Sentinel Armour - Your Thoughts
Bleidd
Seemed alot of players were talking about the new Sentinel Armour today in the groups I was in. If there was one thing in common it was how this is going to be THE new Warrior armour outside Gladiators. Now, ignoring the 13 STR req, the set is 100 armour for each piece. 20 more than most sets, 15 more than Plate/Wyvern/Dragon. So my question is what makes it that much different than the current sets, namely Plate/Wyvern/Dragon, that already offer comparable armour vs physical attacks.
- Mesmer and Necromancer spells dealing damage almost always ignore armour. There are exceptions but they are not the majority.
- Elementalist spells do deal damage that previously a Warrior had no additional way of defending against outside a Warding mod. But with the DPS of an Elementalist already ridiculously low, having been on both the dealing and receiving end, does anyone consider them a serious threat? My Geomancer can spike relatively well with Obsidian Flame, but it ignores armour anyways. Maybe someone can do the math and see the difference this will make vs the 25% AP of air spells. Fire and especially water I still think will be largely shrugged off in terms of damage.
- This of course impacts the damage dealt by Rangers and other Warriors. However Ranger and Warrior damage is generally physical, and is already covered by the current armours.
Then you add in the 13 STR req... of questionable use to be sure, though I am aware there has been mention of new skills, some presumably Strength-based, perhaps making the attribute more useful.
So the bottom line is, and bear in mind this as with anything else at this point regarding the new armour, is conjecture and speculation, what's the big deal? I'm not saying its garbage by any means, but I'm not seeing it as that much better than anything else. Maybe it was just the people I spoke with today.
On the other hand, its about damned time Elementalists got something worth wearing.

Uh, Legion armour will be the new stance tank I think...
no need to pump strenght that high (most stances are tactics based) and when stanced 110 armour vs physical

The warrior will be a new god :P. Well 100 armour is a little bit high, but i suppose tha tAnet tought of it and it wont be that good, well i hope. Or else it will be more difficult to kill IWAY :P.
Create a PVP character and you will see the new armor.

Gladiator's will still probably be very popular, as will any of the +energy type armours.
As I said, merely my observation today. So many people talking about it and I thought maybe I was missing something.

My thoughts:
Sentinel Armor: Perfect farming armor
Berserker Armor: PvP armor for use in Random Arenas, more health is always better against stacked health degeneration.

Berserker armor may result in viably being able to tack on another superior or major rune to your warrior...with that being said, I can't see myself using anything other than glads for my hammer warrior, and any other energy based hammer warrior.
First off, Healing Signet warriors are dominant in GvG. 13 stregnth = no healing signet, though I suppose Endure Pain is just as much a viable skill as Healing Signet, although very differant uses.
Most hammer warriors are HEAVILY energybased. You'll usually see Irresistable Blow, Frenzy, Crushing Blow and Bull's Strike/Charge on any given hammer warrior.
+5 Energy (or +6 energy when they fix knight's) for a hammer warrior CAN be very important. Not to mention +1 second to knockdowns is generally more usefull than +1 energy or a 12.5 percent chance of having +20 armor, even if you are only using Bull's Strike/Charge.
Defense on a warrior in GvG... Important, but not top priority. I think the higher offense capabilities of Berserker or Gladiator's armor outweighs the defense from Legion and Sentinal armor.
Ofcoarse, this could all change with the new factions skills, as energy may not be as important to a hammer warrior with the new skills. We can only wait and see.

100 armor will be good for runners.

Anybodynotice the barbed/crippling/silencing bow strings, only available to Factions? I wonder if there will be strings only available to Prophecies...

All I can say is....
Sentinel Armor + Dolyak Signet = one hell of a tank.

Then again what if there are enemies in Cantha that does 30% or more armor penetration ... 0_o

Despite the original intent of this thread, it's becoming chock full of the exact same questions from there.
I'd merge the threads, but it takes mod powers in both of the forums where the threads are located, so for now, just a link and closure.
