Best class to get all skills?
giroml
What I mean by this is, what is the best primary to synergize with all 5 other secondaries with the end goal to be to unlock as many skills as possible with one primary character class. From the bit of research at these forums it seems to be either Warrior or Ranger. Thoughts?

Id say any class that can solo because you will need alot of skill points to UAS.

I would say base the primary class of said character based upon where you want to do your "end game" farming ... IE, where you would earn the most experience.
Doing UW and quest rewards comes to mind, as well as Sorrow's quests/runs.
I would cast my vote for Monk, if either of the above appeal to you (plus the bonus of never having to look for a group pretty much wherever you go

I vote monk as well. The 55 build comes to mind, but for pure XP purposes, going with teams to clear FoW/UW provides massive rewards for skill points. The gold that comes along should help you break even as well if you're buying the skill points.
UAS will become a longer task with Ch2.
Also, do not forget that you can unlock using faction, and in that case, a monk also comes in handy, too.
To answer Frickett: once something is unlocked (either by faction or skill buying), it is available to PvP toons. When a skill is PURCHASED with skill points by a PvE (roleplay) character, it is available only for that character. Further example: Monk on new account buys Arcane Echo in Beetletun. This becomes an unlocked skill and now is available for new PvP toons to use. However, when the new account builds another PvE/Roleplay character, they will have to buy Arcane Echo for their own use.

if you unlock using faction does it unlock for your other characters (pve and pvp)?

I would say warrior, ranger or monk. Pick a primary you enjoy, and with any of these, you can effectively use any secondary, or create a build with only primary skills.
My warrior and ranger both normally use builds that ignore secondary skills.

Thanks for the replies. One other question: Say I switch secondary class after finishing the PvE game with a Warrior/Monk to say Elementalist. Can I go back and do all the Elementalist skill quests for unlocks?

You can do the class-specific skills in Ascalon and Yaks. After that, you'll have to buy the skills. You'll get about 8 free skills this way. The rest of it is via the long battle for XP.

I'd say Warrior or Ranger - Warrior for the versatility in farming spots and general sturdiness, or Ranger for having the (imho) most balanced armor/energy regen combo.
You can do the initial class specific class quests in the beginning, which are 3 or 4 different NPCs IIRC for each class .

just deleting your character and replaying the game is easier to get all the skills via skill points

Mesmer. That's what I'm doing anyway, I can farm UW, and many other places. I've done Ranger Spike groups before, I can do just about anything. And since Fast Casting is pretty general, I can use it for anything. Elementalist and Necromancer are also good choices that come to mind. Strength, Expertise, and Divine Favor are only useful to one class on the other hand, and although they may seem like a better choice, I really don't think so. So far on my mesmer I have all Mesmer, Monk, Necromancer, and pretty soon Ranger Skills. I went for ranger because I wanted a spider to use for the hell of it. Next I'm going to do just some of Warrior and Elementalist and slowly work up on what's most useful and what I need unlocked. But mostly I get core skills and saving up some points for Ritualist and Assassin.

I completely say Monk. It is a very versatile class. Say you want some major XP go farming in UW with a necro pal and do the first few quests, BOOM tons of xp and even some ecto and golds along the way. If you want to do some Sorrow's Furnace you can get tons of XP there by playing bonder. If neither of those appeal to you, go solo farming wherever you feel fit. If you really just need some xp I recommend the trolls outside droks with double xp scrolls. You almost always make the gold to buy another scroll and make the xp much faster.
You asked about quests. I think what you are asking is if you do a quest as say mo/w to unlock skills, you cannot do that quest ever again to unlock that quests skills for say mo/me.
Hope that all makes sense and helps.
EDIT: Kai, would you be willing to PM and give me some more info on the mesmer with what all it can do? I might be making one soon and would like all the help I can get with it.

The mesmer is quite the versatile class, as are all caster classes. You can do the 55 thing with all casters as a */mo. What the mesmer brings to the party is fast cast as well as some very nice debuffs and energy management skills. Additionally, there are troupes of mesmers that are doing all-mesmer teams in some late PvE areas of the game (SF, NUW, UW, FoW). Knowing what the area features really helps to plan ahead and bring strong builds.
This forum as well as others have great information on how the mesmer class does it.
Playing the mesmer primary to UAS is an interesting idea, albeit it won't be as easy as a Monk UAS.
