I fixed the sound issue that many people have been having!!! You have to go to the volume panel on windows, click advanced under speaker settings, then click performance, then adjust the HARDWARE ACCELERATION LEVEL. I turned mine down one notch from full acceleration and my sound is back to normal!

You mean this isn't common knowledge? I guess that's why so many have been having problems with sound.

Yes, if you have problems turning the acceleration level down can help.

That's not a fix even if it works; it's a botch job: like using a taxi while your car is broken down.

Tried this, didn't fix the problem I was having (no sound FX on one weapon and a monster attack). Then I quit the game and restarted and the sound was fine.

The odd thing is - and I tried this again to check - when I went back and checked the hardware acceleration slider it had reset to full

Plus, iTunes makes people buy music in a special, protected format, making it impossible to edit the track. Audiophiles can't boost the bass on a track bought on iTunes without re-recording the track in an unprotected format. Does iTunes help prevent piracy? Nope. iTunes makes life easy for ignorant consumers, and impossible for people who know what the hell they're doing. Now Apple's advertising the bloody hell out of the "video" market, just trying to pull more money in. Is this new, innovative technology? No! It's the same, re-hashed technology we've always seen, just glorified with pretty colors and a little touch-wheel. Apple did nothing to benefit the progression of digital music technology. They just created a fad.

And now Apple's friggin' rich, too. They're up there with Microsoft on my anger list.

I just hope Google doesn't meet the same, sell-out fate.

Turning down hardware acceleration will help people with certain sound cards. If you're using an integrated sound card (IE a sound card build into your motherboard) you're more likely to have problems. But this stuff belongs in tech support...

I wonder if it's a particular make of sound card that's having errors.

Still same sound problem on the Fire Island for me. Everywhere else in the GW world it's just fine.

It's not really a fix if someone has to adjust their system settings in any way to get one single application to work properly. It's the application that needs to be fixed. If all the sounds on my computer (DVD's, other games, music) were borked, that'd be one thing. But it's only Guild Wars, and only Guild Wars post-patch. Doesn't take rocket science to figger out that the game itself is the problem.

That doesn't fully fix the issue, the music (at least if you have the DirectSong add on packs) still only plays once per area. And the Fire Islands are still (at least for me) unplayable. Possibly because of all the ambient sounds there.

I get occasional sound problems, but it's really awful in the Ring of Fire area. Also, I had the problem of hearing a healing signet on loop for several straight minutes. Anet: Fixplzkthxbai.
