I have the find old macs body quest .. i hit L and choose the quest. leave town. run to where his dead body is at i have to fight some (char i think) and all that is left is Macs pet, and macs dead body. i click on his body, as i am running away (back to town), i notice the green arrow is pointing me back towards his body. so i run back there, but there is no body?
what am I supposed to do to finish this quest?

Leave and come back. Once an NPC has died, they're dead until you exit the map and allow them to respawn.
404notfound
Although it says to find Old Mac's body, you are actually supposed to save him while he is still alive and return him to Piken Square. This is actually a very hard and annoying quest to complete if you don't have a PC monk, because usually by the time you get to him, he's near dead if not already rotting on the ground.
Xavier
Although the quest giver asks you to find the body, You can't finish this quest unless you save Old Mac from getting killed by the Charr. So if he gets killed you have do as the poster above says and exit and re-enter so that he will respawn and you can save him.
Edit: Yes like 404 says it a pain in the rump, but since I am a Wa/Mo I was able to keep healing the old fool until I could kill the Charr. Also I think his pet "Joe" may need to survive also.

ahhhhh i c
now with a ranger/warrior this might be a trick. although i usually run with the healer npc, but not sure if that is going to be good enough. since the healer will usually only heal me, during the battle and the non party members after the battle.
