Vellum Crafter harder to get to?

Hi guys, The last 4 times I'v run to the vellum crafter near Droknar's Forge (the one you go through the troll cave to get to) there has been a big group of Avicara standing RIGHT infront of the crafter. Like they are guarding him or something. I tried luring them away a bunch of times, but each time they ran straight back to their original position.

I did eventually manage to lure them away long enough for me to craft my Vellum (using it for scar patterns), but it took a while and was annoying to do so. Before today there were never any avicara anywhere near the the crafter and I could easily just run up there.

I'm just wondering if Anet have, for some reason, purposely done this to make it harder to get to, or have I just had unlucky spawns each time?

Anyone else notice this?

Go to the one outside maguuma stade. Very easy to get to.

I've noticed nothing unusual, but only been out that way twice since the update (and not for the crafter, just past him).

The reason I go to the one outside droks is because I usually kill the trolls to salvage some more wood on the way there

When I was crafting vellum for my monks new set of tattoos, I didn't know there was a crafter who made vellum in the jungle (didn't know that until I read the post above ). Moreover, I no longer had my warrior, so getting to the crafter the OP is talking about was not an easy task for a monk! Protective spirit+shield of regeneration and starting out from Camp Rankor made it a bit easier, though.

The ultimate nightmare must be to get down there to craft the vellum, only to find out you have all the necessary materials and money....IN THE STORAGE!

Yep, the one outside Maguuma is easy to get to - once you know where he is. I usually go from Henge tho. here's the directions from there:

Head south, going up the hill. After you cross the second log on the path, keep to the left and you'll see a log going down into some trolls, go down that and you'll see another path going back north. Go straight up the path to the end, and there he is!

If you start from Henge, it's super easy. Really nothing to avoid except a few spiders and trolls. And I know how bad it sucks to run somewhere and realize you forgot something. I've doesn't it a billion times probably.

There's one in the desert as well. Right near a portal, and no enemies on that side at all.

The easiest way to craft vellum is by far in the desert. Head out of Dunes with henchies, have the henchies hold aggro while you activate the teleporter, head straight east, run past the 2 worms that pop, just keep goin, and run through the sand giants to the poral into the arid sea. It takes about 2 minutes to get to the crafter, and you dont have to kill anything!

I go to the desert as well, but I can tell you sometimes it's a pain - once I had 4 wurms on me all at the same time. Of course, I don't bring henchies with, so I was pretty well screwed. Rezone and hope for a better spawn.

I've also noticed the huge increase in Avicara outside Droknar's Forge. I've commented on this in another thread here about how the 55hp monk botting has moved from the desert to Drok's. I believe this is a stealth update made by ANet in response to the bot movement.

Not really as they are easy to kill and they always drop gold armours for me.

Well I have to disagree, but that is just personal prefernce I guess.

The reason I prefer the jungle:
  • Don't have to mess with teleporters.
  • Can be run just as fast as what you indicated
  • Never get hit except by a life siphon and poison when crossing over a vine bridge, but nothing near life threatening.
  • Don't have to be careful of anything
  • Can be run there safely if all you had on your skillbar was Charge and Sprint. No need for Balanced stance or anything to counter enemies you might find along the way.

I will have to try launching from Denravi instead of Stade. I think the main reason I avoid Henge is not only is it the City of Nerfed Items, but it is city of "Where the Hell Am I?"

In Stade you warp in usually right next to storage and don't spend half an hour trying to find storage and then the exit to the city.

I've always used the crafter outside Drok's; it's the fastest crafter in my opinion.
I have a normal running skillbar on my Wa/Mo for it, but I only use Charge and Sprint, and Charge isn't even necessary, it only speeds it up. I have noticed that Avicara patrol spawns by the crafter ~1 in 10 of my runs(not a tested number, just my impression), but the run is ~90 seconds(I just timed it), so I just restart if they spawn. Incidentally, my Ranger is slightly faster.
