Anyone else feel they're being ripped off

Back when I first started getting excited about guild wars (about a month before the initial release) the whole premise behind the game was that you would pay for the game. No monthly fee, but instead there would be optional chapters released over time. These would add new content, and be reasonably priced.

Now I don't know what their idea of reasonably priced is... but seeing as I paid $40 Canadian for the game, I really don't see how $70 Canadian is reasonably priced for an expansion pack?

Blah blah I know it's a 'stand-a-lone' game, but it's still Guild Wars. Just new features and 2 new classes... IE an expansion pack.

Anyone else think this is a rip-off?

And those who will tell me to just 'not buy it'.. well I won't be.

fine just dont buy it and dont clog up the forum with another misplaced whine about this is an expansion crap.

go to the other official crap thread and join the handfull of whiners there.

it is a full standalone game not the usual small add on.

i just pre ordered the Collectors Edition so i guess i do not think it is a rip off.

someone close or move /merge this thing

the regular is the same price as the first one

EDIT

THEY SAID THE NEW FULL CHAPTERS WOULD BE FULL PRICE FROM THE START

nope it's the regular at futureshop.ca.

but remember. for ch.1 it started out like this too at futureshop. and it did go down near the release date. They might do the $40 thing again at release date.

It would definitey be a ripoff, because they obviously know Amazon has it for $60 for the regular. which would be high enough but reasonable at least. (buy it somewhere else then.)

added: compare ch.1 and factions on futureshop.ca with Amazon.ca's ch.1 and factions. Amazon's is only a few dollars difference between ch.1/2. while futureshop ccurrently has ch.1 at $60 and ch.2 at $70. If you remember, after weeks of ch.1's release, futureshop has had the game on sale a few times, one at $50, and another at $40. I think it's still early, you just have to wait til they lower their price for factions.

All the sites I looked at list as regular edition.

Future Shop, Amazon, EB Games.

$70 Canadian, and at EB Games it's $70 US!!!!!!!

I paid $40 Canadian so this is a little outrageous.

And how can you say a game that included TWO character classes is a full game?

It amazes me how people always complain about something about Factions, when it's evident they've done little to no reading about it.

Why don't you google it and look for some information before bitching and whining, hmm?

Ok I do see it at ebgames for $49.99US. That is still $65CDN with taxes.

Also I'm not sure what your referring to with the character classes...

If you purchase only factions.. you get 6 classes? It seems to me you get ritualist/assassin... unless I am wrong.

if you get factions you get all 8 professions. Gaile was in LA talking about them releasing campaigns every 6 months, each campaign is a stand alone game so you do not have to have them linked. But then you lose the 6/100% inventory over the 4/50% inventory and can not travel between the two...

You are looking at the collector's edition. Chapter 1 CE was $65-$70. If you found that price at a retailer that's the retailer's price. Anet is just the distributor after it hits retail they can sell it for what ever they want.

Buy it online if the retailers are price gouging and report that retailer. Distributors are not happy when retailers jack up their prices for not reason. That happened with Mtg before and they took away a lot of retailers' rights to sell their products and never sold to them again.

The game will be just as much as any other new game. Expect to see $45-50 for standard edition.

Sounds to me like you got a really sweet deal on the Original!

(for those that don't know, things cost more in Canadian dollars, so $70 canadian vs $50 US sounds right to me...)

What's $40 Canadian in US dollars?

Wait until you see the actual product before complaining, please.
