You know, some people actually get FoW armor legitimitely. All you need is a few lucky drops
i.e:
15^50 Req.9 Fellblade
I got one of these and a few other nice drops that went for a few hundred platinum. Last week, I decided it was finally time to get FoW armor for my warrior. I went to RA for some random fun because none of my friends were on and Heroes Ascent only has IWAY mostly (for warriors anyways, unless you're a KD warrior).
Now the problem is, in RA, like everybody starts yelling
"EBAY NOOB ALERT" or "U NOOB EBAYER" when they see my FoW armor.
Why must people who have gotten FoW be discriminated against? FoW is supposed to be a symbol of status, but to most people, what it really is a symbol of cheating...

Cheating? No, I wouldn't say cheating. FoW armor is expensive, at least you did it legit, some others do it but buying the gold and materials from E-bay. Both ways can be used, just one has more profit for the real life person. I have no interest in FoW armor although they look great on a few classes.

1. They're jealous. Your armor looks 10x cooler than their clone armor of full gladiators with Ascalon Helmet.
2. Most people w/ FoW armor are in fact Ebayers. Bored 30yr old men with the money can afford the 50 or so dollars it costs to buy the required materials on Ebay.
Just ignore them. Or better yet, if they call you an Ebayer, just do some smart-ass Emote at them. Start dancing or flexing or something, that'll really piss them off.

some people are just asses especially in random arenas, though i know ive only ever had people say nice fow armor to my mesmer or warrior so it cant be that big of a problem, just ignore them and fight on

I just recently treated myself to the necromancer fow armor and you know what? I worked my balls to the point that I was hearing prot spirit go off in my sleep for it without a single high end drop. I farmed UW so much until I got enough ectos to craft then I kept farming some more for ectos and traded/sold those for the shards and vellum for the craft. The total price was something like 870k.....
Theres a big difference between people who ebay'd their fow armor and peoeple who actually worked for it (without getting a godly wep)
when you craft it and put it on, you feel a sense of accomplishment, this is something you cant get if it took you like a day to get it.

You should be buying fissure armor because you like the way it looks on your character. Like the fellow saying that no "high-end" armors should be added in chapter two because then people with obsidian armor will feel cheated, that was the wrong way to think about it. Whether others think you are an e-bayer or not is irrelevent, you know you got it fairly, and who else matters?

you know i have worked pretty hard to save the gold i have, and now with factions on its way im not so sure i want to get fissure armor now. I m afraid that if i do, better or cooler armor will be available. I know there will be 2 new sets (unless i got my wires crossed). and im sitting on ectos wondering of the value will plummet because of the new armor coming out. whats one to do......

Don't take it too personally. Personally, I've never gotten ridiculed for my FOW armor, luckily, but I wouldn't expect to never get ridiculed eventually. Since you farm like I do, you also earned it. If you earned it, you earned it. End of story.

btw I earned my armour legit and my guild was behind me as I progressed and I farmed griffons for months (before the nerf). After a few FoW chest runs I found perfect fellblades and chaos axe and now...I find myself struggling to play the game. I need something to keep me playing and FoW was a good reason for me. I suppose I could try to break the 4mil exp this week or try to do more PvP if I can stomach the negativity of others because of my stuff. Also people (in PvP) generally have the opinion your a nOOb if you only play PvE as they generally start out that way and progress to PvP. I have to say I have never met a bigger bunch of nOObs in my life than in PvP and dont get me wrong I dont mind explaining skills and attributes with new players.... I like helping others.....the nOObs Im talking about are the arrogant tossers who are rude and wont listen and assume they are correct (especially when they are wrong) and seem to think they arent playing the game unless they are putting others down.
Again...just an observation..dont flame me for pointing out the obvious... no decent PvP'er should feel the need to flame this post... as I said you know who you are and its the other tossers Im talking about.

Do you really care what some 12 year old thinks of you? Getting fow armor is not a ticket to instant respect, try going in HA with it on, it's like a beacon saying KILL ME to the iway W/R's

1. you are in RA. that place is full with people who ONLY pvp. what they all have the generic armor cause they are too lazy to actually play the pve aspect of the game and get some better looking armor. You dont know how much gold i have made selling runes to them all for pvp unlocking purposes! lol

3. most people who are quick to call someone an NOOB EBAYER, is prolly one of them in hiding. I have partial fow armor on my war. Took me 2 weeks of solid farming to get the funds to buy 3 pieces. As many have said.. the feeling of accomplishment you get after slapping that armor on after that amount of work CANNOT BE BEAT!. If some 12yo wants to call me a noob for my hard work out of jealousy, then so be it. Ill just continue having fun playing the game. 9/10 times i get more compliments and questions on my armor, then just the lame-os calling me a noob for wearing my hard earned armor

don't get me wrong here. i know tons of people who have fow armor legitimately. but if you think that wearing it somehow puts you above everyone else, i would suggest doing a reality check. people will discriminate because of that high and mighty attitude.

I always look at FoW as a status symbol for experience until otherwise proven wrong as do most others.
A little riddle.... There are 2 computer game characters, exactly the same in every way except one has rarer FoW armour... which is the best?...forget player input I merely mean in game character. Also by armour I would assume sup runes and perfect weapons with it. So it is possible to have a better character because he has better stuff. Still that wont help you if someone your playing against is just simply better than you so there is character and player skill...different things. I never assume Im better than others because I have FoW because its the person behind the character that makes him better or worse and you dont need FoW set for that. My point is that people aside in the equasion...your online character is better with better stuff.
Indeed people often expect you to wow them when your playing in FoW armour because they expect you to be sooo good.... its a little bit unfair sometimes too.

No its possible some are but the majority are experienced, how can you possible know otherwise other than to speculate a possible drop?
Fact is most people earn it through months of play and they should be seen that way rgardless of the 1 or 2 lucky ones FACT!
Fact most people with FoW are more experienced FACT
Personaly I feel its a burden that others assume you are awesome when sometimes you just want to veg out and go with the flow rather than lead or feel you have to.
So in general FoW armour shows your maturity as a guild wars gamer regardless of a few lucky people.

or put it this way (in case some have missed kakumei's sarcasm): someone makes a monk for the sole purpose of doing solo 55hp farming, grinds the hours to get that coveted armor, and finally gets the armor. does this mean that he will automatically make a good heal or prot monk? not necessarily. not if all he has done is done solo farm.
i don't judge either way. someone in fow armor will get the same treatment from me as someone in drok's armor. yes, it CAN mean that they have more experience, but it also MAY NOT. in cases like that, it's better to be indifferent.
if you went for fow armor because it gave you a goal to strive for in the game, then power to you. if you got it because you think it looks good, then even more power to you. but if you got it because you expect people to treat you better, then uhh... no.

in terms of team based experience, if you chose based on the fow armor, you just lost your bet.
as an indication of experience, that fow armor served no purpose. the monk in fow armor may be skilled or he may not. there really is no way to tell, and judging based on that is like flipping a coin.
and before anyone says anything again, i will assert that I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST PEOPLE WEARING FOW ARMOR. hell, you don't even know if i wear fow. yes, they may be more experienced and skilled, and they may not. i was just explaining the issue addressed by the OP as to why most fow armor wearers get discriminated against. it is because some will expect it to be a status symbol, when it is, in fact, not.
