instances

i dont know about everyone else but i think there should be an option or something about instances. i think its cool to have your own map and solo with groups etc. but to have to go back to a town to get a group if you dont want to solo anymore is a little irritating. i love guild wars dont get me wrong but i think there should be some more areas with all players not just missions or pvp. maybe there is i havnt played much yet but what do yall think.
Loviatar
you have towns and outposts all over to socialize in as well as guild halls the instanced part of the game is what makes it good
if you want to gather all over get EQ or WOW etc

It's not unreasonable to feel that way, but how could that be achieved? The point of the instancing is to prevent abuses by other players, things like camping (sitting on a monster spawn point and killing the poor devil before it knows what's happening), sniping (Swiping items dropped by a dead monster before the person who kills it has a chance to), and Player Killing (PK-ing, exactly what it sounds like, only with less honor in the Code of the Warrior sense).
Unfortunately, this also means not being able to wander the countryside and fiinding people, and making friends that way. To fix one, the other has to gets broken, so to speak. I'd prefer it the other way, too, but it's not the end of the world. In some ways this is better, trust me.

I agree with Dave though. What's the point of instancing if you.. well.. trump it all by having non-instanced missions? The way that the GW system works.. just imagine the metaphorical hell it would bring. Guild Wars does not use any sort of "respawn/spawn" method. You kill that particular boss, and he's dead. You can wait two years if you want, but unless you restart the map/mission, he'll stay dead. Now, imagine having multiple teams running in.. Of course, having only one single monster wouldn't work. So, spawns would have to be reinstated. Spawns mean spawn-campers. Spawn-campers mean looting. Looting means swearing, conflicts, and drawn out insult-contests. Sure, I'm painting the worst scenario here, but need I go on?
I really don't wish to be harsh.. but this is the basic underlying system of GW. It seems more than just even a bit unreasonable to ask ANet to change that fundamental foundation, and in changing, become another hyped copy of every other MMO ever made. If you do want non-instanced games.. like others have said, almost every MMO out there has it. GW is special, especially to me, because it works on an entirely new system. This system is at the heart of what the game is.. if it doesn't suit someone (which I'm sure would happen), then that someone is much better off just picking up one of the hundreds of other titles out there.
But I am glad that you like GW. And forgive me for saying this in a somewhat joking tone -- punctuation is your friend.

I don't want this to come across too harsh but, the fact that the game has these 'instances' is what turned me to it to begin with. I quit DAOC and EQII to save up and pre-order this game after I played in the last BWE. The comaradre that you are speaking about should be achieved through joining a guild and making friends within your guild. It is possible that making friends outside of guild could put you in a position where you may need to battle your friend in PVP events. I am sure your comrades in battle arn't going to want you to have a hesitant finger on your trigger button as you decide whether or not you can 'nuke your buddy'. Now don't get me wrong I am not saying you can only have friends within your guild. But what I am saying is that the instance zones that are 'yours and your groups' only are the most excellent concept to fix the kill stealing/ loot stealing / and general people being a-holes while your trying to hunt and get EXP. If you cannot handle the zone that your in, then you may need to go find some help. There are usually plenty of people looking to explore just as well as those looking to do missions. There are plenty of places for you to go and chat make friends. If you did not make it to Lions' Arch or even out of old Ascalon then I can see maybe where your coming from as it is difficult to find friends in the 'training level area'. Anyway.. just my .25 cents on instance zones..... simply they rock.

well i didnt make it out of training area thats why i was questioning. i agree with all of you that the system is great and really new which makes it so great. sorry about the puncuation but i am not at job where i have to type stuff nor am i getting compensated for the way i type so i need not worry about my puncuation and neither should anyone esle. i they cant read or understand the easy to read print on the screen then they have other problems. also i am not attacking you in anyway so please dont take it that way. it is just my opinion. ite!

heading back to outposts or towns isn't that much of an inconvenience. All you do is press "M" to bring up your map and then click on the town or outpost.

Aside from the heavy emphasis on instancing being integral to the way Guild Wars plays, I seem to recall the devs saying it's also integral to the way it operates. The instances keep the bandwidth usage to a minimum, which is one of the key reasons their costs aren't as high, and they don't have to charge a monthly fee. Am I wrong, here? I'm sure I remember seeing something like that somewhere.

[QUOTE=Aria]Someone else recently posted the same thing actually, I think.

I beta-tested Earth and Beyond. I loved it..BUT players camped and looted all the time and you couldn't complete your quests. They just sat out there killing and killing at every quest site and you didn't have a chance. I expect that is why the game is dead now and has been scrubbed. It was such a shame and a waste of an excellent game.

the whole game revolves around instancing. if it weren't for instancing then you wouldn't be allowed to do cool stuff in missions that would screw up the people that would be behind you in a non-instanced area. building bridges and things like that is a result of cool instancing ideas.
Lunarhound
People who don't like Japanese RPG's may not like this comparison, but I think of the PvE portion of Guild Wars almost like playing Final Fantasy or something, except that the towns and, most of the time, your party are populated by real players. It's a bit simplistic, but it seems to be the easiest way to describe it to people who just don't seem to get the idea.

I like the way the game works, but sometimes I wish ( like on the Wilds ) that I could meet up with another group halfway through or something. Or at least make it more then 2, 4, 6, then 8 people in a group. Maybe 20 or so maximum... Okay, not that many, but 8 for every level I wish,

not so much fun now is it?
that is the entire purpose of instancing
to keep groups apart
Aladdar
Lunarhound,
you are correct. Devs had been asked in the past about having large uninstanced hunting grounds and they stated it was not possible to do to keep the bandwith costs where they need to be.
