Questionable Ethics: WTT Preview Key?
anomalous_tls
Hello GWG'ers.
Although I spend a lot of time reading them, I haven't made many posts on these forums, so I'll keep the formalities brief.
I've been playing Guild Wars since December last year and have recently bought the pre-order Factions package (with the spare preview weekend key).
I've been pondering the legality/morality of trading the key for in-game worth. I'd assume there are people out there without a key, but with the time, means and desire to hook up a caffine drip, whack on the robe and wizard's hat and play as much of the preview weekend as is humanly possible.
What'll probably end happening is the key will go to a guildy who'll play it for a mere 2 or 3 hours, then stop and do real life stuff.
For the purposes of comparison, exclude the noble option of giving it away to someone who both wants and will appreciate it. Which do you think is the bigger crime; trading it to someone who'll appreciate it or letting it basically go to waste for no cost?
I look forward to hearing your opinions.
Cheers,
Anom

I would consider this along the same lines as ticket scalping.
You have an extra ticket and its closer to game time more people want it.

Unless A-net specifically says you can't trade keys, I don't really see why not, as you're not trading for anything with "real monetary value".

AFAIK every Prophecy account gets 5 invites to the beta weekend, therefore you won`t be able to "sell" your BWE key.

Wait, so.. If I don't buy a pre-order key I can't test Factions on the March 24 weekend? ...

What have I to look forward to this week during school?

Existing accounts get access to Factions event. (+ have 3 available invites to giveout/use)
But anet isnt going to give an extra slot to try it out. You have to use one of your existing slots to make a test charac for the event.
So, if you are full, you can send yourself an invite to make a new account w/ 4 slots. (but this will not be linked to your existing account whats so ever.)

This sounds iffy as is, but how could you even do something like this? Anyone who owns guild wars has access to the beta weekend event. The only people that can give you in game items for a key to gain access to the beta weekend event, are people that have a guild wars account to give you those items with, which in turn makes them already able to play in the beta weekend event. If you did manage to sell your key for in game items, it would be a complete scam. Because you're selling someone something they already have. If they need a key for a friend, and they've already used their 3 keys, there have already been about a bajillion offers on this thread to give out extra invites if anyone needs em. Also anyone could ask their guildies if they have an extra invite.

Looking to scam the population of GW? No sir.
Ignorant of the fact that Prophecies comes default with 3 keys to the preview weekend? Absolutely!!
A ‘minor’ detail that I was not aware of, I thought that access to the Factions preview came only with the pre-order package. So, it appears the only questionable matter is that of my research skills.
Thanks for the replies all, see you on the weekend.
