This coming weekend will see the 1,000,000 gold mark for me. Now I know it’s probably chicken feed to some on here but it’s an achievement for me considering how that I give most gold drops, and huge handouts, to guildies, (even decked 2 of them out for monk 55 farming).

Now the thing is the more I acquire the more Scrooge like I am becoming. Maybe this will change when the milestone is achieved, or maybe I’ll get even tighter, not sure?

Your experiences?

I usually get up to about 200k, then I go on a 50k shopping spree. I also give stuff away, usually to strangers. It sometimes amazes me how hard it can be to give away free stuff.

Yeah, if I offer something to someone for free they think I am trying to scam them.

Yeah, because from general experience more people want to screw you then help you in most towns. Like when a guy said this:

Scammer:i'll give u 5 ecto to be nice
Me: catch?
Scammer: no catch, just give me 2k and ill give u 5 ecto
Me: y would U do THAT?
Scammer: cuz im a nice person, just give me 2k
Me: How about we just exchange? lol
Scammer: no give me 2k, i give u 5 ecto
Me: /ignore

Then if a guy said he'd give me ecto, I would now be weary. I have like 1 Mil also, but I think you'll probably feel tighter (like I did). It's natural after hitting such a milestone that you don't really want to go under it.

Am I missing the scamming point here? I can't see why he should be scamming you?

Anyway, the highest I ever got was 400k, then I spent half of it on my warrior and now I still got 200k left. And that's just sitting in my storage.

If that account is accurate it looks like he wanted the gold first then he would give the ecto. Rather, then he would zone out/disappear. The opposition to doing a trade/exchange seems to indicate potential fraud in the works.

Anyway back on topic, I found a break (enforced or otherwise) made me realise that having a large sum of non existant virtual gold isn't the be all and end all, and nice not to be a slave to the farm...

I reached up to 500k...also spent it on a new warrior and maxed it out comlpetally ( 15k armor, sup abs, sup vig, 2x sup sword, 2x sup axe, 2x sup hammer for luitenants and normal helm, 2 gold perfect weapons, around 10 greens, tons of waste dyes etc etc )

Far as money goes, I just think to myself that I have enough to buy anything that I need. (And if I need a req 8 15>50 crystalline...then well...I'll find a way to get the money for it somehow, but thankfully, that's not high on my list of things that I need) The only time where I really had scrounge up money is when I bought my HoD sword for 250k.

Example of why I don't try to give things away. Too many paranoid people.

Now if you put 2k up, and he accepted without putting anything up himself, that is different.

I always have around 200k, even though I farm and FoW/UW/Tombs alot. But the Auction button is just soooo close, and the items are soooo pretty. That, and I think my account was defected when I bought it...I swear there's a hole in my pocket.

My account tends to accumulate very slowly, so I'm hovering at around 57 platinum right now. I tend to hold onto my better items for guildies, which could probably otherwise double my cash if I hawked them to other players. My shopping list is pretty modest anyway, and most of what I need is easy to find in the field

I think the most I have ever had was 25k. Don't worry about money until I want new armor for my latest char. I have greens I will probably never use but don't really like to do the WTS thing.
Too much research involed for some items.

I don't worry too much about cash and only go farming when there's nothing else to do, which isn't all that often in our guild. I must have over 100pp though?

I too have had some hassles giving stuff away. I'll get some "junky" weapons and go to Piken or Sardelac and say something like "Max damage white/blue weapons free to level 10 or less" and have level 20's come ask me for them. I politely tell them to get lost they are just junky whites but OK for a low level and they get all PO'd at me. What's up with that?

I agree. I could have had 1,000 platinum several times over, but what is the point in having money unless you spend it?

Learned my lesson a long time ago...I gave everything that was of no use to me away. I also gave large amounts of gold away to Guildies. Huge mistake. I contantly got requests for items and/or gold. The worst was an honest request for 90k so a Guildie could buy 15k armor for her Ranger. 90k, WTF?

But back to topic, yes, the more I have, the less I spend/give away. When I had 30k, giving 5k away was nothing, now, at 700k, 2k for a salvage kit kills me.

I'm usually around 300K total. (plus 200K guild "bank" money that I hold = 500K)

Over and I buy more vanity armor, nice green itmes, pay for guild mates Drok's armor or help in other ways.

Under and I farm for a while.

I always buy ectos or perfect rare items, its up to you what you want to collect. Seeing stacks of ecto used to do it for me, but not anymore. Now I just buy perfect items, for my collection. You can always buy in FOW armor, but I think it would be worth your while if you waited for chapter 2.

I am sitting just under 100K right now, but usually try to maintain around 100-125K. Everything else I give away to those who need, not those who beg.

Oh, and about 750+ hours.

I am finding now that gold starts to have little meaning and I no longer require it for anything so may aswell buy another set of fow armor or get some nice casting weapons to finish my collection. Screw chapter 2 as none of the armors look remotely appealing for me.

PVP is also looking scaringly attractive

1,000,000 gold? Good job. gold isn't hard to earn but it is tedious. Anet has made it substancially harder to earn gold in the past 8 months. So Job Well done. once ya learn how to make cash its easy to make 100-150k a day though with a i-monk. However dont make the entire game of it. i like you give out tons of hand outs. I basically funded a guild of 20 with 1-2 lvl 20's decked out.
Dont think of giving gold as a gift. Think of it as an investment in your gaming future.

I usually have about 100K. The dye trader has my other 900K.

~Edit - Forgot to answer the original question.

I am a tightwad until I surpass 100K. I don't think I will ever hit 1 million. When I see 150K in storage, I proceed to blow 75K-100K wasting dyes, only to revert everything back to the last color I had anyway. Then I am tighter than your "duck's proverbial" until I pass 100K again.

I have about 600-700 hours, and if I never went on a skillbuying binge, I might have enough for 15k armor. Right now I'm at 12-16k (might buy a new longbow). My wealth is in my faction which right now is about 220k. I don't burn money on anything stupid like req 7 chaos axes but skill trainers are my weakspot, as shown by my thread in Q&A
