The Grotto - A Guild War's Story
Phoenix Denfer
Greetings!
I have been developing a work of fan fiction over the past year, and now finally getting the words down in e-ink.
Galdor and Raina Alcarin are featured in a short story titled "The Grotto" which is available at http://the-grotto.blogspot.com/.
The story is a work in progress and is being added to as it is written. The Grotto chronicles the lives of Raina and Galdor during the 2 year period between when the Charr invaded Ascalon and the couple joining the Prince for the trek across the Shiverpeaks.
Comments are enabled but moderated to protect against spam bots.
I have been blogging stories based upon virtual characters I have created for a few years, but this is the first time I have attempted a serious fan fiction piece.
I hope you enjoy it as it grows toward completion.

Wow, that was nice. I really enjoyed reading it.
I love the way you're portrayed the characters, and felt like I could relate to them.
Truely inspirational, thanks Phoenix.

You are very welcome, and thank you for the feedback. I've got the third chapter in draft right now, and I'll post here when its added to the blog.
One of the things I enjoy about playing different classes is the different attitudes seen in their expressions they all have. I "feel" completely different when I play my mesmer or my warrior then when I play my ranger. She always seem to have this saddness on her face as if she was doing what she was doing because she had to, not because this is the life she wanted. It got me thinking, what was her life like before and why would she be feeling this way now?
That is when I began invisioning her story.
I normally right light hearted parody type pieces, so this has been quite a change for me. I can't wait for the new chapter to be released to see what that inspires in all of us. ;-)

Chapter three is now up.
I'm sure it will be edited as I keep re reading it for clarity. The most difficult part in my mind is bringing the ends back together without losing the continuity or dragging the pace down.
*crosses finger for more inspiration to get this story out of my head and out in words.*

No new chapter today, but I did find out I had comments enabled for blogger members only.
I have corrected that problem. My apologies to those that wanted to leave comments on the site. It should be working now for everyone.

Excellent, wish I had your talent in writing.

"Galdor and his men arrived to their village engulfed in flames. Fire callers had lay siege on the clan, surrounding them in a ring of fire and debris while warriors on foot pushed through the barrage of arrows. The men in their tree top blinds were holding fast despite the flames lapping higher around them. There was no winning at this point. The only hope for the clan now was to keep the invaders distracted and away from the children and elderly hiding within the decreasing safety of the spring."

The story keeps getting better and better. I just wish each chapter was a bit longer. The suspense is killing me........

hehe...I'm working on Chapter 5 right now. I'll let Galdor's human know you said this as he was telling me the other day the chapters need to be shorter!
I'm happy you are enjoying this story, and should have it updated sometime Monday.

"Raina was eleven years old when her mother began to apprentice her in the art of magic and deception. There would be much to learn such as how to identify specific plants, the making of potions, and learning of incantations."

"Raina’s eyes opened slowly. Still numb from the potion Galdor had given her, she slowly turned her head toward her mate who was tending the fire near them. He had gathered berries that grew in the grotto as well as caught some fish that swam in the nearby pool to make a soup. Beside the soup he kept hot water ready to brew a medicinal tea."

Author's note: I'm going to be taking a short break as I gather my thoughts for what will happen next.
I hope those that have followed Galdor and Raina's story have enjoyed it as much as i have enjoyed telling it. I'll update this thread once I see how part two developes.

Don't worry Raxus, it won't be long. This just seemed like a natural break in the action. I'm already envisioning the beginning of Part 2.
Covenant
It's good, but in the real grotto: (Marhan's Grotto)
Warrior : WOOHOO! (dancing naked)
Ranger : Don't you guys think the Bible is fake?
Necro : I'm such a pimp. (standing with hundreds of elementalist and ranger girls)
Monk : A-Net should nerf the 15k cost of grotto armor! It's so much!
Elementalist : Help! I'm being aggroed!
Ritulatist: Wait, can we be here??? I think we might get banned!
Assasain: U GUYS R ALL NOOBS!!! I PWN U ALL!! STFU!!!!

Lyssa must have directed me to this forum today, because I bring word that I have started writing part II. No promises to when Chapter 7 will be posted though.
I'm hoping to get this back on track before Factions starts up, because we all know what we will be occupying our time with then.

To be honest, my heart skipped a beat when I saw the new post Phoenix. I am awaiting Ch2 with eager anticipation.

Chapter Seven is now available.
"Thunder clapped in the near distance as Galdor stood watch from a cliff near their hiding place. The dark clouds appeared to be heading toward the valley. A cleansing rain would be welcomed now to refresh the air of the smoke and soot. The devastation at the hands of the Charr was complete. Not one green thing remained in what was once a lush and vital forest. Fires were still burning in pockets about the forest, but for the most part it had all burned out leaving smoldering ash. Finding game was going to be a challenge, and he still wasn’t certain how many Charr still occupied the area." read more here

This is awesome Pheonix. Although I can't post from work anymore, I'll keep my eye open from home whenever I see your posts.
