nothing wrong with doing it slow, that's how it is supposed to be played. However there are certain areas you can powerlevel yourself for 4 or 5 levels in a couple hours. But it kind of ruins the gaming experience. I'm going to japan in a 2 months and there is no high speed internet on that base so I'm just trying to get a bunch of lvl 20 charcters before I leave

My mesmer was at lvl 14 and I played him for about...130 hours? And my necro who I'm playing now is at lvl 15 and I've played him for about...80 hours I'd suppose. I'm takin' it slow, clearing out any and all quests that I can do. Sometimes I'll just play hours and hours of arena low level play.
I'm in no rush, I'm having a lot more fun than I think I would if I just did the necessary missions and powerleveled in 30 hours.

My problem is that with a new game, I have a hard time sticking to one character for extended periods of time, at first. I've made 6, deleted 2, so far. :P
1st character I made, total n00b, it took me what felt like forever to get to lvl 10, doing all quests/exploring - maybe 30-32 hours? - I hadn't even done Fort Ranik mission or very far past Piken Square.
My current character it's taken me about 14 hours to get to lvl 11.5/Borlis Pass even with doing a lot of side-quests (not all of them).
It's all familiarlity plus how much one likes to explore.

I think all those who get to higher level of the game in such a short time start whining in a little while how easy is to level. Which is NOT, unless you stare at that monitor for 15 hours a day, having no work, no life.. nothing.
I've been playing for a couple weeks now, I am only lvl 14, and you know what? I don't regret. Because I have a LIFE. And I have real fun when I come back to play it again.
Most of the players in GW are teenagers, what else they can do? Some kids don't even have normal friends. Their best friend is computer. They spend like 15 hours a day at the computer. That's SAD.
