Search disabled/google search is crap on forums. So don't get angry if I am reposting something because this just came to my mind.
Beastermastery, is probably one of the most useless and unfun builds in the game. You shout to your pet (like he knows english) to attack...just exactly like pokemon or something insanely dull like that. So instead of standing there getting beat around YOU ACTUALLY RIDE OR SIT ON YOUR PET! You may have seen in the shiverpeaks the dwarves sitting ontop of those big monsters giving commands to their animals while they beat the crap out of you. Wouldnt you want a dragon to ride on while attacking someone?

No, because everyone would be doing it. There would be too many beast-riders cluttering the game.

What about out of town?

Heh, yeah. I want my 6'11" Ranger mounting his cat-sized Dune Lizard like a nobel steed.
Someone's been playing too much WoW.

I don't see why not, at least it might make some of the w/mos change into rangers =P

Pets often are forced into battle without armor or protection. I have builds where I often use the interrupt skill for the pet and give it some protections skills they are like having an extra warrior also when the enemy concentrates on attacking your pet it just gives you more time to kill the enemy.
I say take all the armor off your warrior or whatever it is you have and go out and fight. See how long you last...
Wish they'd combine the comfort animal skill with the charm animal skill that way you'd only have to equip one not two I think that hurts more than anything and let you find or buy armor for your pet. Nothing like a leather helm for a hog or some chest gear for a bear!

Some people enjoy playing Beastmasters, Moofin. A build designed around the pet's weaknesses and accentuating its strengths can be quite effective. Try taking Tiger's Fury and Call of Haste alongside a few choice Pet attacks, such as Disrupting Lunge and Ferocious Strike, and give yourself a Conjure Element to increase your baseline bow damage, and you are a one-man doubleteam.
That and Guild Wars cannot tolerate mounted characters. The game is too carefully balanced for foot combat to enable the use of player-controlled mounted characters, no matter how well they're designed. The dual-profession system kills any chance of incorporating mounted warriors into combat. Travel, perhaps, but then you'd likely be unable to use skills.
So yeah. Think before you female dog at Anet :-P

I have nothing against mount... but I just don't see how you would want to ride a pet. A Pet != a Mount. Riding on a desert lizard would not only look funny, but crush the poor thing. Think about it, when was the last time you ride on your pet dog or kitty?
Undivine
I don't think it will ever happen. Putting aside that it might be a bit silly, I highly doubt the could put it in even if they wanted to. Guild Wars has no Z axis. The reason you cannot take a character and perch them on top of another character is the same reason why you cannot jump, fly, or swim. Characters cannot move vertically unless they are firmly on the ground.
They can fake it in some ways. The /jump emote isn't recognised as actually jumping in the game's engine, it's just an animation. The character model is still technically on the ground. The beastmaster dwarves are not actually a character perched on top of a beast. To the game's engine those two creatures are one single creature.
It's not going to happen. Besides the fact that all the skills and animations were made with the assumption that their characters are on foot, it isn't technically possible anyway.

The z-axis is how arrows work isn't it? so i think they do have it, but it would lag it like nuts and of course, maintenance on the system would bring about a fee i'm pretty sure...
Anyway, rumors are that beastmasters are getting whips.

Those rumors are really really really old and fake.
I doubt the z-axis is used for arrow flight calculation, it'd cause way too much lag to physically simulate the path of the arrow. This seems even more likely as I shoot into a hillside and watch the arrow land higher up than it would have if it had actually been aimed at the target without any obstructions.

You need to be a Beastmaster not a wannabe to see the power of a pet.

Beastmaster builds are fun, I don't know where he got that, but useless can be debated.
One of the problems for pure BM builds is that you're a sitting duck while clicking attacks.

...besides, most 1v1 arguments are useless.

A r/me running 4 pet attack skills, charm, comform, signet of midnight, and troll unguent can stay alive in any 1v1 situation indefinately. It's a fun build for random arena, my pet spider "fur ball" can total destroy anyone trying to run away while I spam attacks clear across the map. Or, you can use the same set up with 3 pet attack skills and replace the 4th one with poison arrow while using a long bow. You can even do a nice variation of this build using 2 pet attack skills and 2 traps. There are lots of possibilities, and the recent buffs help out.
Riding a pet would be fun, but it's probably not gonna happen as the other posters said.

A buffed pet can do amazing damage! And keeps the mobs off of you. Try going out with a party where everyone has a pet, which are buffed. Truly awesome!!!

I do like the idea of mounts, but as pointed out, it would not work for all.
Of course, it would have to be purely cosmetic, though. Balance/advantage issues and whatnot.

Heh why do tyou think their are so many thumpers running around?
Why do you think preassure builds use melee rangers rather then warriors (well the better ones seem too)?
