It could be used for new content in the future, not unheard of. Sorrow's Furnace is an example of a previously unreachable area being added later on.

They've shown they can change the map as well. The old pre-searing map you could scroll around but it got changed a while back to be a single screen, so I suppose in future if need be Anet could change/add to the maps as well.

Their are seveal nice large areas on the map that could be expanded into, all of which were mentioned.

Unfortunately they seem pretty well finished with Phophecies, but you never know.

Well they did make SF and junk. I don't know if that was added territory or already existing territory that they made better. As for the other stuff I think it has great potential to become a great new spot for missions or quests.

If I remember correctly, Orr was indeed west of the desert, however, wasnt there something about it being blown up and it sunk into the sea? Therefore it would be west of the peninsula where those desert island looking things are?..I think that was right..

There are a lot of places that they could make updates for (like they did with SF) but with Factions coming out they probably wont do such things to the original map

(just my opinion i dont know for sure)

There are some towns where you can see a portal on the map but are unable to reach it.

That area west of the desert is where all the Anet employees have secret meetings.

the manuscript does say orr sank, so that cant be it.

The portals in some towns are from back when they used to have the random arenas all seperated, so you could pick which one you wanted to go to (which was a much better setup). For some reason they never removed them.

The manuscript may say that Orr sank, but as many stories from antiquity in real life, sinking islands usualy mean really nasty volcanos. Volcanos with the temperment of Atomic Anne...

Also, when I read the discriptions of The Cataclysim from ingame npcs, it sounds more and more like a massive blast than a simple case of land sinking beneath the waves.

On the subject of the penninsula in game, It would probobly be used regardless of Factions. from what im hearing, Factions is going to be less story based than profecies, more on Co-op and the story will change as the power between alligences shift.

Or, i could just be dreaming about more undead smashing. I most certainly do like killing undead

Just south of the Tarnished Coast lies the volcanic islands that together make up the Ring of Fire. The large volcano at the center of the ring is where the gods reportedly dropped the Bloodstones before leaving Tyria for good. I dont think the islands were formed in the blast

1) The Ring of Fire has been there for ages. Orr was destroyed in the Cataclysm around the time the searing occured. The Gods dropped the bloodstones into the volcano of the Ring Of Fire long before the searing, like during King Doric's reign.

2) Orr was blasted into the sea, but note the peninsula there is a tad scorched and barren. Perhaps the blast had also destroyed the nearby landscape, or that is a portion of Orr that was not blasted into the sea?

As quoted by some Canthan in Lion's Arch...
Quote:
Cantha lies south, across the ocean...past the ruins of Orr, past the islands of fire1, past the crystal lands of burning sun2, and beyond the clashing seas. Only the greatest sailors dare such a journey, I assure you. 1 - Ring Of Fire
2 - Crystal Desert

Thusly, if Cantha is down there past the currently southernmost areas, then the ruins of Orr are most likely near, or some of it even on, that scorched peninsula.

by the islands i ment the HUGE ones just west of the large blank area..not the ring of fire islands. Notice that there is a circular area in the middle of those huge islands...thats where I'm guessing Orr was before the blast.

--edit--
Here let me get a screen shot (in a sec)

--edit (again)--
Ok here it is:

The BLACK area is the ring of fire islands (which is not what I'm talking about).

The RED area is the area that I was talking about.

THe GREEN area is the area I believe was once Orr (makes sense since it was whiped off the map due to the blast).

It also happens to be the area of the new login screen... Take a look sometime.. Straight down from login... Your on top of a pillar of Orr.

Empire of Orr, Ruins of Arah, The Sea of Sorrows, and to the north the The City of Drascir and the Academy of the Arcane Arts (IE: Finger of Chaos, Spectral Agony, Soul Vortex, Claim Resource, Chimera of Intensity , and ect might be learned from here for creature characters.) are all expected to make appearances in future chapters. Possibility as a way of reinvigorating areas in Tyria once future chapters start pulling people away from original areas... This is actually quite a smart ploy on Arenanets part. For example... Imagine say around Chapter 5... They decide to go back and make it so the Charr or the Mursatt are playable races. And they adjust the story to allow for people to play as those races in game in all the previous content that came before. giving access to new areas of the map, and new abilities, but ultimately... still the same map...

Empire of Orr and the Charr are linked in the lore "King Reza was the last king of Orr, before it was attacked by the Charr and then destroyed by the king's personal advisor Vizier Khilbron in the Cataclysm. " So it would be logical to include Charr Regions if we ever get access to Orr, stoyline wise. I can see tremendous potential here for such things... Heck even the searing itself (2 year gap) could be revisited as a Charr campaign.

Its not unheard of... remember a hit game called City of Villains???

The small islands and rock formations surrounding the pillar at the login screen seem to be Kryta-ish, this login screen is probably somewhere near the Battle Isles, Kryta, or even Cantha. I cannot compare the lush rock formations to the deadened remnants of the peninsula. Still, one large island has lava on it...who knows? But if the map isn't lying color-wise, Orr would be more like a mix of the Crystal Desert and post-searing's landscape.

Clearly the Ring of Fire.

I took some more pictures just to make sure, and the islands surrounding your character match the locations of the Arran broken islands.

Don't forget that Anet will release a new chapter every 6 months. With Factions they might not update the map of Tyria, but in later chapters the unreachable places might be unlocked.

And that could be very likely, cause in my opinion, when you finished the game, the story of Tyria feels a bit unfinished. (what happened to the char, the white mantle etc)

if you were standing where the pininsula of orr is (lets disregard distance) you should be able to see the islands near kryta and the ring of fire islands.

Where we vist the time span during something (IE: Presear and two year gap to Post sear) where like the game starts seeing a Charr Leader talking to blahblah and then we make our away around to another area.

I like that idea lol.

(what happened to the char, the white mantle etc) It would have to be a new chapter, Jeff (co-founder) in the audio interview stated (when asked about adding to c1 stuff) that there not doing anything with the quests / mission only minor updates and special events (halloween, winterfest, etc). Pretty much leaving the content as it is.
