I just heard about the game a couple of days ago and think that it looks really cool. I'm thinking about preordering it to play the beta version, but I have one question. What type of fighting engine does the game use? (i.e Turn Based Combat, Real Time Combat, etc) Thanks.

i would say real time as they will run up and smack you and not wait for you to hit back

I'm always where I'm at, or else I'm nowhere, man.

Real time. A lot like Legend of Zelda or something. Beating a monster is as much about using tactics as getting in more hits, but if hits are what you can do, then hittin'll work. ^_^

combat in guild wars is unique, cause as youmust of heard it as alot of skill to it, and in combat you canattack as long as you have something to atack with. you also have skills, these ussually take adrenaline or energy, so if you run out or what ever you need (adrenaline or energy) you can not use a skill but you can still just do a normall swimg your sword or what ever weapon attack. there are also things other people can do to you to make it so you cant/make it take longer to attack. like is you cast back fire on a monk, he willtake alot of damage(depends on how much skill you have on domination) when ever he casts a spell, so he probably wont cast a spell until your skills ends. also there are skills like amity (i think thats it) where if you cast it on a warrior, he canot attack untill you attack or use a spell. so combat in this game, i would say is real lfe, but it is def. not turn based

edit- wow not only one person snuck in while i wastyping but two!

Question: How do the controls work?
Is it a NWN type combat as in you don't do any button work, but select and sepcial abilities, or is it space swings weapon, left click fires bow, ect?

Movement: Is the movement click based or keyboard control? If keyborad control: can you jump obsticles, roll, scale walls, etc, or is it, again, like NWN where you can use W,S,A,D but you can't jump, duck or anything fancy?

Please be clear, I havn't played Final Fantasy, or any 3D zelda games, so I'm not sure what everyones meant when they compare Guild Wars to these games.

Combat is very button heavy. Your use of your skills is very important.

Movement is both keyboard and mouse click controlled. No jumping or ducking though.

Oh. So movement is pretty identical to NWN?

Could you be more specific about the combat?

You have a bar with the eight skills you select to take with you in the area/mission. You also have a weapon. Combat is usually initiated by mouse clicking the target. To use your skills, you will need to either press a number key that goes with the skill, or click on the skill in the bar to use it.

And the weapon fighting is AI controled? Insofar as striking the opponent, dodging stikes, and parrying?
