R/W

Working off the success of my joke topic, I revived my Iron Mines running build for a R/W. It's pretty durable, especially for a Ranger, and it *should* be capable of tougher runs.

Attributes:
Wilderness Survival: 8 + 1 + 3
Expertise: 11 + 1
All remaining points into Tactics

Skills:
Troll Ungent (Your health is here)
Endure Pain (To give you enough time to get to your health)
Balanced Stance (You CAN NOT do this run solo without this skill)
Whirling Defense (In case you get surrounded, use this until you have Escape again)
Escape {E} (Running Skill #1)
Storm Chaser (Running Skill #2)
(Utility) I use Watch Yourself! in this slot. It didn't seem to help all that much, to be honest
(Utility) I use a Res Sig in this slot. That way, I can be of some use later on.

Other Equipment: A -2 While in Stance shield. You can get a lovely one in the desert.

Pretty simple gimik here, alternate Storm Chaser and Escape to keep up a perpetual run. Obviously you don't want this all the time, but it's ok on this map. Just lets you get to the hard part a bit quicker is all. For those of you that don't know how to do this, just wait until the stance icon in the corner starts blinking before you switch stances. If you wait until it starts blinking quickly (1 second warning mark) then you can increase your window a bit.

Once you get to the Shadows, you should only use speed buffs to get away from them. Wait until you start taking damage, then Balanced > Endure > Troll > Tank your way through. You will have to do this twice, once for after the bridge, then again at the entrance to the cave.

Everything else for this build is just plain ol' WASD. This build is also effective for getting from place to place in the desert.

There are some dangers with this build: You have no way of removing hexes or conditions. As such, it's a bad idea to use this build as is in a hex heavy area, like the Drok's run. Unless you're really good. Unlike me.

Also, I have a screeny to show that this build does indeed work. Trouble is, I died while doing this. On the plus side, I found an interesting glitch. I'll let A.Net know about the glitch, so don't count on being able to exploit this.

And the glitch is? Can you tell us without revealing the details of how it is done?

What I dont understand is why you had to mention the glitch you probably pretended to find? Promote your topic?

I use Vital Blessing in there more, both as a cover enchant and as extra health... then I'll cast Holy Veil where necessary.

My build...

Heal: 8
Prot: 8
Expertise: 12 + 1 + 1
Wilderness: Whatevers left + 1 (I believe 10 at end)

1- Escape
2- Dodge
3- Storm Chaser
4- Shielding Hands (don't use too often, but it helps in some areas)
5- Healing Breeze
6- Holy Veil
7- Vital Blessing
8- Mending

Cast Mending then Vital, incase you get hit with a strip it'll get Vital first. Also know what enemies you're facing and get coverups where necessary, or extra healing also. If you're in a condition heavy area you could switch out Shielding for Purge, but I prefer to use Shielding to tank it out (if necessary) cuz if you get Crippled, you'll more than likely get Crippled again trying to break out of the one you're in. I can run from Ascalon to the Desert, and the Desert using this build (haven't tested the new Sanctum yet as I haven't gotten a chance to play), and I can run to and through all of Maguuma. Its not really all that hard using this setup, but it does take a bit of practice so you don't get lost.

Alright guys, 2 things:

1) The glitch. Notice how many are in my party. Notice my Death Penalty.

I died at the exact moment the cutscene started, thus allowing me to get to the Seer. Without failing the mission.

2) Ok, for you R/Mo runners, how do you prevent the knockdown that the Shadows inflict on you when you get up to that point? Just heal through it? Wouldn't Spell Breaker be a better choice?

ya this is a really friggen easy run... i just do it whenever a pal needs it w/ whatever secondary prof i have on. escape gets u past the giants. then just troll unguent while all the shadows at the end lay sig-o-judgement on your and run the rest while their sig is recharging
