To all Barrage/Conjure Rangers:
Toxic RD
What bow do you use? i was thinking of buying a boulderbeards short bow since it has dmg mod health mod, and lightning dmg already, anyone used it? i also like the faster firing rate
Valerius
imo Hornbows are best for Barrage... as it doesn't matter how freakin' slow the bow is cause' all that matters is the recharge of Barrage {E}... so either a Hornbow, Shadowbow or Ivorybow will be the best choice
i usually go with a Zealous string for JI... but if u insist on going Conjure then either a Fiery (for Shiverpeaks) or Icy (for Fire Island) string will work great... i recommend an Enchanting Grip 20% tho

My ranger is in drakscale armor so I had to use a dragon skin horbow to go with it, and i is fiery with a 20% enchant mod on it.
I pretty much always go with this bow as it works best for shiverpeaks, and if I am in the fire islands I am taking winter anyway.
I also have an Icy Dead bow to use on ocassion.
I agree with valerius that a horn bow is best because it matches the recharge with barrage

Short bows/Flat bows don't work well with barrage. You have to break the attack animation and that leads to longer time between barrages. Long/Composite/Horn bow's are the best. I'd use a long bow for the range, but Horn Bow's definately pack the biggest punch (and it actually gives you something to use them for.)

My personal favorite is Barrage with Tiger's Fury and a collector's Ascalon (short) bow from the desert (+15% over 50 ). I customize it for +20% damage, add on a fiery or poisoner's string.
With Tiger's Fury up, I can shoot a Barrage on every other shot using the short bow, and still make great damage numbers. IMHO.

thanx for the info, i guess ill get thornbeards horned bow
SnipiousMax
the +15% enchant mod would work great with conjure.
Toxic RD
Well i jus got a thornbeards for:
5K
Max dam req. 9 chaos axe dyed silver 3/1 vampiric +1 axe mastery 20% chance 12% dmg ^50
But i see lightning isn't a popular choice, why not?

But i see lightning isn't a popular choice, why not? I use Lightning all the time - collectors horn bow (can't recall which collector though - guildwiki should have it listed). It seems to do real well against most foes. Keep in mind though, if you go with a B/P build in Tombs (popular lately) and an orders necro is there, you'll gain no benefit from the orders as you'll be dealing non-physical damage. So it might pay wise to keep a physical bow for barrage on hand as well.

I'd go icy string because in tombs they have a weakness to ice, well, it seems to me that way

i generally avoid elemental mods like the plague because it's a hassle to switch things around if you happen to find an enemy with a resistance to your element. vampiric is best for damage, zealous is quite handy...and sundering sucks.
i use a non-elemental short bow or long bow whenever i run barrage. non-elemental damage is the most versatile...i'll take versatility over anything.

Toxic RD
but then you loose +13 dmg from a conjure skill
Toxic RD
and when ur in a 8 person team or 6 person team, do you really think facing 1 enemy with an lightning resistance is going to screw your entire team, no, just get the other 7 people to kill it, no problem
Druids Arrow
Losing +13 damage shouldn't be a concern. Interupting a skill would be more handy or keeping yourself alive. I agree with Valerius Judge's Insight all the way.
Toxic RD
I'm NOT pvp, so interupting does not play a huge roll to me
dont feel no pain
barrage and mark of pain ftw!

Problem with Mark of Pain is it triggers the infamous AoE scatter.

Where in my post did I say it was PvP? Ice Imp farming for instance, what would you rather do, Interupt a Malestrom, heal and live to fight on or do +13 damage only for you to be mullered by a wall of ice
Toxic RD
You say interupting a skill would be more useful for keeping me alive, but do you really think not interupting 1 skill from a enemy monster in an 8 person team is going to screw me over? I do think Guld Wiki's build calls for distracting shot too
I'd rather do +13 damge, over 6 targets that equals out to +78 dmg since i use barrage

living too die
you ask that interrupting just one skill makes a difference? what if each of you groups monks(anywhere, not just in topk) just did not remove 1 hex.. or just remove a certain condition.. its a team effort. i dont go anywhere at all w/o at least one interrupt on my skill bar. youre sure as hell gonna help your team out more by interrupting a meteor shower(goodbye minions) than doing +13 damage from conjure on a couple of targets per shot. personally, i dont use any enchants in topk, just a 15^50 vampiric hornbow, it does great damage, the +13 wont matter much when there are 4/5 other rangers doing the same thing. when youre in a group of 8, you may want to concentrate a little less on youre personal output and more on what you can do to help youre team work smoothly.

You come to a forum as a junior ranger, you ask for advice on a bow to use, then you argue over skill builds, mmmm !! Conjure does squat, very few rangers run conjure builds, I tried em, theres better builds, that do more damage.
Go Vampiric, with a customised bow, and you will be approaching +13 dmg constantly(20% of 30 is 6pts of damage, think about that)(I use 30 as an example of a decent hit, obviously 22 is max hit(20%of 22 is appx. 4)). Interrupting is a Rangers bread and butter(along with several other 'skills'), when you get more experience as a ranger youll come to realise this. Try to join groups as a conjure/barrage ranger LFG and see how you make out. Im not saying conjure has no place, it just aint the be all and end all, that the WIKI makes it out to be.

Well, sorry if i came off argumentative, but it's helped me to understand many things i didnt before, so arguing (in your opinion) has helped me alot
When you use the Barrage/Judges Insight combo, do you also use strength of honor?

Druids Arrow
No. Simply as you'll find that Living > Damage Dealing, plus its a wasted slot for Strength of Honor.

Last time I checked, there was a trader with the Ascalon Short Bow in the desert. I have gotten at least 10 short bows from him, and one as recently as last week.

That particular build owns in the Fissure.
One the above post I mistakenly mention max as 22, WTF was I thinking, 28 is max so yea customising and a vamp string id the way to go.
On the subject of collector bows, I have obtained most of them(they rock), there are 3 or more in the dessert, just buy the collectables(it is a lot faster, and less aggravating), you can find out their wherabouts, and what each needs and what 'type' of bow they offer at GuildWIKI(whew, run on...). Good luck.

Tested this to find out for myself. False. In 30 seconds firing barrage every time I was able I got 15 shots with a flat bow and 11-12ish with a horn bow. It may break the attack animation, but it restarts from the beginning and plays faster to make up for it. If you do the damage numbers the 10% armor penetration will never make a horn bow better than a flat bow. What I'm still trying to decide is whether judges insight is worth it. Hands down tigers fury or frenzy does more dps than judges insight's +20% armor penetration ( I worked out the formulas) but I'm not sure what the net effect is of the holy damage. I believe switching to holy will make you do better numbers vs melee enemies and worse ones vs casters, but I'm not entirely sure. Also, judges insight loses you about 1.5 barrages worth of damage because of it's cast time, not to mention the mana cost and the huge amount of skill points smite will eat up because you need the longest duration possible. If it was a maintaining enchantment it would be hands down the best way to go for ranger, unfortunately it isn't.
