Ascalon Treasure Chest
Unseen Hero
I went exploring and found a Ascalon Treasure chest or something like that so I tried to open it and found out you needed a key.....so I went and got the key then went back and it was gone....so are these treasure chest random...do they just appear sometimes and not others or what??
Arknow
they can spawn in "random areas"
Unseen Hero

now it make me wonder what was in the first one I found but couldn't open...well no use dwellin in past events...guess I will go look around some more

Haggard
each area has its own set of chests, for example krytan chests in kryta, maguuma chests in the maguuma jungle, and you need a corresponding key to open it. They can spawn anywhere, but usually around a set area
Eldin
Mind that usually the chests' loot is worth less than how much you spend on the key. I reccomend only going for chests if you buy the keys extra cheap, get the keys off enemy drops, or just want to gamble and try your luck. The most practical keys that often yield items more valuable than the keys' cost are Obsidian Keys (FoW) and Phantom Keys (UW/new UW).
Ascalonian Key - Ascalonian Chest
Steel Key - Steel Chest
Krytan Key - Krytan Chest
Maguuma Key - Maguuma Chest
Elonian Key - Elonian Chest
Shiverpeak Key - Shiverpeak Chest
Miner's Key - Miner's Chest
Darkstone Key - Darkstone Chest
Phantom Key - Phantom Chest
Obsidian Key - Obsidian Chest
Basically the keys match up with their self-explanatory-named chest counterparts. Shouldn't be too hard to remember that.
