Level 20 to Level 1?
Lord of the Nazgul
'Lo all, i've been thinking about this ever since I read the first info about Factions, and I'd like to hear some of your opinions...
Don't you think that it would be good if, when you merge your factions account with your Prophecies account and travel to Cantha, that your old, high level characters should revert to level one? I mean, Cantha is going to have its own presearing, right, and you can't have level 20s going around killing level 0 monsters!
What I think should happen is that when you travel to Cantha, your character changes to level one, loses all his attributes, (except for the 30 attributes that he got from the two quests) but keeps his armor, weapons, experience, etc., so that he can do the same storyline as all the other Factions only people. Then, when you return to Tyria, you get your level and attributes back.
I think that this would be a good idea, seeing that many people would complain about not having fun doing the missions, because they dont have a reward for the experience they gain. It would also be more fair and fun for the Factions only people, because they would have level 20s killing all the monsters in the missions, rendering the game unfun, simply because it's too easy.
Now, this might be a really stupid idea, but I think it has its points, and I would like to hear what people think.

I think it should be optional. I dont like the whole leveling thing, and will probably only play through once just to see how the story continues. Will be alot easier just to be level 20. But then there are people who enjoy pve that should have the option of restarting at level 1 but keep their equiptment and all that.

I imagined the Factions 'Pre-Searing' area to be much like Prophecies...leave it and you can't go back with that char. Therefore, I think our chars that are born in Tyria will not be able to visit the Canthan tutorial area, ever. I don't think you'll see any level 20s in Cantha Pre-Whatever unless they were born there.
Haven't heard anything official, that's just my opinion.

The official word is that characters that go from Tyria to Cantha will be dropped in at a level 20 appropriate stage of the game. ANet said in one of the many interviews recently (don't remember which one, which is why I'm not bothering to fish up a link) that while in the Prophecies campaign it takes about 50% of the game before you hit level 20, in Factions it would take only about 20% of the campaign. Therefore, the vast majority of the game will be geared towards level 20 characters and there will be plenty to do for those level 20 characters who come over.
So the level 20 characters that come over won't have access to to the earlier leveling-up stages of the game. However, those leveling up stages will be a minor portion of the game and thus the level 20's won't be missing out on much.

From what I have read about factions and the way I interpret it is that there will be an area in cantha for new characters which is much like pre-searing tyria. I would think that our existing level 20 characters skip this and start in the area which most resembles post searing.

In all honesty, I do not want my level 20 characters to revert to level 1 by any means. We are getting two whole new character slots to PVE through Cantha, which is great but I do not want to have to take my other 8 characters from level 1 to 20 again since it was so tedious to do the first time.
Keep current characters at whatever level they are at; if you want to progress through the game, use the two new character slots.

Does that mean the monsters before you reach lvl 20 will have accelerated XP to compensate and speed up the leveling process? Kind of like a prophecies character will be lvl 20 by the time they reach Lion's Arch??
Grimm
New Canthan-born characters will have a "pre-searing".
Characters from other campaigns (right now Prophecies being the only other option) will have their own story that ties into the same end-game as the native characters.

I would love to have the option to do this, but it should only be an option. A lot of the game-skippers who get themselves run everywhere would probably hate it. Heck by my sixth character I might get sick of it.

Thanks for your opinions all...its's too bad if you do skip the Canthan pre-searing...i'll only be able to do it with my assassin, and I liked the last one. I still think it would be awesome to go back to level 1, because I'm not as motivated to do quests and the like if i'm not gaining any experience. Ah well, I guess I'll have to wait and see...what happens happens, and since it's GW, anything that happens is usually good...

Well, if they reverted, you might as well just not merge them and get two extra slots.

I would hate to reverted and lose hours of getting to level 20, and it is geared to higher level players, with the special elite missions when your faction has control of certain places, and obviously with the ability to merge.

Your Propethics character will be able to travel to Seitung Harbor. You will not be able to get your lvl 20 into the "factions pre-searing". But you will be able to play from Seitung Harbo (the first city u get to after u sear) and continue on the missions.
SirJackassIII
My guess is characters made in Cantha will have an Ascension-like process before reaching the harbor, pretty much making them lv 15-20, and lv18-20 monsters during the first missions starting from the harbor to make sure everyone gets to lv 20 fast.

Keep in mind as well that with the official word being that 80% of Factions is geared towards level 20, post-ascension characters, that the 'presearing' of Factions will no doubt be longer than the Prophecies one and will most likely bring you all the way up to level 20 and ascend you.
Given that the 'presear' of Factions is a monestary you join to train in, it would actually work out pretty nicely if it's all training you up to level 20, you 'ascend' as a test to graduate out, and then are unleashed upon the world.

I think that the pre-sear will only be available for new started charcters and EVERYTHING that you do in "real" cantha is based for lvl 20, or atleast almost everyhing.
