Free for all items, should you take them?
Aeris Gainsboroughe
I never pick up good items that dropped for other people. It's no dofferent then stealing people's drops if you ask me. Now like in tombs I will pick up worthless things like non-max white raven staves and stuff. But thats only because the other person most likely didnt want them. But anything that is worth something I will not steal from other players.
TehTomato
A few times a black dye or an ecto has turned over and of course looking at it when it dropped, I knew who it fell for, I will pick it up only because I only trust myself to return it to the guy.
Lord Sabir
If there's a rare drop, and it's unassigned, I only pick it up if:
1) I get there first
And
2) The item hasn't been picked up
That's why I look around after every battle to look for drops.

I say it's cool only if they do not pick it up. I leave things sitting all the time and I don't care if someone gets it after ownership has timed out. What is shitty is people who will leave you dead till ownership times out and then take your good stuff and dip. There is a purpose to having the game establish ownership of drops.
soySauceNR1ce
i dun really care if they don't see it then its there lost, just a game anyways but if the person sees it and is dead or sumthing i'll prob be like u want it if no then i keep otherwise ,if like a black dye droped and they didn't see it and there still alive its there lost. same with me if i don't see an item that i drop and it was for me too bad my lost i'm not going to sit there and cry about it
Batou of Nine
Well. I am like 80% of the people here. I am both yes and no. Yes, if the assigned person leaves/drops, isnt pulling their weight, or is just an all around jerk. No, if all the previously mentioned things are the opposite.
Recently i was in Tombs, in a typical Barrage Pet build. We pass the first level easily. We get into the second level, and are in the second room. In that room we finish off the last mob, and all begin running out to the next area. We begin to aggro mobs of the last room, when i realize that one of our rangers isnt with us. I run back a bit, to find he is sitting at the last room we were in. I ask what hes doing, and he says" oh, just waiting." WTF?!?! I ask why he isnt helping us, and he replies that he is just waiting again.
I run back to the group to help, and he still sites there. 5-10 minutes pass and i see in the text log, XXXX has picked up a Glob of Ectoplasm. WHAT?! So he was waiting to get some1 elses ecto, never attempted to tell the assigned person, and even forced us to work alone, as he waited...
it gets worse... I look up the log to tell the person who was originally assigned the ecto. Way way up the log i find to my horror... IT WAS ME!! I totally didnt see the ecto in all that last confusion, and for some reason the item wasnt highlighted white so i could see automatically. I LOST AN ecto cause of a seflish @sshole who didnt help us in order to steal MY ecto...
People are mean, people are jerks. This is how it will always be, so be careful, and treat othres who you want to be treated. Cause this WILL bite him in the butt someday...

I wish this wouldn't happen, because I have uncontrollable greed when stuff like that happens. -Black Dye Dropped, player Lagged offline, someone else picked it up, I regretted not picking it up
So no, I wish there was a solution like Unclaimed items if you disconnect and such. As selfish as this may sound, I want it fixed.
Batou of nine's situation is sad...

you need a new option so i can vote: yes in certain circumstances.
If we're still fighting (long fight dragging on), the person is dead and waiting for a res or that person had to go afk in the middle of the fight, no I won't.
If said person is alive, we're not fighting and in fact everyone else has begun to move on to the next mob, yes, I'll pick it up. If they ran straight past it, that's their fault. If it happens to have dropped behind the fight (say the monster was attacking the monk and its the warriors drop) then I would draw attention to it first and if they still ignored me/didn't want it, then it's mine

Depends on situation, if an item drops and the character is leaving things (whites, materials) and it's appreant they don't want them, yes.
If a person is dropping items say to make room covert then pick up, they really need to say so, if they drop it, I will 'pause" for a short 10-20 seconds before considering it pick it up.
If something nice drops but the party is distracted for some time (fighting waves of monsters, that monk elite that just won't die, dead and need to finish off mob group before res, etc) for it to become "open", they I still think it's there's and let them have it.
My favorite is Skillcap groups, and long missions (SF) where everyone jet's, when it's done then you have a tone of whites that no one wants or there two that stay behind to clean up after everyone else is gone.

I agree with what was stated above. People like NinjaKai should be shot. When I realise that there's an asshole on the team, when the tema starts dying and they fall back''especially with a rare drop'', I quickly run back too, as soon as the drop is cleared the person would run for it, I sprint my ass there and grab it, rez the dead people and hand it over by trade.
I hate low people, I wouldn't steal a drop if I were 1k short of buying a 15>50 crystalline.

I never pick up valualbe stuff which droped for other players, and I expect everyone on my team to do the same.
Think about what would happen if everyone would expect you to steal there stuff, once it got free. Monks and other squisy targets would run right into the enemies to get there drops right away, warriors would break aggro to get stuff, etc. Really, fights would be more difficult, the whole party might get whipped out because of it.
Do you really want such an situation?
The only thing preventing it, is that you can trust people not to steal you stuff, and not doing it yourself. But I never had like that in my team, so I guess most people don't do it.

As of my posting this, 55 percent say yes. Yup, that pretty much sums up the moral character of the average player.

You should never pick up a valuable item assigned to another player.
Most people in games are decent. Ive seen many people go so far as to let a player know he /she has a purple, gold or ecto drop, etc., if it wasnt picked up right away.
Once low level items become unassigned some people will pick them up to salvage or sell, I dont think anyone cares about this sort of thing.
kind of a funny ingame story about just this thing-
the group was near the end of map 2 in UW Tombs when one player announced he was afk. Well, a player going afk it is such a normal occurance in game that even though we dont like when someone suddenly goes afk, we more or less just accept it.
No more than a minute later one member of our group noticed that the afk guy had slowly drifted his suppsedly inactive character over to the other side of the area we were all fighting in.
The afk guy had noticed an ecto drop that was assigned to our monk. Since the monk was good and kept himself busy keeping us alive he had not bothered to pick up the ecto, but was aware of it sitting there.
The afk guy was standing next to it waiting for it to become unassigned. Once we noticed we all stopped fighting and the monk ran over to get it.
It was kind of funny since the afk guy was caught in the act, but we didnt really think to highly of him for the rest of the game.

54% say yes.....sad.....at least some of them probably voted yes based of circumstances of a situation.
As for this guy:
"tee hee i would pick it up first chance i get if the name ahs gone i dont know whos it is and dont really care if i can get its mine i dont want to sound harsh or anything but it is only a game"
Ignore this person's ideaology. They are wrong. Game or not, the issue is respect for your fellow player, if you fail to respect them when they have done you no wrong, then you are a pitiful person.
It's not a good thing that people forget that not every set of pixels on the screen is a completely soulless sack of bits and bytes. Some have living breathing people attached to them on the other end.

No, I don't pick up other people's drops. Usually I'm with my guildmates, but we point out any team member's drops if they have missed them. Once in a Tombs run with a random warrior, a phantom key dropped for me. I died shortly after that and made a comment about hoping to live to get it.
This was the part where you kill the terrorweb dryders on each side first, and that's where it dropped. The battle went on long enough for the key to be unassigned, so when I went looking for it, it was gone.
In team chat:
Me- "where's my key that was up here?
A guildie said "(warrior's name), that was Sophie's key you picked up."
W- "it didn't have a name on it"
Me- "it did when it dropped!"
I didn't say anything else, he never gave it to me and later at the chest he opened a trade window with me and showed me a blue raven staff, saying that was what he got with the key. Telling me I guess, that it wasn't a big deal. This was from a chest that everyone else had gotten golds from, which proves again what a dunce he was.
Having said all that, any white drops that are still on the ground when we run back through an area, most of us pick up to salvage.

If he/she died because they're an idiot, then yes, they don't deserve the drop. IF they put the party in danger of losing out on whatever quest/mish they're on, they should be killed immediately and forfeit all items in their inventory.
EternalTempest
If someone misses a nice drop, purple, key, good dye, and they forget about it, I always point it out.
There was one time that a dead monk had a nice drop and our party was getting killed (we lost) I raised him (while still alive) so he can run and get his shard before we were all doomed / it was a long time since it dropped to prevent other players not near the death to be able to grab it as soon as it went unclaimed.
(Note I did not vote since my answer above is conditional)

I voted no, mainly because of all the times someone in the group has warned me that 'you've got a shard left behind' or such....
The only exception would be when a leecher/jerk got a nice drop and it times out, but as far as my experience goes, these types of people never miss any of their valuable drops
Maybe just because they're busy looking at what drops rather than helping people out ^^

I pick up the item regardless. If the person for some reason wasn't able to pick it up themselves, say they were dead, too busy with other stuff or out of reach, I've give it back to them.
Like one time in PvE Tombs, a Battle Axe dropped from the first Darkness and it bugged out and somehow appeared way below ground. Noone could figure out where it was but I had seen something like this before and stepped back to the bridge, hit alt, clicked on it, then walked up to where it dropped and hit space when it timed out. I then passed it over to the person it dropped for.

would have voted, had there been another couple of options...
you need..
3. yes, but only if player xxx is a jerk/freeloader/asshat
4. yes, but only to stop the ninja looter/asshat/protect a fellow guildie/friends drop when they are up to their ass in buggouts
5. no, but if they reply they dont want it, i will
6. no, but i do scavenge on the return trips, when their whites or salvage.
guess its a number 4 and a number 6 mainly for me....
i have never had a realy GOOD drop in a group...i guess the best drop i have ever had was a saphire outside ascalon city when i was niping over to get some salvage stones, and a stone elemental dropped...i was shocked
(thought they only dropped in high level critter areas lol)
since i tend to pay in groups with friends, or friends of a friend...i dont have that problem...
never been to UW or Tombs, so i have yet to experiance the fun of being left for dead while some smacktard waits for my drop to go unasigned...

okay, i was in tombs a few days ago, and an ecto dropped when the party was dying, you know at lvl 2 where the dryders are. so we regrouped and by the time we cleared off, my ecto is free for all to pick up. this guy goes off and picks it up and said he had to go. okay that was sad, but bear with me
so by that time we had 3 rangers, 1 necro, and me left, everyone decided to quit. i tried to zone out also but it was giving me err13=D u guessed it, they rolled the game back and i lost all the tomb stuff =DDD.

well, there you have the Vengence of the Server gods, ange1
the traders just got so sick of the ninja looters, they threw a fit and sold everything at fire sale prices, and they they roled back
and to those peeps that DO the looting....
remember what you do, you get back three times worse.....maybe in game, maybe in real life...

I have on several occasions picked items up for people and given them back once we are in town. I also make it a habit to calling attention to good drops since some people miss them when there is a lot of action going on.
I have been on the other end of the stick and delibertly not resed until my drop turned so someone else could grab it. I have also have had someone say they were going afk for a minute and would catch up to the group. To find out they were only really waiting for a black dye that I had drop and did not know about turn so they could get it. They only reason I knew it happened was they had the audacity to brag about it after they picked it up.
Moral of the story "watch your drops!"
Jakerius
If the person has left, I'd say it's okay. But if it's become free, the person who it was assigned to has completely ignored it, or otherwise indicated that he doesn't want it, then you MUST call it. If somebody's called the item, then you pick it up, you're scum and should probably be shot.

With items, people will only forget things if they
a. Don't care about drops OR
b. Are completely oblivious to everything around them.
I'll pick up stuff if I want it. If I see a gold in front of me that someone has blatantly ignored, sure I'll pick it up.
I've only ever seen 2 gold items unbind that were worth something.
I've never EVER seen someone forget an Ecto or incredibly rare item, but if they do its their own fault.
I've also never been in a single battle long enough to unbind items, aside from THK. Its always in an area that we backtrack to. It happens occasionally in Thirsty I guess... but those aren't really individual battles.
Basically I'll pick em up when I see em. You can say "Oh I'll never play with you!" but I probably won't notice anyway. GG.
