Would someone please let me know what the "Best Sword" is in the game. Alot of warrior builds say "best sword" but what is that.??

A wepon rundown would be nice. Just like the rune and armor listing.

There are no 'uber' weapons in GW. So I wouldn't say there is any 'best sword' but there are 'good' swords.

While it's what most would say, my money's on the dragon sword.

It affords you pure elemental damage and still gives you room for two more upgrades.

It's the sword that Rurik carries.

...now if only he'd drop when it died (oh so very often).

It does seem like the Dragon Sword is the most popular sword of the game, at least once you start getting to the Lion's Arch. Luckily, I found myself a nice rare Dragon Sword whilst drake hunting right at the end of the event, so next event I'll have to check it out and see how much I can sell that bad boy for

Dragon swords look nice but aren't actually any better than any other sword. What "best sword" means is a sword that's at maximum damage, with a max modifier, and max upgrades that best suits your build. There are a lot of mods and upgrades and there are a lot of ways to take advantage of them so it really varies not just from build to build but from person to person.

Personally, I look for +weapon speed with Zealous, or +dmg. But you want them on a sword that does that 16~22 maximum damage or whatever it is these days.

Believe that swords top out at 15-22 (min-max) as of last beta.

And yes, having mods that correlate with one's build type is always best.

And Dragon swords don't always have a max 22 dmg, so they aren't always the "best sword" out there. Any sword with a max of 22 dmg and some nice stats (either found on or you added yourself with upgrades) is what you really want when you get to high lvl.

I think that Dragon's Sword that was dropped is at max damage then, from what I remember at least. Finding out all of this stuff has made this day a great day, even as I continue suffering from my lose of sleep due to too much playing time on Guild Wars last weekend.

But yeah, any sword with the maxed damage could be considered the best, as long as you have a nice hilt to add and customize it. Everything depends on what you like, there's a lot of freedom to create your "best" sword.

Not all Dragons swords are that great ....
For instance, I found a dragon sword that was white (yes, not a rare) ... it was still the max damage however.

Another dragon sword I found only did elemental damage. (sure it can be upgraded), but I just wanted to emphasise the fact that some dragon swords, are actually quite ordinary... However, when it comes to looks, the dragon sword is the "sword of choice".

On another note, some dragon swords can have great stats ... But yes, there are other swords that do the same damage range and can have great attributes.

Personally, the Vampiric swords (life steal) are a good option as are the Zealot modifications (+1 energy per hit -1 regen). Anything with + damage (preferably without the while health is below 50%).

And the pommels and hilts and their attribuites.?

I have seen people walking around with a flaming sword, like Rurik's, what is that, and how much on average do they cost?

Thanks.

Rurik's Flaming sword is a Dragon Sword and cost alot of gold since nearly everyone wants one.

As for other swords, there are Butterfly Sword, Falchion, Long Sword, Brute Sword, and Galdius. I'm pretty sure they're are more, I just can't think of them right now.

You can upgrade both Pommel and Hilt of a sword. Off the top of my head the types of hilts I remember are Furious(bonus to Adrenaline), Zealous (energy on hit), Firy (fire damage), Icy (Cold Damage), Ebon (Earth Damage), Shocking (Lightning Damage). Pommels (again off the top of my head) are Enchanting (lengthens enchantments), one that lengthens Deep Wound, one that lengthens Bleeding, and one that increases attack speed.

Some of the above could be in the other catagory (hilt or pommel), I'm not sure if I got them right in that way.

I thought it was one of those. Well, I wonder how much one will cost, and then to get a fire damage hilt and some good pommel.

There are also sword upgrades (I can't recall if pommels or hilts) that increase your max life and armor. And +% dmg ones can be factored by life over 50%, life under 50%, if you are enchanted or if the opponent is hexed I believe, and probably other factors too.

There are also Forked Swords, Flamberges, and Spathas. I can't recall everything off the top of my head. There's just so much cool loot to keep and eye out for

Ah, but then you have to waste an upgrade on elemental damage where a dragon sword has it built-in. Unless you don't want elemental damage. Since they changed the Conjure element skills, it's something I pretty much now require...

Which is precisely why I lauded the dragon sword as my choice one.

Affords you, in effect, three mods on the weapon rather than two.

True the Dragon gives you an extra upgrade and allows one conjure to be used without upgrading the sword, but what if you wanted to use Conjure Lightning or Conjure Frost? Are they planning on making Ice Swords and Energy Blades?

As much as I like that the Dragon Sword gives you an extra mod on it, I'd rather stick with a normal sword with other mods, or mods that I can use. (W/E with Water Magic). At least this way I can afford to buy the sword I want.

i was just wondering, i had a sword 15-22 dmg (non dragon) which was +13 dmg while health above 50 and 10 precent armor piercing (with prop 9 percent). so what was your 'best sword' you had?

15-22 Sword with intrinsic +15% conditional damage modifier, zealous (+1/-1) hilt, swiftness (+10% speed) pommel.

Pick your favorite model, it doesn't matter in the slightest.

Or can u only put them on a dragon sword that has no current upgrades on it.

mickyo, thank you for digging up a thread that is like a year old...

There is no upgrade like: Dmg in stance, that has to come with the sword itself

There are upgrades for bleeding, it's called Barbed...
too bad you cannot put it on a FDS, because the fiery upgrade won't come off

Honestly I don't know if there is a true "best". There could be a "best" suited for a situation or play style. I see the dragon sword mentioned. While that sword would be great against a warrior, since it will negate his physical damage bonus. It will be less effective against a Ranger due to their elemental bonus kicking in. Some people like vamp mods others like furious or zealous.
+30 health or +5 armor. It really is dependant on your play style and situation you're in. I find it's always a good idea to have another weapon set to switch too. Because of that I find there really isn't a "best".
