Do we get new character slots for the preview?
Toxic RD
For the preview weekend will we get 2 new temporary character slots for the new characters, or do we have to supply the slot ourselves?
Lasher Dragon
Well, I would hope that we would get 2 slots for the preview, but the way things have been going, I'm certainly not going to hold my breath.
swordfisher
If it's like before, you can use the preview key they give out. It'll give you at least one slot seperate from your main account, so no need to delete.
Zaxan Razor
No, you won't get a new slot for the preview.
Has been mentioned by Gaile several times. Just make a new account with the preview key, or send an invite to yourself.

no slot for the preview.
u have 3 invites, just create a new account and auto-invite for factions event.

Lambentviper
when is the factions event?
March 28?

Loviatar
and since they reset the character anyway you lose nothing.

It seems like it would be a better "beta" if they did add new char slots, that way they can test out how much server room they need more accurately

You guys are right that there are no new char. slots. However, depending on the content, there may be some use to sticking with your current account for unlocking items, runes, and skills (maybe) for use at final release. Not a big deal, but I'm certainly sacrificing my rarely used PvP slot to hold my assasin name and get unlocks for the release.
TheMosesPHD
Well I've got my trusty PvP slot so no worries for me about needing a slot.

The way I understand it, you don't get any new slots to your existing prophecies account so if all 4 of your slots are full, you'll have to delete a character to make a new one during the preview. The other way like others have mentioned is to send yourself an invite and make a whole different account under a different e-mail. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
If you use your prophecies account during the preview, I believe any assassin or ritualist skills you unlock stay unlocked when you start up factions. But as stated, if you don't have 1/4 slots free, you'll have to free one up for the preview.
If you make a new preview account, you don't have to do anything to your prophecies account, but any skills you unlock will probably be lost after the preview since the preview accounts are probably deleted after the event.
All 4 of my slots are full so I'll probably just send myself and invite just to try out the new classes.

sorry if this question has been answered over and over, but can we bring existing pve characters over to the event?
TideSwayer
I believe the official word for the beta is no access to Tyria or Tyrian characters/storage/etc. whatsoever, and no matter what you unlock or find during the beta weekend it is all going to get deleted anyways. Just use an invite to make a spare account for the beta if you don't have enough slots, because the beta is simply going to be a test and not a headstart. You start in Cantha, stay in Cantha, and as far as the weekend beta is concerned Tyria may as well not exist at all (unless, of course, you are simply playing Prophecies campaign with your main account.)

I believe Gaile said something we unlock for the core classes is that much you wont have to unlockat release, Though don't quote me on that.
Manic Smile
that only helps pvp though...I think I'm going to farm during this preview while everyone is away and just play allnight with that extra early start thingy

The FPE won't offer extra slots. Sorry! Just thought I'd answer that one. You can either set up a dummy account with one of your in-game invitations or you can wipe a PvP character to play the new characters in the event. |
swordfisher
You mean, play Prophecies and ignore the preview now, but pull an all nighter on the day before release (which you'll be able to play with a preorder)?

Those who pre-order gain access to the game 24 hours in advance April 27th, if you don’t have the retail version key by 11:59 PST on the 28th then you have to wait till it comes in to continue to play.
It’s not clear if the pre-order key only will allow you merge accounts to have the full six slots. Of if you will have to wait till the retail version to gain those extra slots.
So yes if you want to skip you can skip and wait till the April 27th.

Can we get an official word (or previous quote of an official word) as to whether skill unlocks during the PvE Beta will stay on our account? I've been hearing people say both sides (unlocks will stay or get deleted afterwards), and I need to know whether or not to just scrap the new character I made and use that slot for the Beta event or just not bother and make/use a new spare account entirely. Obviously if we can obtain permanent skill unlocks I'd like to use my main account.

I kept the skills I unlocked through the PvP weekend (even still had the Assassin until a couple weeks ago because I didn't need the slot), so I don't imagine it being any different. It provides as much as an advantage as staying up all night to start playing it while everyone else is sleeping, so not much at all. When also considering time zones and who has to work or go to class, etc., it's always going to be slightly imbalanced like that.
It's also kind of silly if you think about it. If presear was the only area (bear with me), and they had a "beta weekend" for post-searing, would you be worried about keeping your Wild Blow skill? You might have to go through all that trouble to get it again!

Can't say that i can answer any of the questions above. But on previous games I've played, when running beta testing for upgraded versions the beta version is normally carried out on a totally seperate server to the main game and does not link to it in any way. Hence no access to your storage or main chars and a seperate key. After testing the whole lot is deleted. I've even known us test 2 or 3 beta versions before the update has been released. You can probably expect more crashes and bugs than normal as teething problems are sorted out too, so I'm in no rush to buy it.

Gaile's chatlog from last night (first part) had her stating that any skills unlocked during the Factions Preview Event will remain unlocked on your account. It's just the items and stuff that won't. Here's her direct quote: (it's in the link about halfway down the log)
"Tons of new skills for you to try out. And what you unlock will remain unlocked on your account."
Looks like my pre-searing Necro will have to be put on 'deleted hold' until after next weekend then. I need that 4th slot.
