Video Cards
Res Surection
How can you determine what video card is good? is it mainly the core clock and memory speeds?
Tachyon
Core and clock speed play a big part, but it's also down to pipelines, memory interface, vertex shaders and memory bandwidth amongst other things!

i see i see, now im gnna give you a link to a video card, tell me how good it is on scale 1-10, 1st on overall then on apg cards.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150096
then send me a link to one that you think is better for around same price or under

I'm an Nvidia man myself, always have been and most probably will always be. However, for roughly the same money take a look at this ATI :-

that is actually very nice, i at 1st liked ati, then turned to nvidia, and now im nuetral, how much does the core clock count for, does the core cloack matter to much, what does it do?
Tachyon
Out of those two, I'd probably go for the ATI as it's got the 256bit interface compared to the 128bit of the Nvidia. My Nvidia has the 256bit interface and it is noticible between the two options.
In all reality you won't even notice that 100MHz difference in clock speed.

what vid card do you have?
Tachyon
In this rig a BFG 7800GTX OC 512MB PCI-e.
Core @ 580MHz
Memory @ 1750MHz
And I believe memory transfer at around the 55GB/s mark.
Planning on getting another one soon and SLi'ing 'em together!

Anyway, if I was going for an ATI card I'd plump for the X1900 range. However I'm an SLi junkie so I'll leave Crossfire until it works right!
Res Surection
yea, i couldnt afford it anyways, remember im 15 and theres no way i can get a job at 15. but... what would you recommend for a mobo and cpu? maybe u can give me one for intel and 1 for amd
Tachyon
Intel? Meh!
AMD is the way to go. Grab something like an ASUS A8N-SLi MoBo (normal, deluxe or Premium) coupled with a 3200+-3800+ Athlon64 chip. You can't go wrong for the money!
Unless you really want to go for dual core, which those MoBo's support by the way! In all reality though you'll have to disable one core to run most games.

hey man, dont want to hijack your thread, but im running a g4 5900 ultra that i spent 500 on when it first hit the shelves. Is this card outdated now or does nvidia have something out thats better. The new egg has nvidia cards that are cheaper but all seem to still be 256 mb ddr. I have always bought nvidia, and probally always will. Never had a problem with one yet.
Seef II
Your card's 2.5 generations old. NVIDIA has much better cards out today.
vRAM size doesn't seem to matter a whole lot when it comes down to GW, but you should shoot for 256 MB.

If you're set on using an AGP card, I'd recommend choosing ATI over NVIDIA regardless. NVIDIA AGP cards have always been problematic in my experience. Now on the flip side of that, if you're not using AGP NVIDIA works great.
[You don't need to keep bumping your threads. Unless at least a day has passed (as threads in this section tend to roll pretty quickly) it's ridiculous to bump, especially after less than an hour.]

ok, this is it,im tired of buying and returning video cards each week hoping to find a perfect one with my little knowlege of video cards, maybe someone can help, i want a serious apg video card 4x/8x in a range of 200$ and under, i know its not a pci-e but im not a rich 15 year old, so i dont feel like buying a new MoBo and Cpu at this moment, all i want help with is finding an excellent overclockable apg card with atleast 12 pixel pipe lines or more with unlockable pipelines so i could have more than 12,
thx for you time, i appreciate it.

Are you absolutely adamant about that 12+ pipelines? I'm not having much luck in finding anything ATI and under the $200 mark that's high-end and has more than 8 pipelines. It looks like NVIDIA might have some though... still searching.
Res Surection
ok, so maybe a 8 pixel that can clock to 12? i tried looking, but with me wat ever looks pretty i think is good, cause im a dumb shit, so watever is good enough will be fine, thx
Res Surection
thx azagoth, im gnna just get that sapphire u suggested.

The best AGP card period is the 7800GS. Other options could be an AGP 6600GT, or a Radeon X850 perhaps.

wat would u say about the Radeon X800GTO 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 AGP 4X/8X Video Card?

Why don't you get a Opteron 165, a new mobo, and then get a PCI-E card?
Opteron 165- $330
Epox mobo- $100
eVGa 6800GS- $160
Best investment you'll make.
