Runes! how do u get them outta items?

I just read some posts and i am led to believe that u can extract runes from items with the improved salvage kit depending on what mod the item has? Could someone explain to me how this works?

If you want to salvage any kind of upgrades, runes, etc., then you will need to use an Expert Salvage kit.

Salvaging doesn't really get it out of something, it more likely destroys the thing it's in, and just leaves the/a rune/upgrade for you.

You can though, if you want to keep the armor for example, put another rune on top of the previous rune. The old one simply gets replaced by the new one. If you don't want the -75 Health loss from a Superior rune for example, but don't want to lose your armor part either, just put a Minor version of that rune on top of the other one.
