Still more diffrent types of pvp needed
Draken
Am I to demanding or what, they just put in some new pvp gvg stuff and I still want more . I want some non-competitve PvP besides arena to have fun and kick back so I don't get burned out with the competitive PvP. Games like last man standing or fightning off hordes of enemies until you inevitable succumb. Builds for these arenas would not necassarily be balanced or play well in a competitive pvp setting because it's just fun and games. I also would like some PvPvE either similar to DOTA in warcraft 3 or not, just as long as its entertaining. Or copy some games out of the Tombs and make them arena games i.e. have a capture the flag arena. It's not necassary to have battles and competition always be straight up fights their could be a CTF league and King of the hill leage ect...
Just some ideas I wanted to throw out I didn't post them in the idea thread because I wanted some disscusion on this instead of have it get burried.
I was unlucky enough only to fight in two out of all those pvp arenas even though my guild did quite a bit of gvg we just drew the short straw and only fought in the crypt and wizards keep ugh.

I agree. I love the PvP options in GW, but I also want more PvP options.
How about a PvP arena in Pre-searing Ascalon? I know the Academy has PvP, but I want something like the Ascalon Arena for lvl 5 and lower. I owuld alos liek to see random 6v6 arenas for all levels (a few different ones obviously) as well as 4v4 and 6v6 arenas where you get to choose your party, again a few different ones for different levels (5-10, 11-15, 16-20).
The addition of the Coastal Arena and the other new Arena in the Shiverpeaks(didn't play that one) are great but I was dissapointed that Coastal was basically Gladiators by the sea.

One thing I'd like to see is a PvP practice arena for guilds. It would be cool if you could split your guild up and try out 4 vs 4 pvp or 8 vs 8 pvp (whatever it may be). It doesn't even have to be guilds but just a way to practice against guildmates and with guildmates before going into the GvG matches that count.

maybe have some more teambased options well i think they have CTF. And getting the relics, but why not bring a cursed relic to your enemy? Or maybe Defense (like the ones in custom game in warcraft3) which two teams have to stop incoming monsters from reaching a portal and lets say 100 lives each team so the first team that has 100 monsters in their portal LOSES.
Skizzle the Curado
fighting off hordes of enemys sounds really fun. They could work it in with the defend the wall thing.

I just wonder what PvP types/arenas we aren't yet seeing. It's entirely possible that there are a bunch of things that simply aren't available in the BWEs.
I'd like to see a "run the gauntlet" style arena in both PvP and PvE. Just a long path (or maybe a volcanic island where you can only run around the outer edge to form a round track) with groups of enemies (be it random groups of AI monsters or player teams depending on which you chose) that spawn say 30 seconds after the previous group dies. For the PvP version, it would never end... the winner just goes on each time. You're out when you get defeated. It could be done like the Ascalon Academy, where the PvP battles are limited to 5 minutes or something and the team with the most kills moves on. For the PvE they could make each group progressively harder until it's insane, either in enemy level or enemy group size. It would simply be cool to say: "We ran the PvP gauntlet last night and got through 22 teams!" or "We ran the PvE gauntlet last night and got through 22 groups!" (remarkably similar, no? ).

Yeah the Ascalon Academy was a good gametype and it would be nice to see it on PvP AND PvE if thats possible. I would also like to see PvP but with our RPG characters, obviously it would have to take you through a matchmaking system like on Xbox Live to make sure you are matched with a group with levels as similar to your groups as possible. This is because i dont like the idea of the current PvP, where everyone is the same level and most people used a Pre-made character, because i'd like to use my RPG character that i've spent so long elucidating and building and see how it works against other players.

More PVP options would be nice but even a simpler solution would satisfy me. I would liek to see more random PVP maps, like one in a forest, and one on a mountain perhaps. The more pvp maps the longer the game will appeal to me. I am sick of all the grey rock areas and desert areas for all the arena and tombs missions.

For a change of scenery check out the Coastal Arena accessible from Lion's Arch. It is definitly not the same look as tombs and Gladiator's Arena, although I do agree with you, more maps is always better.

I actually did play a little in the coastal arena it was kinda nice i wish more people played their but pvp characters could not get to it so... Yeah the change in scenery was nice but id like some diffrent games to play to spice things up . I just don't want to get burned out on straight up PvP.

I should think they are making more for final release.

I was in there for a few rounds, but there was never enough people to fight against, unless one team just lost. This was probably because PvP characters couldn't get there and the captain you talk to to get there offeres to take you to the Gladiator's Arena.
The area was nice though, I took alot of screens of my char and of the Marlin (I think thats what is was) in the water.

I've been a little annoyed from time to time when we request more PvP options and hear back "how is what we have not enough?"
To me for a game as based on PvP as this one is it needs tons of PvP options. Tombs is great for a tournament type map, but I want different options. Sometimes I'm not going to want to do guild v guild or tombs. And I don't like the limitations on arenas. At the very least give us some pickup group arenas where we can bring our own group in and choose who we want to challenge. That way a guild can bring two groups of 8 and challenge each other for inter-guild supremacy.

I definetly agree, more PvP games would be awesome along with more maps. While I focused on the RPG side of the game this time I am looking forward to focusing on the PVP aspect of the game next BWE. I'm thinking one thing, remember for the original halo, the RACE game type? I would love to see that in PvP for Guild Wars. There are so many different ways to play and strategize for the Race gametype. You can defend one person as he/she runs around the map to where you have to go or you can all move together and everyone try and complete a circuit. To mark that you are at a nav point you could have them pull a lever that might take about 5 seconds or so, so they cant just run around continuously, you have to have strategy to be able to stay alive. There are just so many possiblities with the Race gametype I would love to see it implemented into PvP for Guild Wars.

I like the idea of being able to setup little pickup games in the guildhall especially if you are waiting for a guild match just something to do to stave of the boredom . This would also allow for a stable enviroment to test various scenarios out with respect to a build which would be nice. Arena is just too random to test stuff out very well.

Well I emailed Arena.net about the whole duels idea, modifying it so that you could only challenge in your guildhall zone, and thus only challenge guild members. Unfortently that thread and the poll on who would like to see this added got locked down .
I think a deathmatch kinda PvP would be very interesting...say like 10 people in a maze of corridors all on thier own team . Make some kind of special Death Arena somewhere. I think it would be so much fun.

I'd like to see more options as well. There are already quite a few but it would be nice to see more. Maybe not by release but they could be streamed to us... right? hehe.

How flexible is the guild war engine? By this i mean how many weird environment effects can it do?
For example, imagine a gametype that is combination race and deathmatch - players start in different locations, you have to get from zone to zone via some set path that'll bring players into close proximity to each other. The purpose is either to kill the player or get to the finish line first. Trick is that each zone has two (or more) paths leading out; first is longer, second is shorter (or, in matches with less people could has some advantage to it) - second would be disabled until the first is used. You'd ideally try to drive your enemy into the first path because they'd die otherwise. Could guild wars accomodate fast gate/portal effects that'd appear after one person crossed a threshold and keep the second from following or even targetting?
