one thing. Problems can be fixed, the game can be made better (at least with an online one), and some people will still like it enough to play. If, however, it is the community that is responsible for the reputation, then it is a slightly different matter. Some players that would like the game wont play it because of the other people on. Of course this isn't always the case, but it does happen often.
Diablo???
I played L2 for awhile, it was horrid. Doorway PKing is ridiculous, they camp the door and take cheap shots at low level players while they enter or exit. That Karma crap they came up with is so stupid, its only has hindering as a death penalty in GW. All the towns are like ghost towns, there's nobody in them, and when you do find somebody they dont speak. Everything was expensive as hell, theres no help anywhere, holiday events and items are a joke. Needless to say after a month i cancelled subscription.
Anyway, Im sure Random arena players aren't as bad as that, they may be immature at times, rude, or maybe just throwing a temper tantrum. Either case, GW is a great game that shouldn't be ruined by cheap words of insults, strong players will always prevail.

I guess I'm one of those asses though- used to round up all the tree mobs and then confuse one onto a poor guy who just happened to be training there and the rest would train on him.. poor guy would be all rooted rofl did that to an alliance member one time and he dropped a blue wolf helmet (around 5 mill at the time)- lucky I was good friends with the clan leader cause they wanted my ass.. that game was great

Let's see, in TA, RA or HA if youyr the last one left alive, with no rez and at least 2-3 people are chasing you, don't be surprised if they start calling you names.
Yea, it's fun. But after some seconds it becomes annoying for the other team. Accept the fect that you're defetead.
And let's not forget those geniuses who only equip running skills and some self heal and after their team is dead start their maraton....

It's like real life right? Just ignore them if it's in PvP say nothing and beat them sencless. If they're on your team let them get beat up a bit and then save them so they can see who the noob is. Simple as that and I undertsand that you might not be able to avoid reading the garbage they type but trust me you can. Heres something you should know if someone said suchs thing or does whatever it annoys them when you don't say anything or do anything. So one you look more mature two you get thier goat at the same time so you win.

I agree. No matter were you are, in real life or not, jerks are simply not worth wasting time on.
It's not worth trying to prove your point. Life is too short to argue with such people. If they are rude/incompetent, then it's their loss. Just feel good about yourself not being such a jerk

I don't mind kiters, a Warrior they're annoying, but hey that's part of their survival. If they can't take me by standing there, then they should run. What bugs me is Marathon Runners. People who just pack a run around build to try and make the other team so mad they leave when the rest of their team is dead. That's cowardice.
The biggest fire starter words:
-Bush - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Chuck Norris - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Warrior Monks + do not suck
-Warrior Monks + suck bad
-Hitler
-Race
-Religion - AVOID AT ALL COST
-Evolution - AVOID AT ALL COST
I will guarentee, that if you make a comment about the "AVOID AT ALL COST" words, maybe even just say those words, you will start a convorsation, which will last 2 minutes, and then burst into a flame war.

I agree with most of what you said.
However I have to disagree about running being deemed as cowardice. I believe in using whatever necessary tactics to win the game. No matter how annoying, how frustrating, or how devious they may seem at times. A win is a win. Much of modern warfare tactics (Guerilla warfare, Snipers, Covert Ops, Supply Sabotage... etc) were once deemed as a cowardice tactic in the past, back when armies arrive in square uniform patterns and march face to face with drums rolling and flags waving...
Facing a marathon runner may seem challenging at times, I've had my share . But if we are determined to succeed, we will hunt him down, slay him, and become the undisputed victor of the arena!

I have no time for people in love with the word that is supposed to be offensive, 'noob'. It's ridiculous, sometimes it'll be the only thing someone says, other times, it's damn near every other word.
Now that I know people get mad at you for not being easy to kill, I might just start pvping to keep the ritalin kids angry!

Diablo???
It's ok to be angry when facing a runner, but do not despair and give up... instead, your anger shall be delivered in a swift wrath of vengeance that will annihilate the runner in pure destruction. HUNT the animal down, CHASE him until the ends of the world, how DARE he rob you of your glorious victory. And when your steel blade meets his flesh, cut him down, skin to skin. Watch as he kneels before you headless and bleeding. Quenched with his blood, that is when you know you've won, and then you can type

I just think the mentality of 'I'm mad because you were hard to kill/I couldn't kill you' is ridiculous! Yeah, it may suck, but don't get mad at you're opponent, christ! Rebuild and hope for better next time!

I've said it in other threads & I'll say it in this one...This is the reason people are stopping playing random pvp.
Most of the players I know will only GvG or PvP with guildmates or friends.
The randoms are just full of idiots who noone will play with, exactly like BattleNet became in Diablo2.
I wish there was something Anet could do about this, but I don't suppose there is.
