Vote To Change Your Char's Name
ProPhetZ FaTe
This is a simple question, would you like to change your character's name after you have already made it and is quite far in the game. If Guild Wars Support Team see's how many people want to change their character's names, they might allow it, so vote yes if you would like to change your character's name without starting all over. Vote no if you like it the way it is.
1.Yes
2.No
Sorry guys, I don't know how to make this into a checkbox vote, so just post reply's and any info. on how to create the checkbox would be helpful

Selerious
I say No.
It wouldnt matter much in PvP scince many are deleted and remade all the time, but characters that are lv 20 or around will be most of the way through, which is a few hours and you could say that the name gets moulded to the character in my eyes. Its not the best to log on and look at your characters, look there is blah, blah and a new name, you get used to characters, they were tecnically born with their name.
Plus if you don't like the name in the later parts how did you get that far with it in the first place.

No.....

I would support this if it had steep built-in limitations, like 25k to initiate, allowed only once per month, dynamic friends-list updates, etc... Something that prevents frequent name-changing from being abused.

changing character name? This kind of thing has never happened in entire mmorpg history.
Juicey Shake
I'd have liked it 2 months ago when I deleted my 400 hour / 5 month old ranger [deleted because I didn't like the name I had chosen.] had all ranger skills unlocked, 15k armors.... deleted it anyway.

If a person takes the few extra minutes to come up with a name they like, then it shouldn't be a problem in the first place. But naming you character seems to be a bit of a sticking point in character creation.
With My characters, I already had names in mind and they weren't very much sought after, so I had no problem with trying to get a name that was already taken.

So...No to name changes.

No to name changes.
Having an apperance changer like hair style and color isn't that bad of an idea. Its realistic atleast. Plus Anet has been looking for some gold filters for a while now, might be a good idea..............

I'm stuck with deleting my 2nd oldest character or simply living with the fact that I didn't really like the name I came up with for my ranger. I may have to anyway when Factions comes out and I find a new hair style/face I like better and there isn't a way to switch.
The arguments for "no" are pretty weak. "Oh, you should have thought of a better name." There's honestly nothing wrong with my ranger's name, I just don't care for it anymore. Not everyone wants to bring a new game home and not be able to play it until they come up with a name they love that isn't taken.
I support a name change, provided there are very strict restrictions to ensure people aren't changing willy-nilly.
Charqus
Yes
BUT
not permanently I'd do it as a joke from time to time tho

ThY[Ninj]
it would be confusing, but I see how it could help people so i'll say yes. Also, we should be able to create characters with just one word in their name.
Starsky-sama
No. thx.
Esprit
No, bad idea. People need to take their time in making their character, and not just throw a random set of letters together.
Plus, scammers would love this. They'd scam people, get their name known, and then change it, to continue the process. It would be like plastic surgery for a thief to change their identity.

Anet said no for account security and not giving scammers a new identity.
this horse has not just been beaten to death it has been buried under Bandini mountain for some time.

YES!
I've used Toben Hexx across a few games now, and here before I knew about Hexes.
Now that I'm a Me/N, it's just too cheesy! My fault, I know, but something like a name change feature seems easy enought to implement, and rather harmless.

Sparks Dawnbringer
Your name is the only way other players can recognise you. Your reputation is determined by your name. So if I played with Someone and had a good time I would want to do so again. And the reverse is true too if Someone was a jerk and a very bad unsportsmanlike player or a scammer if they could change there names I would not know this was a person I would rather not have in my party or trade with. So I am very sorry if you named yourself some stupid name, but I do not think you should be able to change it. I'd be happy to let yo change any thing else, your hair, sex, color of skin or hair, height, but not your name.
Ninetail Trickster
Problem here is that people may abuse it, as Sparks suggested.
If it were a matter of yes or no, I'd be against the namechange, but if a condition could be attached, make it cost a decent chunk of gold, proportional to how much gold you have. Thus, if someone were to scam another player and change their name, the scam would be a wasted effort in illicit dealings.

Winterclaw
I'd vote no for this. Abuse problems as mentioned would be a problem.
If the option was to be able to make a level 20 ascended RP character of whichever class you are once you've beaten the game... then maybe I'd vote for that.
I will say that I sympathize because everyone think's my main is named Jim, not JIRN.

lyra_song
This has been mentioned before and a high cost like "change name only once per character" would seem most ideal (similar to changing your home server from america to europe).
Besides...even if you add someone to your friend list and they delete that character, you will still have them on the list and it shows what character they are currently on.

FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO DO NOT REMEMBER
at the start there was NO WAY to change a name .
if you had a raunchy name that was banned you had to delete that character loot gold armor items and all.
now they will have a tech allow you to change the name giving you in effect a fresh account name without losing everything.
if you dont like a name make one you do and use the old one as a storage mule.

healer of ascalon
No because it would just be too confusing. Imagine you added xXWinterFrostXx to your friends list and the next day it disappears and December_Kiss appears... though I guess you could figure it out if only one player changed their name at a time.
ProPhetZ FaTe
It wouldnt do that, it will put your original name then your current name in parenthases.
Toben_Hexx
Wouldn't be hard, wouldn't hurt anyone. Like in your guild/friends window, they may have joined/been added as Thisguy, but are on as(or, ar now known as) Thatguy.
If yer a hardcore rpger, it could be a useful tool in your story. But I have yet to see any of those.

As i posted on that other thread, YES! i really hope this change is made. A limit of only one name change per character will eliminate the possibility of scammers using this tool for bad purposes
Lepton CFd
Hmm, yes.
Yes ONLY if we can have, say, 1 name change per Chapter. Excessive name changing is ridiculous. It also the defeats the point of making a customized character.
I agree that a lot of people don't spend time on character creation and do stupid things. However, I'd like to address that this thread is not about changing your hair colour, but changing your NAME. It's not unnatural to get tired of a name, even when you did spend a while thinking of it.

1. Yes, /signed. After all, you can change your real name legally in the United States, so why not in a game too?
Goonter
Pros: The people that dont like there names can change it.
Cons: The people that dont care you dont like your name have to wonder why your name changed.
I like my characters name, but Id love to change face/hair/skintone on them but cant.
With a proper system in place everyone should get what they want in character customiztion.

I think you should be able to change ur hair and such, but not your name, it is who you are...

Why the hell do people feel the need to bring up what happens in MMOs when topics are discussed about GW? This isn't an MMO.
I think it would be convinient if we had a name change function. But, knowing that I don't have a name change function, I actually spend time researching mythical names or toss around ideas when I create a character, instead of throw something together, knowing I will likely use that character for years to come.
I would rather have a hair style changer, or even be able to change facial looks rather than change my name, because I tolk the time to make a good one to begin with. But after my elementist reaches 30, it is time for a hair cut, lord, I knew that there wasn't a hair change function, but honestly, hair isn't ment to be the same your entire life.
Perhaps a useful option would be to transfer all of your obtained skills from one character to a new one. This would allow you to make a new character altogether with new name, look, even alternate classes, and retain all skills learned on all classes from your previous character. With the advent of birthday gifts, players may be even more centimental about their characters, and perhaps character age can be passed along to.
Another useful option would be a syncronize quest, which would grant you all skills unlocked or available to your other characters. This way, after you have played through with several characters, you would not need to spend skill points and endless amounts of gold to learn all the skills you've obtained on other classes. Even if you can only syncronize skills from your other characters which are also syncronized, it would be a well worth reward for a great feat, like all missions and bonuses in prophesies, or gold status on all missions in Factions.
I don't think name changing is a bad idea, but I like to explore better options rather than micro assess a situation. I would have to vote No, since many better solutions could be added, a working idea that isn't the best isn't a good one, it is better to pursue more elaborate options which would provide for several interest rather than just one.

Umm no... you dont think when you make your char too bad..
I think that someone asked Gaile if this could happen and she said no only cuz there are some people that could abuse this or somehow find a way to.

Yes. Theres really no good reason not to, as long as it isnt abused, and has a steep fine, why the heck not?
VGJustice
I gotta say no. This just sounds like a big wide open door for scammers. Besides, names are definetive. You can't go and just randomly change your name all the time, because no one would know who you are!
Symeon
Ok, I said it before but now this thread has been revived... there is no need to have this thread while there is a much larger one on the exact same subject.
