I just wanted to say that this link itself isn't 'your' speed. Maybe it should've been self-evident but it wasn't to me. heh
It must be the result of someone's specific test....cause my husband runs his own speed checks and says we're actually more like 3-4mbits, not 1mbit. Which makes more sense to me since typically I download a 600kiloBTYE file in less than a second, so the 129KB that link was saying confused me.

Although, being cable (where it's not a dedicated 'yours only' line), it does go up and down for us...and of course actual performance speed is also dependant on the server's cababilities that you're connecting too, or something, among other things.

RAM isn't hard to install....there's slots for it, and either you just insert the new 'stick' or get rid of the old 'stick' completely and just have the new one(s).
Does depend a bit on your system and what type of RAM and all that - I think not all 'sticks' work well together....or work in all motherboards, I think.

Edit - there's probably websites with 'how to install RAM' type info around somewhere.

You should make sure the speed of the RAM you buy matches that of the RAM already in your computer. It will still work fine if it doesn't match, but it's an awful waste to buy a 3200 speed RAM module to go alongside a 2700, because the whole RAM setup will only run at the speed of the lowest module. Simlarly, buying a 2100 speed to go alongside an existing 2700 module will make the 2700 module run at the lower speed.

You might be able to check this in Device Manager (found in System Properties in Control Panel), but you'll probably need to get a program like SiSoft SANDRA (google for it) and run one of the tests on there to get the speed of your RAM.

If it gives you the speed in MHz (i.e. 333MHz rather than just 2700), then you might want to look for a converter on the 'Net. I'm pretty sure 3200 is 400MHz, and 2700 is 333Mhz, but the rest I'm not sure about and those values might be wrong.

No, RAM isn't hard to install. You seem to have no clue however, and I don't recommend you open up your computer and mess with it. I suggest you get someone who knows what they're doing to install it for you.

256Mb is barely enough to load windows XP let alone a big 3D game ontop. What you are getting is not lag - it is long load times because you are swapping the game in and out of your tiny computer memory as it changes zones. Get 1Gb of RAM and you'll be fine. You'll probably have to take your computer with you to PC world to make sure you get the right stuff.

oh, and next time you buy a PC - take a friend who knows what they are talking about. 3ghz Pentium 4 and 256Mb RAM? Not a good idea.

Yeah, lol, you got a good Processor, but very low RAM for it to load up. :P

If I understand you correctly you own a DELL. Then go to the Dell Community Forums. They will tell you EXACTLY what kind of ram your Dell will need. Dell's are FUSSY about ram. Do NOT got to BestBuy,Circuit City, etc and just buy ram. It will not work correctly. Windows XP needs a minimum of 512 ram to run well. XP takes up almost all of your 256 ram. I would put in at least 1GB of ram. Like I said you will get ACTURATE answers at Dell's Forums. Also get rid of that FX5200. It is a piece of DUNG. I would get two 512 sticks of MATCHING ram. That with a new vid card you will be totally amazed how fast your system will become.

EDIT: I just re-read your specs. You have a Dell 4600i (I don't know what the "i" means) But I have a Dell 4600 and it ROCKS. Mine came with a FX5200 which I GAVE away the day I received my computer via UPS. So if you follow the advice that was given to you by me and others here you will be a happy person.
