To the admins--how do you plan to bring Chapter 2 into this website? Just leave it as it is, or add new catagories, or......

just curious
thx

Well, that's a good question actually. All the fansites are experiencing this as well as trying to come up with a way to deal with future chapters. If you have any suggestions we'd be more than open to hear them and would love for your input.

How about a nice and simple redesign....something other than beige colors.

Yeah, beige seems to be the "neutral" color for a lot of sites out there. But I was talking more along the lines of, how to set up the forums. Or how to differentiate between prophecies and factions on the site.

never realized the problems a stand alone expansion would cause to gaming forums untill just now.

i see your options as.

leave everything the way it is and keep adding new chapter content, making searching for relavent chapter specific info next to imposable ( or worse when search is disabled)

make what you have so far a linked chapter resourse and add new forum sections for each new chapter containing chapter specific resources.

keep what we have so far as proficies specific add a new section for each new chapter and a new section for linked.

the first choice would make the site alot less valuable to the users and all the other choices i can think of would be alot of work for site staff.

good luck. d

I would think keep the basic structure there. Colors, Design ,etc. You could have a whole new area on the front page (Home) that directs you to just Faction data. The Forums you can just add more sub forums.

I wouldn't overthink it. Seems you all have enough problems keeping the "Nuts & Bolts" of the site working smoothly. The path of the least resistance would be my thoughts on that. Keep it simple.

sub forums for each section and subsection for each standalone expansion?
within a year and 1 month that would quadrouple the sections on this forum.
i think everything other than the forum (skills, traders, etc.)would be semi easy to manage with just making sortable by chapter.

allso what if we maintain the same percetage of people who own guildwars using guru?
roughly 1 million GW players = 2k average guru users with peaks over 5k
add roughly 500k new players and 1k average guru users and 2.5k peak users per standalone expansion.

and within no time the forums will be grinding to a halt.

i really see the only logical and user friendly solution to treat each standalone expasion as its own game in regards to forums with another section for linked.

web page:
how bout making guildwarsguru.com the main guildwars infor page (for all relevent chapter's contents (news updates etc.)) and move the current main (prophecies content) to guildwarsguru.com/prophecies the page for main game content and create guildwarsguru.com/factions for the factions content

forums:
add "Canthan explorers league", create subforums for GW:P and GW:F skills in scrolls of insight, add the new pvp subforums (if needed), create subsections for sardelac sanitarium, new subforums for assassin and ritualist discussions (campfire)

thats what i would do (for ease), but its a LOT of extra server space/load

Here's my input:

We need three forum 'areas' - Tyria/Battle Isles, Cantha, and something for all round or off topic stuff.

Tyria/Battle Isles
Questions and Answers The Riverside Inn Sardelac Sanitarium The Campfire Tyrian Explorer's League Arcane Repository/Scrolls of Insight The Battle Isles - sub-divided into TA, GvG, HA, and General
Cantha
Questions and Answers A new forum like Riverside A new forum like Sardelac A new forum like Campfire - including Assassin and Ritualist, as well as the old professions - new builds with new skills A new forum like Tyrian Explorer's League A new forum like Scrolls of Insight/Arcane Repository New PvP?
Blah
Off-Topic & the Absurd Arts Lyssa's Fiction Lore Screenshot Exposition Community Works Technician's Corner Site Feedback May seem like a lot of forums, but it keeps things well organised and divided up for specific things.

Actually, I think maybe this might be better:

TyriaQuestions & Answers The Riverside Inn Sardelac Sanitarium Tyrian Explorer's League

CanthaQuestions and Answers A new forum like Riverside A new forum like Sardelac Canthan Explorer's League
Core Guild WarsCampfire (With all 6 professions) Arcane Repository/Scrolls of Insight The Battle Isles - sub-divided into TA, GvG, HA, and General
BlahOff-Topic & the Absurd Arts Lyssa's Fiction Lore Screenshot Exposition Community Works Technician's Corner Site Feedback
Just to keep the core concepts (core professions, pvp, skill discussion) non-chapter-specific, since they'll apply to all chapters. (Although thinking about it, Assassins and Ritualists won't be core, so perhaps the A/Rt build forums should be under the Canthan section. Not my call, though...)

I think Calamity has a decent setup, but I'd stick a "Faction Wars" category under Gladiator's Arena.

2 Q&A forums aren't that necessary; people post every single thread in Q&A and the main forums anyway. I'd just make Canthan Explorers' League, and make a forum for the new conquest places.

The only necessary changes I believe will definitely need to be added are the Assassin and Ritualist build forums, new PvP areas to the Gladiator's arena, and the Tyrian Explorer's Leage split into subcategories for each chapter.

Sardelac should remain one forum as it is suggestions and therefore is not limited to a single chapter.

Also, remember that we'll need to accomodate every expansion released, and therefore need to keep things condensed.

I just realized how much MOVING of threads I'd be doing if there were two, all the confusion trying to sort between general updates, suggestions for future chapters, updates for factions content or normal content, etc. That'd suck. Definately keep the sanitarium as only one board.

What I really wonder is, what are you guys planning to do for the worst? Like there are 10 chapters, that means 24 classes (assuming no new race). 24 subcategories?

I suggest making specialized build forum.

Nuking section
Melee weapon section
Missle weapon section
Summoner section
life saver section
Utility section
etc.

my 2 cents... havent really thought about thist =/
