Yesterday, someone tried to pull a switch on me--they said that they were selling Rago's Flame Staff for 15k. When I jumped on the offer, the put up Rago's Staff, canceled, then switched it out with a Jeweled staff that looked exactly like it.

After I posted in general chat that the person was a scammer, someone else PM'd me soon after and told me that he'd actually bought the staff. I tried PMing the offender, but the user was "offline".

I don't know if I can post his name here, but I'll gladly respond to personal requests for his/her name.

I just got off of playing Knight Online--kind of the ghetto of MMORPGs, rife with con-artists and hackers. From being there, I learned about Fraps...

I've seen fraps mentioned on the forums before, but not in the context of recording a scammer in a transaction.

If you install fraps (it's a free program), and record any type of transaction that occurs while in game, you can have a video clip of said person ripping you off. I think it would be a good idea to have a section that showcases transactions of this nature, so that other people won't get burned.

I also think that an ignore list of 10 people isn't nearly enough.

I say it's way over the edge using fraps to record every transaction you make. It's just plain stupid.

Double tripple check before you accept anything, and if you are scammed then deal with it... in the end it's just a bloody game and since you aren't losing any reallife value if you are scammed, there's no need to get all fussed up about it.

Tis true, but that's why it's vital to give the time and date along with the town and district you're in when you send a scam report. This gives the ANet folks a place to back to so they can check the logs & verify the accuracy of the Screenshots.

has there ever been a resolution of *any* type of scamming? I would be interested to read a story or two on how Anet resolved the issue for someone. as of now Anet is a ghost to me and I would like to see how serious they take these issues.

i aint sure Anet ll deal with a scam case, only when it's is one person who lost one item

it is not like hacking, or exploiting stuff .... i d be surprised to see an action against one person doing this ...

Scamming isnt like using a bot, u r using ppl, not a game bug or something ..

Scamming ll always be present in a game as long it contains any trading elements, u can help with a nice clear trade window, updates to change skins like those things dropped by spider who had the ecto skin some months ago..

u cant do a thing against ppl doing mistakes during trades, mistakes that can be not checking the offered item or also not knowing the values of a item ..

a good example is the ppl buying black dyes in Pre Searing .. that can be called a scam, so what ? ban all the accs that are buying black dyes in PS?

Anet has banned accounts for people scamming if enough people report them (not sure about the dye in pre). They will not however restore money, or goods that was lost during said scam.

Your report X to Anet w/ proof (screenshots) then you get a response that basically says, we will look in to this, you will not get any more communictions or result of your request.
