Once you ascend.. you have the option to change your secondary class and collect skills for that. You get skill points every "level up" and refund points every 250 xp

You still recieve exp, but when you level up, you get a Skill point instead. that way you still get attribute point refunds.

Also you get access to more areas in the game. Like the southern Shiverpeaks for example.
