I'm using Bortak's bone staff and it seems that when the animate casting time gets halved and the other bonus from Bloodstained boots is applied, there is no casting progress indicator. Bit annoying.

Thats because casts of 1 sec or lower get no Indicator.

Bortaks would make the 3 sec into 1.5 secs, and 25% off that would be ~1 sec or alittle less.

Thus no indicator.

Hmm should be 1.1s when rounded, but OK, I'll take that as a feature, not bug

25% off 1.5 seconds would be 1.125 seconds. I have no idea how the game rounds the time, maybe it's rounded to 1 second.
BTW, you can target yourself before you cast animate spells, then you can see the spell casting progress indicator of your target (this time it's yourself).

Bloodstained boots offer a 100% chance for 25% acceleration, if it hits the 20% from an item it stacks to a 75% shorter casting time.
that would be a whooping 3/4 of a second to summon a fiend.

Yes, if his maths wasnt completely wrong.
75% of 50% is 37.5%, not 25%. Percentages stack geometrically, not arithmetically.

Stone Summit Gnashers are equipped with these boots as well now (or they have been since day one, just turned on with the update). I've seen them summon a Fiend in a second now, still beating me to the corpse with my boots and my 20/20 staff.

I'd go corpse denial with those Gnashers, putrid explosion or necrotic traversal.. either will be faster than those gnashers can summon.

If you're farming then you want those corpses for minions so denial is not an option to be used lightly. I find that it works out well to put Putrid Explosion on the bar, but to use it very selectively/defensively. It should be used in the following situations:

1. You have just cast both your animate minion and horror but there's still a corpse down. Prevent it from becoming an enemy well or minion by doing putrid.

2. It's the first corpse down and you want to cause gnashers/binders/marrow scarabs to waste time and energy casting their corpse exploitation spell. I mostly use this in desert with the scarabs but it works in SF too. BOOM 126 damage and 25e wasted by at least 1 or more scarabs. (Gnashers/Binders recover from this faster but it still helps IMHO.) Plus they pay the recharge penalty on the aborted spell. Since they will be dead soon there's little chance they will get a well up/minion up.

You could use consume corpse if you want since it's a 1 second cast, but then you may find yourself in the middle of some trouble. It's a bad idea in the desert if you're queen farming because of all the nest builder's traps.

Just my $0.02.

I'm a die-hard collector staff user, so it would be the blue (yes blue ) Bone Staff from the collector north of Camp Rankor (20/20 Death Magic attribute)
Bring him 5 Mountain Troll Tusks, and he'll be happy to give you the best Death Magic staff the game can offer, without all the silly nonsense of paying an arm and a leg *(only my opinion of course)*

Simple solution really, be N/R and use frozen soil (no points for quick use), veratas and blood of the master is effective enough to keep a decent army

Were you the one excited about the prospect of beating them to it in an earlier post? lol...it only goes to reason thouhg

as for beating them try a bortak's cesta + boots + rare 10% all fast cast wand as the wand and cesta appear to stack...I've had instacasts before the boots were fixed...

I used Bortaks Claw for 20% faster cast and a 20/20 focus when fighting Stone Summit. Now, with the boots, I can use my 20/20 collecter staff with +5 energy and +1 Death more often.
